After the ceremony, it was time for the newlyweds to toast.
Charlotte changed into a toasting dress.
“Congratulations, Mr. Oconnor, finally winning the beauty,” Jamir said sarcastically, raising his glass with a face that showed more joy than anything else.
Nelson looked at him without anger and clinked glasses with him. “Thank you.”
Jamir glanced deeply at Charlotte. “And congratulations to Miss Ellison…” He paused, “Now Mrs. Oconnor, congratulations on getting what you wished for.”
Charlotte kept a proper smile, but her palms were sweaty. Only she knew the malice hidden behind this man’s smiling face.
“And I wish you can also get what you wish for.”
The subtle exchange of glances was only understood by the two of them.
Tobias watched from the corner, his hand unconsciously pressing on the table, gritting his teeth. “I knew when Callie married him that this man couldn’t be trusted!”
He was too conspicuous and too cunning. Even Charlotte, standing beside him now, might not be able to handle him.
Mollie appeared calm, absentmindedly turning her wine glass. “Tobias, did Callie ever tell you why she brought the plastic surgeon here?”
Tobias was taken aback. “She only asked me to do this, without explaining why.”
Now that Callie was missing, he had no way of knowing the reason.
“Do you have any news about Callie? I’m very worried about her. She doesn’t have many trustworthy people in Ylosea,” Tobias said anxiously.
Mollie ignored the persistent burning gaze and deliberately leaned closer to Tobias, whispering in his ear, “I don’t know either.”
Tobias felt his ear heat up, surprised.
Mollie sat back as if nothing had happened. “Let’s wait and see.”
Meanwhile, Nelson and Charlotte reached the table seated by the Ellison family. The elders showered them with compliments and blessings until it was Maxwell’s turn.
He stood up slowly. “Nelson, it’s been many years since we last met.”
Nelson frowned slightly, scrutinizing the man for a few seconds before recognizing him. “Maxwell, you’re back.”
Maxwell had left the country after Maevelyn went missing, and it had been over a decade since then. Now he was back.
Maxwell nodded with satisfaction and then looked at Charlotte, who appeared surprised. “Maeve, it’s understandable if Nelson doesn’t remember me, but how could you forget? I used to take you out to play often when you were little.”
This man had appeared suddenly, and no one had mentioned him to Charlotte. Judging by Nelson’s reaction, he seemed to be an important figure. She hesitated briefly before smiling and saying, “Uncle, long time no see.”
Maxwell’s eyes followed her expressions closely, trying to find any clues.
He smiled back. “It’s good to have you back. During the years you were missing, I was very worried about you.”
Charlotte was struggling to respond when a waiter approached and whispered in her ear, “Can we play the video now?”
She felt relieved and gave a few instructions. “Go ahead.”
The wedding had reached the dining stage, and according to the schedule, a documentary of the couple would be played at this time.
Nelson was unaware, but Charlotte had spent the past month collecting many photos of them from the media and meticulously created a video to show her dedication.
Soon, soothing background music filled the venue as Charlotte’s video appeared on the big screen. At that moment, Anthony called Nelson aside, citing a business matter that needed attention.
