Adam Wilson
I woke up to the sound of someone knocking on my door.
“Who is it?” I managed to get out under my raspy morning voice.
“It’s me.” I heard Sophia say meekly from the other side and I quickly straightened up.
I was awake and fully alert at the sound of her voice.
“Come in.” I said. I quickly ran my hand across my face and in my hair, trying to look normal.
The door opened slightly and Sophia peeked inside the room.
“Uhm, good morning.” She said.
“Good morning Sophia.” I smiled at her.
She looked at me for a long time before she cleared her throat. Her cheeks turned rose, it was the cutest thing ever.
“We’re having breakfast in a few minutes and we don’t want you to miss out.” She said.
I only then became aware of the smell of bacon and sausages. My stomach growled in response.
“Thank you, I’ll be right there.”
“Okay.” She said and closed the door immediately.
Wow.
We’ve only interacted a little since I’ve been in her house. All the time in the presence of her parents. This was the first time it was just us, but it was only brief. She’s really an expert at avoiding me, even when we’re under the same roof.
There are so many things I want to say to her, many things we need to talk about. It’s killing me but I need to wait for the right moment.
I got up, did a quick routine in the bathroom and dressed up.
When I got to the table everyone had started with their plate.
“Good morning Adam!” “Sleep well?” Her parents greeted me excitedly. Sophia on the other hand stayed silent and didn’t even look up, which made me slightly upset.
Why won’t she even look at me?!
“Good morning. I slept like a baby.” I said, trying to mask my feelings.
Apparently, I’m always doing something wrong to her. But what could I possibly have done to her now?
Was me being here a burden to her?
“We have a table-full of food just like yesterday, all thanks to Sophia. She’s responsible for all this. Have a seat!” Her mum encouraged.
“Thank you once again Sophia. I feel spoiled.” I joked before I took a seat right next to her on the table.
They laughed, except her. She froze, even stopped chewing, all because I sat beside her. She moved slightly away from me so we weren’t too close. She tried to be discreet but I noticed her movement.
Fuck, that just pissed me off. I seriously wanted to grab her, throw her on my lap and confront her on why she’s avoiding the hell out of me! And if the reason did not make sense then I might just lose control and fuck…
“Would you like to see the city today Adam?” Her dad asked, diverting my mind back.
“Of course, why not.” I agreed.
“Brilliant, then I can get to show you the security and armoured car company we discussed earlier.”
I was highly interested in that later but I was more interested in Sophia right now.
“Will Sophia be coming with us?” I hoped.
“She has plans today so she can’t join us.”
“Okay. What are your plans for today?” I asked her directly. I desperately wanted to talk to her, even if it was just small conversations.
“I’m going to run some errands. Excuse me.” She pushed her chair back, got up and left.
Standard.
“Don’t worry, you’re gonna love the city.” Her dad said.
*
It was a pretty good city, the outing was favourable and I managed to snag Brink’s company as a client.
The only bad thing was that we spent the whole day and we got back home so late that I didn’t get time to spend with Sophia.
I had no idea what she did all day. I didn’t get the chance to see her again after she left the dining so abruptly this morning.
It was currently 11pm and they were certainly asleep.
“Go ahead and rest, tomorrow’s another day.” Bruce said. Her dad and I had gotten so close that we were on first name basis now.
“What about Sophia? Is she asleep or…”
“Don’t worry about her. She’s definitely gone to bed. She sleeps early.”
“Oh, okay.” I hid my disappointment.
“You’re always concerned about my daughter.” He suspected.
“Of course, I just want to know if she’s okay.” I smiled.
“Okay…”
“See you tomorrow Bruce, have a good night!”
“You too. Later Adam.” He went up the stairs.
My room was on the ground floor so I didn’t have to go up the stairs.
Ugh! Things were moving way too slow for my liking. I needed to speak to this woman or I might lose my head. I’ll be back in New York in less than 48 hours and I haven’t had the chance to sort things out.
I went to my room and took off my clothes before collapsing on the bed. I tried to sleep but I couldn’t. I was restless, thinking about her and what I could’ve possibly done that made her switch up on me.
No ideas came to mind.
I knew I wasn’t going to sleep easy this night so I went to the kitchen to get something to drink.
****
Sophia Parker
I turned for the 100th time on my bed that night. I couldn’t get any sleep knowing that he was right underneath me.
I heard them both come in about an hour ago and my dad went to his room.
This was the only alone time I could have with him after being out all day, but it was too late! It would be best for us to talk during the day.
I rolled myself up in my duvet and tried to catch some sleep but it didn’t work. Instead I was thinking about whether or not he would be asleep by now.
Why do I even care about that?
I forced my eyes closed but nothing worked so I decided to drink something from the kitchen downstairs.
I got up from the bed and pulled down my nightdress. It was short and somewhat inappropriate so I wore the matching robe above it and tied the knot securely.
I chucked my feet into my furry flip flops then came out of my room.
Once I reached the top of the stairs, I saw that the lights downstairs were still on which meant someone was awake.
I tiptoed down each step to check, luckily our stairs don’t creak because it’s not wooden. I got to the bottom and hid behind the wall before I peeped into the kitchen.
He was there.
What is he still doing awake?
He stood by the sink shirtless, wearing just trousers. I think he was making something to drink. I couldn’t see because he had his back turned to me.
I watch his body move as he stirred whatever it was that he was drinking. He lifted it to his lips and swallowed it with one go. His back muscles flexed so beautifully, my own body heated up from watching him.
He rinsed the cup before putting it back. Then he set his hands on the counter and did nothing. I watched him for a few seconds before feeling like a spy.
This is definitely creepy and I should go back upstairs.
But I couldn’t bring myself to turn around. He was so intriguing.
“Are you gonna stand there all night Sophia?” He asked and I froze.
Busted.
I wish the ground could swallow me right now. I was so mortified.
How did he see me when he didn’t even look back?
“How did you notice me?” I asked.
“Your shadow’s right there.” He pointed at it.
So stupid! I was so busy looking at him that I hadn’t noticed it myself. There was no point in hiding anymore so I entered the kitchen.
“Your dad said you were asleep. Why are you up?” He asked.
“Why are YOU up?” I countered.
“I can’t sleep.”
“Mmm, me too.” I said and went to the fridge. I poured myself a cold glass of water and drank it. It made me feel a lot better.
I looked at Mr Wilson briefly and saw him frowning at me with his arms crossed.
I carried on with what I was doing before I was grabbed so suddenly that I almost screamed.
“Hey!” The cup fell out of my hand and it broke.
He gripped my arms and shook me lightly.
“Do you want to kill me?!” He said angrily.
What on earth is he talking about?
“What is wrong with you?! Why would you say I want to kill you? Have you lost your mind?!”
Seriously! What have I done to make him think that I want to ‘kill’ him?
He didn’t listen to me, instead he dragged me by my arm.
“What are you doing?! Let go of me!” My arm stung lightly from his assault.
He pulled me all the way into the guest room before he finally let me go and slammed the door shut. I was terrified. The look on his face was deadly, like a hunter about to pounce on his prey.
“I will not let you drive me crazy. Now get on the bed.”
“No!” I said even though my heart slammed into my throat in anticipation.
I’m so used to rejecting this man but deep down I really want him. My body wished to respond to his command so badly and If I didn’t have a brain, I would’ve jumped on the bed instantly.
“Stop your foolish hard-to-get games and get on the fucking bed.” He warned.
“How dare you speak to me like that?!” I feigned anger meanwhile, I was excited as hell.
Without warning, he picked me up and tossed me onto the bed. I shrieked. He was on top of me in the next second and he pinned my hands above my head.
“This is what you want, isn’t it? This is the real reason why you’re here!”
“Yes Sophia. You’re the number one reason why I’m here.” He admitted. “And you can’t deny that you don’t want me to be here too. You couldn’t sleep because of me. Isn’t that why you were spying?”
