Elena’s POV.
We all swiftly turned around to see him standing a few feet away from us.
Aragorn.
He had a glass of wine in his hand and a smug smile on his face as his gaze carefully traveled from each one of us to the other.
Now being aware of his evil feats, he irritated me more than he ever did.
“You!” Killian gritted angrily, he made to rush at him but I was quick enough to hold him back. “We don’t need this right now, Killian,” I whispered.
“And it’s certainly a pleasure to see you again, my little love-struck Elena,” he croaked out a totally ugly laughter. I was nearly pushed to puke by merely hearing him mention my name.
“You know I saw so much potential in you, I hoped to take you under my wing when you have upheld this mission, imagine my disappointment seeing you fail woefully,”
“That’s rich coming from a failure himself,” I fired back at him.
He chuckled amusedly and turned towards Darius. “Oh and there goes the estranged sidelined lover, now tell me why you are helping them prevent a course that would do nothing but benefit you?”
“That’s enough, none of us are here for your petty pep talk, release my kids to me and we’ll be on our way out of here, that’s of course if you want to do this the easy way,” Killian growled at him.
Surprisingly, he roared into an uncontrollable fit of laughter. I really can’t wait to watch as his laughter will be ultimately replaced by horror.
“And the savior of the day is in my territory, the mighty Alpha Killian in flesh, tell me, to what do I owe this pleasurable visit?”
“You really don’t learn, do you?” Killian spat. “You know this isn’t the best way to appreciate someone who spared your life when he should have driven a dagger through your ugly heart,”
“Maybe you should have done that, but why didn’t you? That’s because you didn’t exactly spare my life out of your self acclaimed generosity, you wanted me to live with the guilt of watching my pack reduced to dust without doing anything to save them,” his voice was beginning to break as he spoke but he quickly straightened up and replaced the sad look on his face with a sly smirk.
“Now look who’s getting paid in his own coin huh?” He chuckled.
“Definitely not me right? I mean you lack the ability to do that,” Killian fired back at him.
“Oh, that is what you think?” He raised his brows in amusement.
“That is definitely what I know, I came into your pack myself and took away everything that belonged to you, but what did you do in your little attempt of revenge? Sending my mate to take my life? You were too scared to show your face to me, now that isn’t exactly the way to pay me back in my own coin is it?” Killian laughed out heartily as he threw degrading words at Aragorn who was beginning to boil in anger now.
“I have what belongs to you!” He growled.
“Oh, and you definitely do not know yours that I have,” Killian chuckled. “Do you know how long I have been here? The information I have gathered and the ones that I have within my grasp?”
“You spew nonsense because you want to trick me into releasing your kids, try harder,”
“Oh, and by the way, why go through all the trouble coming here when you don’t know the condition of your children? I mean they could be alive and they could also be long dead,”
My heart skipped drastically as his words hit me hard across the ear.
“Do you know how ridiculous you sound right now?” Killian chuckled.
How on earth was he actively engaging Aragorn despite the bomb he just dropped?
“What have you done to my children you sick bastard!” I yelled, tears threatening to burst through my eyes. I can’t lose them. Hero and Athena. We’ve come this far to rescue them and I am not leaving without them safely in my arms.
“Don’t fret Elena, he’s trying to get to your head,” Killian turned towards me with a reassuring look but that did little or nothing to calm my rapidly speeding heart. Aragorn might not be so powerful but he is corny, and since I breached our deal, he’ll definitely find a way to get back at me.
This is exactly what I was avoiding.
“Aragorn this is game over, just hand over the kids and we’ll leave without a struggle, I know you haven’t done anything to them,” Darius suddenly spoke for the first time since we got here.
“Is that really what you want huh?” Aragorn raised his brows at him in a knowing manner.
I turned swiftly towards Darius to see him secretly giving Aragorn some sort of hidden signals through his eyes while Aragorn continued to laugh hysterically.
What’s going on between these two?
“Okay, that’s enough chit chat Aragorn, I’m sure you’re glad I made your day colorful with my presence, now to avoid ruining that, hand over my children or things will get really messy,” Killian growled, I could tell his anger was beginning to rise incredibly seeing the color of his eyes slowly began to change.
That was the last thing I wanted, any form of violence would definitely jeopardize the life of my kids.
But right now, Killian was too angry to think about that, and that seemed to be Aragorn’s second plan.
At this point, only a miracle can see me through this community with my kids and it seemed almost impossible.
Suddenly, there were fast approaching footsteps towards us and upon turning around, surprisingly it was Greene. The look on his face was soothing and it indicated that he had taken care of things on his own end.
“Sorted, Alpha,” he nodded at Killian who in turn, shifted his gaze towards Aragorn with a victorious smile on his face.
“Well, I guess your little mate and child will have to suffer the faith you made mine suffer too,”
