Killian’s POV.
I felt my heart begin to painfully rip apart as his words hit me hard across the ear.
True to his words, the cut at Elena’s back had somehow reopened and was oozing droplets of blood nonstop.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I watched her heart thump heavily, it was obvious she was trying to fight it, but the pain was overwhelming her.
“Well, what could be the cause of it?” My voice was laced with a severe string of bitterness and frustration as I spoke.
“Like I said, you shouldn’t have let her leave the ward, she has stressed out the wound and it’s taking a toll on her,” she replied.
I couldn’t hold back the loud hiss that escaped my mouth. It was all my fault. If only I had set my anger aside and let her recover fully before confronting her, this wouldn’t have happened.
I won’t forgive myself if anything happens to her.
“Well, don’t stand there doing nothing, there must be something you can do, and fast too,” I yelled.
“This is the best that I can do,” she said, walking over to the counter and grabbed a lube. “The blade she was stabbed with was ladled with some sort of poison that aims to kill faster, but this is going to prevent that.”
I watched as she carefully applied the ointment to her wounded back.
“But this isn’t enough, if we rely only on it, we might lose her, I can feel her heartbeat fading away.” My heart nearly jumped out of my chest as her words hit me hard.
No, I can’t lose Elena. My life is nothing without her.
“There’s one more thing we can try, it’s not a guarantee but it’s worth the shot,”
That was the only thing that I needed to hear at the moment. That there was a possibility of reviving Elena, no matter how slim the chances were. I was willing to give it a million shots.
“Whatever it is, just make sure she opens her eyes again please?” I mumbled, trying so hard to hold back my tears but my strength was failing me.
“No, you’ll have to do this, you might be able to heal her, maybe all she needs is your warmth to revive her,” she replied.
“How is that possible?” The question left my mouth like a whisper.
“You will have to give it a try to know how possible it is,” she replied.
I didn’t hesitate or waste any more seconds. Quickly, I sat beside her on the bed, picking her up into my arms, holding her tightly against my body as if I was afraid she’d vanish if my grip loosened.
Just then, I felt it. Her faint heartbeat, ticking slowly like a minute timer.
I felt a wave of joy surge through me, knowing that at least, she was still alive.
My hands roamed every part of her body, stroking passionately and slowly, lowered my lips to hers.
My lips moved gently against hers for a moment, before carefully breathing deeply into her.
The more I breathed into her, the more pronounced her heartbeat became, I could feel her heart entangled with mine as her lips suddenly moved slowly against mine.
It was truly working, I was overjoyed. At this point, I was least concerned if I had any breath left in me, my major focus was to revive my pretty little mate.
I held her tighter, feeling her softness, her warmth, and scent as I continued to effortlessly empty my entire breath into her, I was beginning to feel her skin become alive and warm.
Slowly, I climbed completely on the bed and laid down, pulling her to lay on my body, while I cuddled her gently.
A small smile broke out on my face as I noticed her body relax into mine, as she snuggled closer to my body.
I was tempted to scream out in excitement as I watched her move unconsciously but I was strong enough to hold myself back.
“I’m here love, I’m not going anywhere, I’ve got you,” I whispered into her ears as I stroked her arms softly.
I raised my head up from the bed and signaled the healer to leave the ward.
Gradually, my eyes squeezed shut as a heavy wave of peace and satisfaction washed over me, I could feel myself being stolen away by a strong wave of sleep with Elena secured perfectly in my arms.
*
“Killian?”
I quickly snapped my eyes open as I heard her weak voice call out to me.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” I whispered, stroking her cheeks gently.
She stared at me blankly without saying a word.
“It’s okay, I’m here, you are safe,” I flashed her a warm smile, pulling her deeper into my body. I could feel her heart beating rapidly.
“What happened?” She finally managed to mutter.
“The healer said it was due to some sort of poison from the knife stab, and you stressed the wound too, you shouldn’t have left the bed,” I replied.
“I didn’t have a choice, you were going to kill Darius,” she mumbled.
I felt my heart tighten as she mentioned the asshole’s name. “You care about him that much,” I found myself saying.
“He saved my life, I owe him my gratitude,” she replied.
“Killian, I love you, not him, you are the one I love, and I will keep saying it till my last breath,” her next words washed through my body like an electric spark, sending shivers down my spine.
I leaned down and captured her lips in mine in a slow, passionate kiss.
We broke the kiss after a short while and I kissed her forehead softly. “I love you more than you can ever imagine Elena,” I whispered into her ears.
A small smile spread out on her face as she snuggled deeper into my arms.
“Rest your mind love, I have the situation under control,” those were my words to her as she slowly drifted back to sleep.
I held her carefully in my arms through the night, watching over her like a caring father.
I didn’t sleep a wink, neither did I leave her side for a second.
