Elena’s POV.
I laid on the bed, with a blank expression as I watched Killian dressed up to leave. I couldn’t possibly let him see through my expression how sad I was that he was leaving.
Straightening his shirt one last time, he leaned over to sit beside me on the bed. “I can cancel every pack activity for the rest of the day just to stay back here with you.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his vulnerability, I wasn’t surprised, Killian has always been like that towards me, though not after the night of our mating ceremony.
“You can’t, Killian, you have a lot of things to attend to.” I tried to put a smile on my face despite the emptiness that I feel at the pit of my stomach.
“None of that is as important as you are.” He groaned.
Oh Killian, how do I hate you when you keep being so amazing?
“I’m sure they are.” I chuckled. “Oh and speaking of that, what happened to the dead wolves? Have you been able to unravel the cause of their death?”
He nodded negatively, a deep frown making its way to his face. “Not yet, but I do have my suspicions.”
My heartbeat accelerated immediately the words left his mouth. “Killian.. No, it has nothing to do with me, I swear… I didn’t…”
He quickly wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into a tight hug. “Don’t say that again, of course, it has nothing to do with you,” he whispered.
I let out a deep breath I didn’t even realize I was holding. For a moment, I thought I had been discovered.
“Uhm… Who are you suspecting then?” I asked, trying to dig in more to the situation, I needed to be fully aware of everything to ensure my safety.
“It’s a Lycan actually, Aragorn.” I felt my heartbeat increase drastically again as he mentioned Aragorn.
“I’m not sure of it yet, but I have my nose on ground to be totally certain,” he added.
“Oh… Uhm… Why do you think he’s behind this though?”I asked.
He shrugged slightly and scoffed. “I left him in a really bad shape the last time we had a feud, he could be trying to get back at me,”
“Well, are you going to do anything about it?” I pressed further.
He pressed his lips together and shook his head slightly. “Not yet, I need to be certain he’s behind this.”
I was resisting the urge to confirm to him that his instincts were right, I wanted to scream out and plead with him to launch an attack on Aragorn already, I wanted to scream out for help from him. Right now, if I wanted a way out of this. Killian could be that way.
But then, for some reason, I couldn’t, not when Aragorn was watching me closely like a hawk, he’d definitely discover I ratted him out and it’d be the last time I would set my eyes on my kids.
I wasn’t ready to risk that, and so, needed to thread carefully.
“If this Aragorn was overpowered in a feud between you two the last time, don’t you think this is him trying to strike back?” I raised my brows at him, I was trying so hard to give him a hint hoping that somehow he’d catch it.
“Do not worry your pretty head over it, Love, I have it under control,” he pulled me deeper into his arms and sniffed my hair. “Be sure that I will rip out his heart when I finally get my hands on him, and the same goes for anyone who’s with him on this.”
My body suddenly went cold as his last words filtered into my ears, does this mean that he’d rip out my heart too if he found out about my involvement in this?
I certainly do not like where this is going.
“Anyways, I don’t think you are safe here anymore, whoever attacked you last night might return again,” he suddenly blurted.
“Oh… Uhm… I’m totally okay Killian, I’m sure whoever pulled that won’t strike back again, not with what happened to the last one,” I mumbled, my voice barely audible. I was still shaken by his outburst.
Would he still be this protective of me once he finds out about my mission here? Would his feelings still be intact?
It probably doesn’t even matter anymore, since I won’t be here until that happens.
“I won’t sit back and let it happen again, therefore, you are moving into the palace,” I quickly shrugged away from his arms and turned to look at him. “What did you just say?”
“I’m moving you into the palace, there’s an unmatched security around and also, it is exactly where you belong,” he replied.
As spicy as the offer sounded, I couldn’t take it. Things were already going miserable for me, the last thing I wanted was to get comfortable.
“I can’t, I’m sorry,” I mumbled, standing up from the bed.
“But why?” I could feel the sadness in his voice.
“You are wrong Killian, I don’t belong there, I’m your ex-mate, your Luna, Aria, is there already and that is where she belongs,” I replied.
He quickly climbed down the bed and came to stand behind me, slowly, his hands crawled around my waist and pulled me into his body, his breath caressing my neck.
“Aria is no Luna to me, you are the only woman in my life and it will always remain that way,” he whispered, his hands stroking my waist soothingly.
“It’s only you Elena, it’s always going to be you, please allow me to make things right,”
My chest heaved heavily, as my breath began to quiver, his hands on my waist and his breath on the skin of my neck was way too intoxicating for me to handle.
“Do you want me to carry you there right now? The guards will deliver the rest of your things afterward,” he suggested.
“What? No!” I bursted into laughter.
“Maybe I’ll accept the offer if you give me till evening to get my things ready,” I said.
“Please, take all your time!” He squealed happily, turning me around, and wrapped his arms around me in a tight hug.
