Elena’s POV.
For a moment, I stood frozen on the spot as his lips moved swiftly over mine.
I was caught particularly off-guard by his sudden action. That was the last thing I had expected from him.
Despite having made up my mind to manage my emotions and avoid any more attachment with Killian, I couldn’t help myself. My body was yet again betraying me.
I wanted to pull away from the kiss, push him far away from me, and scream for him to leave. But instead, I did the unimaginable. My hands slowly reached over to grab his hair, running my fingers through it, and pulled him closer, deepening the kiss.
I couldn’t resist him, even if I wanted to.
How could I have imagined that I would be able to carry out this mission? When just merely being close to him set my body on fire.
How could I drive a dagger through the same heart that I cherished so much?
How did I even think that I would be able to resist my feelings for this man? His charms and pulls worked like magic on me. He literally didn’t need to make any effort to make me fall more helplessly in love with him. I came to the realization that Killian alone held my heart and even I, didn’t have the power to take it back from him. It solely belonged to him.
I shivered in ecstasy as his hands wandered around my waist and upper back, caressing gently as his lips continued to move softly around mine, our movement getting a bit faster and rougher now.
At that moment, everything else seemed to fade away and I leaned into his arms some more, my heart and every other part of me yearned for his touch, and the burning sensation of his skin against mine.
Suddenly, a loud crashing noise sounded from inside my house.
We pulled away from each other immediately. My heart was racing hard within my chest knowing that it was no other than Darius. Has he caught Killian and I kissing?
“Uhm… I think you should go now Killian, I promise you I’m okay, and just to prove that, I will come over to the pack house to pay you a visit.” I stuttered feverishly, trying all possible means to push him off before he discovered Darius.
“That’s nice,” he smiled happily. “But there’s a crash from your room.”
“It’s… It’s nothing.” I tried to appear as neutral as possible.
“Elena, I heard a disturbing sound from your room, let me check it out.” He made to walk past me and head into the house but I was quick enough to block his way.
“Killian, I already told you it’s nothing, I was rearranging pieces of furniture before you came, it must have fallen off due to bad placement,” I lied, hoping fervently that he would be convinced but Killian wasn’t having it. He didn’t look a bit moved.
“And why would you move furnitures by yourself? Why didn’t you come to me about it? I don’t want you to lift a finger, Elena,” he growled, concern written all over him.
I couldn’t hold back my smile. It was evident in all essence that Killian has come to love me more than he loved himself, he was willing to do anything for my happiness.
How could I ever stay away from this man? How could I carry on with the mission with the abundance of love that he has been showing me?
“I really appreciate that Killian, thank you.” I managed to mutter.
“Step aside, let me check it out for you.” He made to push past me.
I hesitated, standing firmly at the doorstep, fear gripping me. I couldn’t even imagine the blurriest picture of a confrontation between Darius and Killian, which is definitely going to wrap up with one of them being dead.
“I can take care of it.” My voice was beginning to quiver now.
“Alpha!” We suddenly heard a voice call from behind.
We turned to see the lead warrior running towards us.
I heaved out a deep breath that I never knew I was holding, that was such an epic save.
“Graham? What brings you here?” Killian raised his brows at him.
“I’m sorry to interrupt but your presence is needed immediately.” He panted heavily.
“By who? And what’s the reason?” Killian asked. He was obviously pissed by the interruption.
“It’s a terrible news. We just found three dead bodies at the pack boundary, I think we are under attack.” Graham blurted and my heart did a triple beat.
What could be going on?
I couldn’t stop wondering if it had anything to do with my mission here.
I watched as a deep anger flickered through Killian’s eyes.
He turned around to face me, reaching out, and grabbed my cheeks with both hands. “Go in and make sure all doors are locked, I think someone is trying to play with me and it might not be funny, don’t come out until I come to you okay?”
I nodded frantically, tears welling up in my eyes as I beheld the bundle of affection and concern laced in his eyes for me.
He leaned forward and placed a warm kiss on my forehead before turning around and walked away with Graham.
I took a deep breath and prepared for yet another confrontation with Darius who is probably boiling in rage right now.
As I stepped into the house, I was met with the blaring gaze of Darius.
Of course I expected that.
“Really Elena?”
“I’m sorry,” I muttered trying to avoid his gaze.
“For what exactly? Frolicking with Killian and risking the life of your kids, or betraying what we share?”
My heart broke as I watched him lament bitterly with a sad look on his face. Darius has really done a lot for me to be treated this way.
I breathed in deeply, preparing myself for the next words that came out of my mouth, despite how hard it was to get through my throat.
“I did that only to gain his trust, then I can strike him easily and it’s working already, Killian is such a gullible fool.”
