Elena’s POV.
I quickly struggled out of his arms and climbed down the bed, my hands moving in swift motions to grab every piece of my clothing, scattered around.
“Are you okay Elena? What’s wrong?” Confusion laced in his voice as he gazed at me worriedly.
I ignored him and went ahead to put my clothes on, tears trickling down my cheeks.
He quickly climbed down the bed and reached out to grab my hands and pulled me into his arms. For a moment, I felt safe encaged in the warmth of his arms but I couldn’t let it last more than a second before pushing him away from him. I was in this situation in the first place because I let my guard down. It was time to do something to save myself.
“Killian, don’t come any closer,” I growled, blocking him away with a wave of my hand in the air. Goodbye, Killian, don’t come looking for me, please.” I muttered the last words with my voice breaking terribly. It was the most difficult thing I ever had to do.
I took a quick glance at him as I headed towards the door and my heart shattered into a million pieces. His face was tinged with sadness and pain as he watched me leave. “Elena, talk to me please.”
I wished there was another way out of this, but there was none. This is the sad reality and we had to face it. If only he hadn’t rejected me years ago, maybe things wouldn’t have gotten this complicated.
With one last glance, I ran out of the room, I tried hard to clean off my tears and appear normal to anyone I came across but the tears seemed to flow nonstop.
Just as I took a left corner leading towards the stairs, I came face to face with Aria.
I really do not need this right now.
“Well, if it isn’t the most shameless woman to walk the earth.” She taunted, her eyes filled with disgust and hatred.
If not for the few housekeepers around, someone’s head would be rolling on the floor right now, and that person wouldn’t have been me.
“I don’t have time for this,” I shoved her roughly away from the road and bolted off, all the way out of the palace and towards my house, sobbing uncontrollably.
The sad reality was finally hitting me, I could never carry out the mission. There was no way I could bring myself to kill Killian, no matter how hard I tried to shut my feelings out.
It was wide in the open now, I had fallen head over heels in love with him over again. He still remained the man that my heart beat for years ago, and till this moment.
One thing is sure, I could never handle the pain of seeing him dead. I needed to devise another means to rescue my children from the evil claws of Aragorn that didn’t involve killing Killian. There has to be another way.
If I can’t eliminate Killian, then there must be something else that I could do to put an end to this misery.
I could only achieve that in one way, and that was by leaving the pack totally. The more I stayed here, the more Killian posed as a distraction to me.
I had only a few days left and I needed to make use of it in the best way that I could.
Halfway to my house, I felt a strong pair of hands grab me and pulled me into a secluded corner. I was about to scream when my eyes landed on the most shocking sight.
Someone, rather.
The last person I ever thought of setting my eyes on.
“Darius?” My voice came out in a whisper.
He was standing before me, staring into my eyes with the most tender look.
I blinked my eyes repeatedly wondering if it was all a figment of my imagination.
Just as if he could see the doubt in my eyes, he closed the gap between us and pulled me into a hug, as if trying to prove to me that it was truly him.
“It’s you,” I relaxed into his arms and finally let it all out, my tears dampened his shirt as sobbed bitterly.
“It’s okay, babydoll, I’m here.” He whispered gently, stroking my back soothingly.
Once I had gotten down from my peak of emotions, it suddenly dawned on me that Darius was truly in Crescent Star pack.
I jolted away from his arms and stared at him with a questioning look. “What are you doing here? How did you even find your way in?” I queried.
“I disguised as one of the guests for the ball.” He replied.
My gaze lingered on him unbelievably.
He reached out and arranged my scattered hair. “You were crying, what happened?”
I bursted into another fit of tears.
“Hold on, did that bastard hurt you?” His voice rose in fury.
“No! No, of course not.” I quickly blurted out. I watched as his countenance softened, he reached out to tuck a strand of my hair.
He cupped my cheeks in his hands and stroked gently. “I’m glad you are okay, Elena, I missed you so much,” he whispered.
We stayed that way for several seconds before he asked the question I dreaded so much.
“What is the current situation of the mission? I saw you leave the ballroom with him last night, were you able to carry out the mission? Is he dead already?” He questioned with a gleam of expectation in his eyes. I looked away from him, my gaze anywhere but his face.
“No, not yet. We were interrupted before I could do it.” I lied. I tried to avoid his gaze, afraid that once I looked into his tender eyes, he would read out the truth that I was trying so hard to hide away from him. Including my intense moment with Killian last night.
“Well, it’s a good thing I’m here now, I’ll help you get rid of him.” His next words sent chills through my body.
