about to become a mother.

Elena’s POV.
“Do you really have to go?” I pouted as I walked with him out of the chambers, as we approached his warriors.
He had gotten a message last night from a nearby pack pleading for his presence in a meeting and I haven’t stopped groaning since then.
Darius has been my strongest companion over the past few months, he made sure I ate healthily, took long walks, rest a lot, and visited the clinic appropriately.
He was the reason my child and I are in good condition.
“C’mon babydoll, I’ll be back before you know it,” he tried to cheer me up.
“Promise?”
He busted into laughter, shaking his head amusedly. “I promise,”
I did a little jump in happiness.
“Now, in turn, you have to promise to eat all the fruits I dropped off for you before I return,” he said.
“I will.”
“Good girl.” He reached out to stroke my cheeks gently. “Helen will be coming over to keep you company, are you okay with that?”
One charming thing about Darius, he will always ask for my permission whenever he’s making a decision that involves me.
“Helen is fun,” I replied and he nodded.
“I have to go now babydoll, be a good girl, and take care of yourself for me.”
I nodded frantically like a kid taking severe guidance from her parent.
He leaned forward and pecked me on the cheeks, he flashed me a warm smile before turning around and walked away with his guards.
I stood still on the spot watching him until his figure totally disappeared through the lane.
I suddenly felt a huge void as I stood alone, watching the lane that he just walked through.
I’ve gotten so used to him being around me all the time, he made me feel safe, his presence made me forget my worries; now that he’s gone, I felt empty.
Slowly, I turned around and headed back to the house.
I passed through the kitchen to grab a glass of water, after which I headed back to the room.
I couldn’t help but notice the tiny pangs of pain that hit my belly as I took each step.
I tried to ignore it but it intensified with each passing second.
What could be wrong?
I quickly hastened my steps back to the room; It’s a good thing that Helen will be coming today anyway.
I awaited her arrival until I dozed off.
A soft knock on the door woke me up from my deep slumber, I quickly climbed down the bed and went to get the door, trying hard to ignore the pain seizing me up.
I smiled widely as my gaze fell on Helen. “Hi Helen, you are here.”
“Pardon me for not being here earlier, I had to attend to a sick patient,” she explained.
“That’s totally cool, please sit.”
I tried not to limp as I took my seat beside her.
“Are you okay? You look pale,” she observed.
Of course you can’t hide away from a healer.
“It’s nothing, just a little pain in my belly but let’s talk about that later, I need to talk to you about something really important.”
She furrowed her brows at me, before nodding at me to go ahead.
I stared at her blankly, racking through my head, thinking of a better way to go about it.
“Uhm…, few months back, Darius and I discovered that we are mated together.” I started.
I watched as her face suddenly lit up in a broad smile.
“Wow, that is such a good thing Elena, praises to the moon goddess, she has favored you.”
“I don’t know if it’s a good thing Helen, I haven’t accepted the mating bond yet, and I don’t think I would,” I replied.
Her wide smile tightened into a confused frown. “Why is that?”
I stared at her, without saying a word.
“This is about your past right? Possibly your ex-mate? The one whose child you are carrying?”
I shot her a surprised glance; how is she so accurate?
“Is he still alive? Are you attracted to him still?”
I couldn’t say a word, I only continued moping at her with an expressionless look on my face.
“Who is he, Elena?”
A loud scream fled my mouth as the pain in my abdomen hit me multiple times harder than usual.
“Are you okay? What’s wrong?” She sprang to her feet.
“I don’t know, Helen, I feel so much pain,” I fisted my hand on the bed cover trying to breathe at least. “My waist!” I screamed at the top of my voice.
“I think you are having contractions, the baby is coming,” she smiled.
“And why are you smiling?” I snarled, glaring hard at her.
I didn’t mean to yell at her, but the pain hitting my waist was too much for me to handle.
“Oh, I’m sorry, here.” She stretched out her hand towards me. “Try to hold on to me, let’s head down to the clinic.”
“Let’s hurry, then!” The pain seems to be increasing at every second. I was losing my mind.
She supported her arms around me, as we made our way towards the clinic. Thankfully, it wasn’t far from the house.
“Please hold on, we will soon be there,” she tried to console me as we approached the clinic.
As soon as we were closer, the midwives who had sighted us from afar quickly ran towards us, and helped us in.
“Hold still please, this is going to be a lot easier if you hold on strong,” She said, helping me to lay on the bed.
The rest of the midwives gathered around us with different equipment which I assumed was for childbirth.
My heart skipped as she began to stretch my thighs wide apart.
This is really happening. I’m about to become a mother.
“Elena listen, you have to be strong for this, don’t be scared, okay?”
I nodded slowly.
“You are tensed, you don’t have to be, relax your body so it would be easier for us,” she continued.
“Helen, I’m not going to die right? I won’t lose my life,” I stared at her deep in the eyes.
“You won’t, you’ll be here to watch over your child, only if you cooperate with me.” She reassured me.
nodded frantically, though my heart raced rapidly.
“Now push, as hard as possible,” she breathed out.
I clenched my fist and pushed.
“Harder!” She screamed.
I added more strength and pushed but nothing seemed to be moving.
I was losing my breath rapidly instead.
