Elena’s POV.
My heart did a double flip as Darius walked into the room. He had a warm smile on his face.
I couldn’t help but wonder if the smile would still remain intact after I’ve broken the news of my condition to him.
Nonetheless, I had no choice left, Helen said he hated dishonest people and the last thing I wanted was for him to see me that way. I needed to tell him before he finds out. Pregnancy isn’t something that could be hidden for a long time.
“Pleasant morning, Alpha Darius,” I tried to smile through my tensed state.
“It’s always good to see you, Elena,”
I tried to hide my blush but it was an epic fail. I couldn’t stop grinning sheepishly. Darius is a charming man. He knew the right words to use at the perfect time. He reminded me so much about Killian despite how hard I tried to forget, Killian was my perfect lover but I guess not everything good comes to stay.
“Here, have this,” he handed a package to me, he always did that whenever he came visiting.
“Thank you,” I dropped it on the center table and motioned for him to sit. I sat opposite him and cleared my throat.
“Darius, I want to thank you for everything, taking me in even when you didn’t know me, and I’ve been in good care ever since, I really appreciate your kindness, you have no idea how grateful I am.” I began.
“And uhm… I wanted to let you know that the treatment sessions are over now, I’m fine and well,”
A wide smile broke out on his face. “Wow Elena, that is good news, I’m happy to hear that.”
“I have something to tell you, Darius,” I finally got to the hard part.
I had rehearsed my speech a hundred times but right now, it felt like my head was freezing. I was scared of what the outcome would be.
“I.. Uh… The thing is… ”
I couldn’t get the words out of my throat, it felt like there was a lump preventing it from coming out.
I could feel myself trembling, beads of sweat were beginning to trickle down my forehead under the cold atmosphere in the room.
“Hey… Are you okay?” His concerned voice triggered me the more, will he remain this concerned when he learns the truth?
“Elena, you can talk to me.”
I breathed in deeply.
“I’m pregnant, Darius, I am with a child,” I paused to see his reaction.
He was silent for a while, his face expressionless. I couldn’t tell what was going through his mind.
“Trust me, I was going to tell you, but I had just gone through a traumatic situation, I was confused myself.”
He suddenly cleared his throat. “Wow… Uhm… That’s good news, I’m sorry if I look shocked, it’s just a bit surprising, and sudden too,” he finally spoke up after minutes of silence.
Does this mean he’s not so mad about it?
“Well, do you know who the father is?” He asked.
I wanted to be totally honest with him, I wanted to tell him everything, but I couldn’t. It will further complicate things. Crescent Star pack is one of the most well-known packs among the werewolf clan and Alpha Killian, one of the most powerful and feared Alphas in existence. Once Darius learns that the child belongs to Killian, things might not remain the same.
I shook my head negatively afraid that if I said it in words, he might find out that I was lying.
This time, I didn’t consider it a lie, I was only protecting him and myself too.
Surprisingly, he scooted closer to me, stretching out his hands to grab mine.
“It’s okay, listen, I’m here for you, I’ll be here through every step of the way,” he gently stroked my hands in a way that spoke comfort. “You don’t have to worry about anything, do you hear me? You and your child will always have my support.”
I couldn’t hold back the drop of tear that escaped my eyes, rolling down my cheeks as he spoke so softly with so much concern. I couldn’t comprehend how someone could be so kind.
“Hey, c’mon, don’t cry, you are aware that it’s not good for your condition,” he leaned forward, closing the gap between us, and pulled me into his arms. “You don’t have to worry about the father, I’m here to take care of you,” he stroked my back gently.
I was speechless, I couldn’t utter a word, my tears just flowed freely, damping his shirt.
Slowly, my hands moved on it’s own accord, and next thing, they were wrapped around him. A wave of relief and safety washed over me. Somehow, I found solace in his arms.
“And I’m going to start now,” I suddenly heard him blurt out, I raised my head to stare at his face, furrowing my brows at him.
He gently pushed me off his body and stood up.
“I’m going to instruct the chefs to be extra careful with your food,” he announced.
I couldn’t hold back the laughter that fled my mouth.
“Darius, I’m barely few weeks gone, I can eat anything,” I tried to calm him down.
“Also, I’m going to inform the midwives to take over from the healers,” he ignored my pleas.
“Darius…”
“Yeah, I’m going to do that now,” he turned around and ran out of the room.
I couldn’t stop laughing.
Well, that went surprisingly well.
Suddenly, thoughts of Killian rushed into my head.
I couldn’t help but wonder if he would have been this happy if I had broken the news to him. Would he have gone ahead to reject and banish me if he had known about our child?
Different thoughts ran through my head as I remembered the amazing moments we shared together.
His promises of love.
Why would he make me believe in something that was totally a lie?
How would he profess so much love for me and yet, can’t even believe my innocence? He joined the crowd in a heartbeat.
Almost immediately, the door flew open and Darius rushed in with a basket filled with fruits.
“Darius, what are you doing?” I laughed.
“Keeping you healthy,” he rushed towards me at full speed.
He set the basket on the center table and turned towards me, raising a grape to my mouth.
“Eat up.”
