MAEVE HAWTHORN.
Gasping, I managed to share my location with Scarlett as I laid on the bed, curled up like a wet, homeless cat as I waited for my best friend to get here.
She’s the only one that can get me through this, she’s been with me through thick and thin and the fact that she knows just what to do whenever I’m down in the slump is what makes her my best friend.
My chest feels tight and my heart was heavy as I clutched my chest and bawled my eyes out like a little baby while imagining the worst case scenarios.
What’s wrong with me? A week or so ago, I wouldn’t have cared.
The ruckus outside caught my attention and slowly, I walked out of my room and down the stairs to see that it was my best friend throwing a fit.
“LET ME IN, YOU FUCKING SONS OF A BITCH!” She cursed through her teeth as she pulled her shoe off and threw it at one of the men while trying to force her way in.
Seeing her fling her bag around without caring who it hits, seeing her be so chaotic made me chuckle and I sniffled as I heaved a sigh.
“GUYS,” I yelled, putting a stop to the commotion, “She’s here to see me.” I said and watched as my best friend bolted past them and threw herself at me.
“Oh My God! May! You’re fine. You’re really fine.” Scarlett kept saying as she held me so close and tight that I could feel her squeezing the life out of me.
Ushering her in, we both went into my room and I decided to let everything I’d kept bottled up out. Scarlett listened as I told her about Theodore’s infidelity and how I ended up at a mafia don’s house.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you anything about it, I should’ve spoken to you.” I apologized to her but she only shook her head as she clicked her teeth.
“I can’t believe you forgave that lying, cheating son of a gun that many times,” she snapped and knowing Scarlett, if she got a hold of Theodore, she would definitely wring his neck.
“And that aside, I’m glad you found someone else to worry about even though he’s the most dangerous man in the country right now.” She sighed.
A heavy gush of wind blew through my window and a silence settled between Scarlett and I as I placed my head on her lap so that she could stroke my hair.
“You’re really in love with this guy, Enzo, I mean.” She said after a few minutes of silence, “you’re a huge mess, what am I going to do with you.” She added and I sighed.
“First of all, I want you to go and have your bath and we can talk about all the dangerous things your father put you into.” She added.
I didn’t want to get up, I was reluctant but she had always had her way with me so much that it’s really hard to not listen to her.
Scarlett and I continued our conversation while I was in the bathroom and I couldn’t be more glad that she was here with me.
Thank goodness I was able to get a phone and get her to come here. I felt a little bit at ease even though there’s still this unsettling feeling pulling me in every single time.
Soon, I finished bathing and dressing up and I was ready to go back to the hospital again. Scarlett stopped in her tracks while we walked and I stopped with her.
“Say, May,” she started as she turned to face me, the genuine concern on her face was vivid, “do you want to leave this place? I know you said you didn’t want to when he asked you but I’m asking you.”
“I can’t stop being worried knowing you’re confined to this place, knowing you’re involved with the number one dangerous man in the country, it’s too much.” She finished.
“I’m going to be fine,” I smiled at her, “besides, I really want to stay here, I want to help him.” I added and Scarlett laughed before she continued walking.
“I figured you’d say that,” she chuckled, “you have always had something for not just strays but the worst people possible.” She added.
“Hey! That’s not true!” I snapped at her.
“That’s so true, there are lots of good men out there but somehow, like a moth to a flame, you keep drawing the worst ones in.” She responded.
“Sometimes I worry that you might get yourself hurt,” she continued, “you deserve ease, May, genuine, sweet love and not these toxic ones.” She sighed.
“And as stupid as it may sound, I’m glad that your heart hasn’t been damaged by that fool because right now, I know you’re in love with Enzo De-Luca.” She finished.
My lips parted as my mouth opened but I couldn’t deny what she just said because deep down, deep, deep down, I know it’s true.
She’s right. What I feel for Enzo goes beyond just wanting to save him from himself. I want him to be with me.
“I’ll call you every time, every day , every hour, minute and second of the day and you better answer my call each time.” She said as I hugged her when we got to the gate.
“You’re going to ruin my phone’s battery life if you do that.” I laughed and she joined in. I watched as she drove off in her Toyota Corolla.
Making my way back to the building, “Let’s go back to the hospital now.” I said to the men who only nodded as they got into the car and drove off.
I need to stay with Levi until Enzo comes back, being scared of what might have or might not have happened to Enzo isn’t what I should be doing now.
I’m scared, worried but I have to be strong through it. I have to be strong for him.
Soon, we arrived at the hospital and I walked to Levi’s ward. While the men stood outside, I made my way in and what I saw made my heart drop to my stomach.
The lump in my throat grew bigger and my spirits were out of tempo with the bloodied, battered face that greeted me.
“E- Enzo.”
