The force of the explosion knocked me off my feet.
Luckily, my fall was in warm hands. Miles must had seen the explosion coming because he swiftly lifted me off the ground and shielded me with his body.
All I felt was warmth as I stayed under him and when the noise subsided, he released me and I looked up once again to be met with his calm brown eyes.
I froze in place, not knowing what to say before he pulled me to my feet. That was when I remembered that Andrea and Khan had been right in the front.
“Andrea!” I screamed as I started running toward them.
There was blood on the floor, pooling from one of them and it terrified the shit out of me. On getting to the spot, I realised that Khan had taken a hit to his gut while protecting my sister. The broken glass still laid in his guts and I knew that pulling it out was going to make him bleed out.
“Andrea,” I cried as I knelt before her to examine for any new injuries but there was none to be worried about.
Khan grunted in pain at that moment. I blinked at his gradually intensifying condition.
“I’m so sorry,” I managed to muttered in a broken voice.
“Shit, that’s not good. You need to get treated asap! We need a doctor.” Miles suddenly appeared behind me.
“We need to get them to safety first. I can managed a little injury,” Khan grunted.
“Nah, man, you look like you’ll die if you get neglected!” Miles pressed on.
“So will they if we don’t get them out of here now!” Khan firmly stated.
I gritted my teeth. I hated been a liability like this. “With all due respect, I can take care of my sister. All I have to do is take her to a hotel and you can take Khan to the hospital.”
“No!” They both exclaimed.
I frowned.
“You know that have their webs all over the place. See how they easily got into your house and how they got Andrea,” Miles began. “Staying in an hotel is only going to draw attention to you and your prosecutor is probably watching your every movement. That would be a suicide mission.”
I gasped at him. “So where are we supposed to go?”
“I would have suggested my house but given what you did to Lana the last time, I can’t have you anywhere near her,” Khan said weakly.
I gritted my teeth. It was not like I wanted to go live in the detective’s house.
“That leaves my house free. I guess I’ll take you two home with me,” Miles announced.
I almost screamed. ” No way!”
“If you refuse to go, I’ll just drag you away like I did before,” Miles threatened.
Shit!
I gritted my teeth and turned toward the car as Miles carried Andrea himself to his car. Then he stopped to turn to me.
“Where is your phone?” Miles suddenly asked.
I brought it out and handed it over to him. He examined it for a second before launching it into the fire.
“What the fuck?” I screamed. “There are important client numbers there!”
“You can always get new clients but you cannot buy a new life. They have bugged you that’s why they can tell your exact location and when to strike you,” Miles revealed.
I gritted my teeth this time, not knowing the best way to react.
“Come on, get in the car, I don’t bite,” Miles whispered and winked at me.
Khan also got into the car and I figured that the sooner we got to Miles’ home, the sooner Khan could receive treatment.
Miles pressed his foot down on the acceleration and we were speeding down the road in no time.
I swallowed hard as I tried to look everywhere but at Miles. I had a feeling looking at hos face was going to do something to me. So I balled my hands into fists and sat quietly in the front seat.
Eventually, we arrived at a gated and fenced house. Miles pulled up into the driveway and got Andrea out of the car. He swiftly carried her inside while I just stood helplessly there.
“Now that we have brought them home, we need to get you cleaned!” Miles yelled as he came back to the car.
Then he stopped to stare at me. “Make yourself at home. You can use any of the rooms or bathrooms. When I get back, we can fix up some things. There’s also food in the fridge in case you get hungry in my absence.”
I nodded slowly at him. He did not wait for me to finish before he jumped in his car and zoomed back out.
I was left there standing speechlessly and wondering why the man I treated the disdain and disrespect turned out to be the man helping me.
I blamed it on my father for not seeing through the Luna he had and falling for her tricks. I blamed it on my mother for being desperate and too greedy that she became a monster.
Now here we were. We had already lost two parents and I still did not know where Leia was. I wanted to believe that she was safe and just hiding from the world.
She had to be safe.
I sighed and walked into the house. I was awed by how neat it was for a bachelor like him. I walked past the chairs and to the room that was open. Andrea was sleeping peacefully in it.
I needed to clean all of her injuries up, take my own bath and see if I could cook anything for us tonight.
I walked into the bathroom and picked out tr smallest towel I found before wetting it and coming to clean up Andrea’s injuries.
I wondered how they touched her. I wondered how evil and heartless Mother could be to have her do such a thing to her own daughter.
I sighed heavily as I balled my hands into fists. I was going to make my mother pay for what she had done to our family and the dead brother I never got to know.
I was going to be the one to bring her to justice.
