“No, Ulric, no! That’s my last hope! Do you want me to die?!”
She grabbed Ulric’s collar forcefully, biting down in a frenzy, her hands pounding away.
Ulric didn’t move an inch, not even a furrow crossed his brow, allowing her to vent her emotions.
Gradually, Rosalind lost her strength.
“Ulric… My mom did nothing wrong. Why was she the one killed? It should have been me!”
“Why didn’t your mom eliminate everything, including me…”
“Ulric, since you can destroy the video, can you destroy me too? I’m so tired, really tired!”
Tears welled up at the corners of her eyes and slid down.
Ulric raised his hand and gently wiped them away.
But the tears wouldn’t stop, so he had to wipe them one by one as if that would stop her from crying.
“Rosalind, have you… never trusted me?”
“You’ve already planned to stand against me, haven’t you?”
Once she got hold of that evidence, she would immediately cut ties with him and consider him as one of her enemies.
Ulric couldn’t understand.
Why had he never gained Rosalind’s trust?
“I-”
“Rosalind,” Ulric interrupted softly, “How many days until the appointment with my dad?”
“Three days.”
“Alright,” He sighed and stepped back, creating some distance between them. “After these last three days, I’ll let you go.”
Ulric accepted his fate.
He couldn’t hold on anymore, or perhaps he never really did.
“But the video…”
“B7 recovered only a segment of it. He must have made demands before he’d give you the whole thing, right?”
“In three days, I’ll give you the entire video,” Ulric said, lowering his lashes which hid all his emotions. “Including Sirena’s testimony.”
Rosalind looked at him in shock.
“Didn’t you say you destroyed it?”
“My mom isn’t foolish. The video B7 restored has a self-destruct source code expiration and a virus that invades the restorer’s computer. This was deliberately set by Sirena and her. So it could never make it to court.”
By then, Rosalind would become a laughingstock!
All evidence would vanish in an instant, leaving her with nothing to present.
Earlier, Ulric destroyed the copied video along with its source code. Consequently, Jake’s computer infected with the virus went black screen along with B7’s computer.
Rosalind didn’t see it coming.
But…
Why didn’t Ulric say this directly earlier?
He was deliberately testing her.
He wanted to know how she would handle this situation and where she would place him when things unfolded.
“You said Floyd and Jake were waiting for me, right? I’m going.”
Ulric spoke hoarsely and then turned to leave.
Instinctively, Rosalind reached out to grab his clothes, but the robe was too slippery and slipped right through her fingers.
Ulric’s silhouette remained tall and imposing but also lonely and desolate.
Rosalind’s phone continued ringing. It must be B7 calling because his computer had crashed just like Jake’s.
It was absurd to think she’d questioned Ulric based on B7’s words-a person she barely knew.
Ulric had every reason to be hurt.
