Ahmad looked at her, confused by her agitation.
“You are wrong, I won’t let her be stained with blood.”
Yes, Callie’s agitation slowly calmed down. As a pure and innocent young lady, it was impossible for her to be involved in a murder.
Ahmad gave her a deep look. “You have never been a mother, you don’t know what parents can do for their beloved children.”
The weather was clear today, and sunlight poured through the open roof of the factory, falling on her. Her arms felt slightly hot, and her whole body was burning.
But inside, she felt cold.
“You probably don’t know, Maevelyn got lost when she was eleven or twelve. Those years, the family’s business plummeted, and we couldn’t give her the best life. But she was never spoiled. No matter how late her mother and I came home, she would wait for us and say goodnight before going to bed.”
Ahmad seemed to see the obedient and sensible little Maevelyn from the past, his eyes filled with longing.
“She was too understanding, tolerant of everyone and everything. When the family had no money, she even broke her piggy bank. A few thousand dollars, it was her saved New Year’s money, and she gave it all to me.”
Tears welled up in Ahmad’s eyes as he remembered how little Maevelyn would throw herself into his arms and say sweetly, “I don’t have much money, but I’ll give it all to Daddy. Everything will get better!”
As Ahmad described this, Callie also recalled these fragmented memories. She had played with Ahmad’s fingers back then and made a pinky promise with him, “Promise me! Don’t lose heart, Daddy!”
There was once affection between them, but it was very brief.
Callie’s heart ached. The once young and handsome man had now turned gray-haired.
Her tears fell one by one. Ahmad watched, feeling a bit strange, thinking she was moved.
“But later, the Ellison family became wealthy and prospered more and more. Yet she disappeared. For more than ten years, she lived a wandering life. Now that she’s finally back, of course, I want to give her the best life. Can you understand?”
Ahmad looked at the tearful woman and lowered his voice. “Callie.”
“Was your father good to you? I think if he were here today, he would make the same choice.”
Her father…
Callie forced a broken smile and thought of Reuben. “If it were my father, he wouldn’t let me be stained with blood either. He would take the blame for me. He was too good; I loved him very much.”
But he was gone.
If Reuben knew how much suffering she endured today, he would surely feel heartbroken.
Callie slowly turned her head and glanced at the aged Ahmad. He was truly old now; he must have gone through many storms over the years. She couldn’t imagine what his reaction would be if he knew she was his biological daughter…
But now, there was no chance to see that.
“After the wedding, I’ll send you away. You can choose any country you like, but never come back in this lifetime.”
Just like Nelson wanted.
“Why?”
“You’re too scheming. If you stay in Ylosea, Maeve’s marriage won’t be peaceful.”
Is that so… He also said she was too scheming.
“Okay.” Callie took a deep breath and agreed.
“Okay?” He was a bit surprised.
“I just suddenly feel that life is important; nothing else matters.” Callie moved her wrist. “Mr. Ellison, do you think you will ever regret your decision today?”
Ahmad squinted his eyes. “Never.”
“Then I am relieved.”
