Cassius POV
“You know, he talks about you a lot.”
Gabriel’s words had barely left his mouth before I shot him a sharp glare. April, on the other hand, looked absolutely amused. She raised a brow, her lips curving into a smirk as she turned to me.
“Oh really?” she mused, leaning on the counter. “Didn’t take you for the chatty type, Alpha.”
I exhaled through my nose, leveling Gabriel with a look that promised a long training session later. A brutal one.
Gabriel just grinned, completely unfazed. “It’s not like he won’t shut up about you, but let’s just say your name comes up more than any other woman’s ever has.”
April hummed, pretending to ponder. “Interesting.”
I was going to kill my Beta. Slowly.
Instead of acknowledging Gabriel’s nonsense, I turned back to the stove, flipping the eggs onto a plate. “Shouldn’t you be handling patrol reports?”
Gabriel leaned against the counter, still smirking. “Shouldn’t you be handling rogue threats instead of playing house?”
I gripped the spatula a little too tight. April, of course, found all of this hilarious.
I turned to her, ignoring Gabriel completely. “Eat before it gets cold.”
She bit back a smile, clearly enjoying watching me suffer. “Yes, Alpha.”
I narrowed my eyes, but Gabriel clapped a hand on my shoulder before I could respond.
“Don’t worry, April. I’ll make sure he keeps talking about you,” he said, then, just to piss me off, added, “Maybe next time, I’ll walk in on something even more interesting.”
“Get. Out.”
Gabriel left with a laugh and April? She was still grinning as she picked up her fork.
I swore under my breath and sat down beside her. This woman was going to drive me insane.
And I couldn’t wait
I was just about to enjoy my coffee when Gabriel’s voice pushed through my mind.
“We really need to talk. Pack business.”
I exhaled slowly, setting my mug down. “I was going to say the same thing. Meet me in my office in ten minutes.”
I felt Gabriel’s acknowledgment before cutting the link. Across from me, April was entirely focused on her breakfast, blissfully unaware that her presence had shifted everything in my world. And that was the problem.
I needed to tell Gabriel everything.
The rogues weren’t just passing through or looking for an opportunity to cause chaos. They had a target. And that target was sitting across from me, stealing bites of my food like she hadn’t been served her own plate.
I didn’t call her out on it. If anything, I found it oddly endearing.
“Something on your mind, Alpha?” she asked, licking syrup off her thumb. I forced my gaze away from her mouth.
“Pack business,” I said, standing. “I need to talk to Gabriel.”
She nodded, pushing her plate away slightly. “Right. Guessing it’s about the rogue?”
I considered my words carefully. “Yeah. Among other things.”
Her expression didn’t shift, but her fingers tapped lightly against the table. It was her tell-something I’d picked up on. She was thinking, calculating.
“Will I be getting details on this ‘pack business’ at some point?”
I walked over to her, resting a hand on her shoulder. “At some point.”
She scoffed. “Convenient answer.”
I smirked, squeezing lightly before letting go. “Finish your food, April.”
And with that, I headed toward my office.
Because it was time Gabriel knew the truth.
