she was scared

As the ceremony progressed, Rowan’s hand moved subtly, his fingers brushing against Amara’s arm. The touch sent a jolt of electricity through her, a reminder of the passion they had shared. She glanced at him, her eyes meeting his. There was a challenge in his gaze, a silent dare.
Amara’s resolve wavered, the intensity of his presence breaking down her defenses. She shifted slightly, trying to put some distance between them, but it was futile. Rowan’s proximity was intoxicating, a pull she couldn’t resist.
At the far end of the aisle, Leo stood tall and confident in his navy blue suit. The suit was perfectly tailored, emphasizing his broad shoulders and lean physique. His usually playful demeanor was replaced by something more profound, more reflective. His eyes which were usually filled with dark intent, were now fixed intently on the entrance to the ballroom.
As the music swelled, the doors at the back of the ballroom opened, revealing Emery on the arm of her father, Vladimir Ivanov. Emery looked breathtakingly beautiful, her gown a masterpiece of delicate lace and flowing silk. The bodice hugged her form, while the skirt billowed out around her, creating an ethereal effect as she moved. Her hair was styled in soft waves, cascading down her back, and her eyes shimmered with unshed tears of happiness.
Vladimir walked beside his daughter with a sense of pride. He was a man who was used to rule and command, yet, as he looked down at Emery, his expression softened, revealing a father’s love and the bittersweet realization that he was about to give his daughter away.
Leo’s breath hitched as he watched Emery approach. His heart pounded in his chest, and for a moment, he couldn’t believe that this radiant woman was about to become his wife. Memories of their journey together flashed through his mind-their laughter, their arguments, the quiet moments of understanding that had brought them to this point. The love he felt for her was overwhelming, and as she drew closer, he could see that same love reflected in her eyes.
Emery’s gaze met Leo’s, and the world seemed to fall away. It was just the two of them, bound together by something stronger than words could ever convey. She could see the depth of his feelings in the way he looked at her, a mixture of awe, reverence, and an unspoken promise to cherish her for the rest of their lives. As she took the final steps towards him, she felt a calm settle over her, knowing that this was where she was meant to be.
When Emery and Vladimir reached the end of the aisle, Vladimir turned to his daughter and gently kissed her on the forehead. “Take care of her,” he said to Leo, his voice firm yet kind.
Leo nodded, his throat tight with emotion. “I will,” he promised, his voice steady.
Vladimir stepped back, allowing Emery to take her place beside Leo. As she did, Leo reached out and took her hand, squeezing it gently. The warmth of his touch reassured her, and they exchanged a smile that was both tender and full of unspoken vows.
The officiant began the ceremony, speaking of love, commitment, and the journey of marriage. But for Leo and Emery, the words were merely a backdrop to the emotions swirling between them. As they faced each other, the world around them seemed to blur, leaving only the two of them in sharp focus.
“Leo,” Emery began, her voice trembling slightly as she recited her vows. “You are my best friend, my confidant, my love. From the moment we met, I knew there was something special between us. You make me laugh, you challenge me, and you stand by me even in my darkest moments. I promise to love you, to support you, and to be your partner in all things. Today, I give you my heart, my soul, and all that I am.”
Leo’s eyes glistened with tears as he listened to her words. When it was his turn, he took a deep breath, his voice thick with emotion. “Emery, you are my everything. You’ve brought light into my life in ways I never imagined. With you, I’ve found a love that is deep, true, and unwavering. I promise to protect you, to cherish you, and to be the man you deserve. I will stand by you, through every joy and every sorrow, and I will love you with all that I am, for all of my days.”
As they exchanged rings, their hands trembled slightly, but their eyes never wavered from each other. When the officiant finally declared them husband and wife, Leo pulled Emery into his arms, and they shared a kiss that was full of passion, love, and the promise of a lifetime together.
The guests erupted into applause, their cheers filling the ballroom with joy. But amid the celebration, a tension lingered-an undercurrent that was felt most acutely by those sitting in the front row.
Amara’s heart was in her throat as she watched the ceremony, her emotions a tangled mess. She was happy for Leo and Emery, truly she was, but the weight of Rowan’s presence beside her made it impossible to fully immerse herself in the joy of the moment. She could feel his gaze on her, even as he pretended to be focused on the ceremony.
Meanwhile Rowan was barely able to keep his attention on the vows being exchanged. His mind was elsewhere, consumed by thoughts of Amara and the child sitting on his lap. Vaughn had been a surprise, a child that Rowan had never known existed until now. But the more he looked at the boy, the more he was convinced of his lineage. How could he not be Alessandro’s son? The resemblance was uncanny-or so Rowan believed.
And yet, there was something in the back of Rowan’s mind that gnawed at him. A voice that whispered doubts and uncertainties. Vaughn’s comfort in his arms, the way the boy had naturally settled against him, felt oddly right. It was as if a part of Rowan recognized Vaughn in a way that went beyond mere bloodlines. But the logical part of Rowan’s mind dismissed the thought, attributing it to his possessive nature over Amara.
Amara, on the other hand, was struggling to keep her emotions in check. The feel of Vaughn in Rowan’s lap was both a comfort and a torment. A part of her longed to snatch Vaughn away, to shield him from Rowan’s influence, but another part of her-a darker, more primal part-was stirred by the sight. Rowan and Vaughn together seemed almost… natural. As if this was how things were meant to be. But that thought terrified her because it meant acknowledging something she wasn’t ready to face… atleast not yet.. She was scared.. scared to lose Vaughn..
‘What if Rowan took Vaughn from her, and refused her to meet him.. to even see him..’ She thought.
Alessandro, sitting on her other side, was a seething storm of emotions. He had noticed the resemblance between Rowan and Vaughn, and it unnerved him. Vaughn was supposed to be his future stepson, and yet, seeing the boy so at ease with Rowan filled him with a deep sense of foreboding. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was losing something, that despite all his efforts, he was being edged out. The more he watched Rowan and Vaughn, the more uneasy he felt.
