~JAMAL
I had a feeling the night was going to turn out the way that was in Issa’s favor. . . and it did.
That Bastard Issa had it all planned out, which was why he never let pride drop the entire time. I was more concerned about how he always got his information.
I was convinced he had secret agents everywhere sourcing out information for him from the shadows. Perhaps an organisation. There was no doubt with that Lycan.
I shook my head and laughed. I didn’t tell Issa this but he had gained my respect tonight. He handled everything seamlessly and even managed to name a big traitor the same night.
Thumbs up but quite a shame for me seeing as I wasn’t the one who brought the reveal forward.
My phone buzzed as if on cue. I looked down to see the Caller ID as HQ. I pulled over by the side of the road and answered.
“Is what I heard true, Khan?” His deep voice sliced through the air.
“What exactly did you hear?” I asked, keeping my cool.
He might be my boss but he couldn’t intimidate me.
“Craven’s being a traitor this entire time and his family started the War.”
“Then it is true.”
There was a dangerous pause on his end. “Why did you let the Lycan reveal this? What’s your job in that city? You’re supposed to expose the Lycan for the liar he is.”
I gritted my teeth. “Perhaps we should start changing our perspective of the Lycan. He’s not the enemy we should be after, at least for now.”
“Has he bought you over? I can’t believe you’re defending him!”
“I’m not defending him,” I cut in immediately. “I’m just stating the obvious. Perhaps the prophecy was wrongly interpreted and the one who would bring about destruction is someone else.”
“Are you listening to yourself? Lives are at stake and the Lycan is clearly mentioned in it! That’s why we sent you there in the first place, to stop him before everything is destroyed!”
“Vaughn, I know what I’m doing. All is not as it seems and until I understand exactly what’s going on, we cannot take drastic decisions,” I stated through clenched. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get home.”
I ended the call immediately, not caring that he was my boss. No one had the right to boss me around.
Another message came in and my phone buzzed. I was about to type the nastiest reply ever when I saw that it was a message from Lana.
My heart warmed immediately as I opened it. ‘I hope you’re not stressing that big brain of yours. I made dinner for us two. Come home soon.’
My wolf stirred as I digested the message. I had never felt this way before for a woman. Not even when I had a crush on Yulia.
Everything was different with Lana.
We hadn’t even done anything other than stealing kisses at each other and acknowledging that we liked each other. I was always holding back, leaving before I drowned too deep because I was afraid of allowing myself to fully love.
But with the way that things were going, a threat from Helena Craven and the prophecy hanging on our necks, I could end up dead without enjoying the beauties of life.
So tonight, perhaps, it would be okay to be vulnerable, to open up and to let her in, unfiltered.
So I brought the car back to life and continued driving home while staying aware of my surroundings. I was always constantly checking to see if I was being followed. It was a habit I had from years of training to protect all supernatural creatures and humans alike from harm.
I wanted to protect all of the oppressed from their oppressors.
Maybe that way, my mother will someday be able to forgive me for my sin.
The structure of my house and the lights that decorated the outer part came into view. I enjoyed serene places and the tranquility in my house was what I lived for.
The gatekeeper spotted my car and unlocked the gate for me. I drove in and parked safely before walking to the front door.
I was about to pull it open and Lana suddenly beat me to it. I froze at the sight of her. She was wearing a small black dress that hugged her upper body and allowed her hips to sway freely. They stopped on her thighs and her hair fell freely down her shoulder.
She was a refreshing sight.
“Jamal!” She cried and ran into my arms.
The world seemed to slow as I felt her warmth envelope me in a big hug.
“You’re finally here. I was beginning to think that you ditched me,” she said as she pulled away.
“Then I must be blind for ditching a girl as beautiful as you,” I whispered.
My wolf stirred, agreeing to my every word. She blushed before turning her back to me.
“You need to freshen up and come have your dinner.” She walked away.
I shut the door behind me with a smile and went up into my room. It took me ten minutes to shower and get changed into a loose tshirt and pair of parts.
I walked down to meet her waiting in the dining room and when she saw me, her cheeks turned red immediately.
“What is it?” I asked as I started to look down at myself to make sure I wasn’t dressed inappropriately.
“Nothing. . .” She trailed as she pointed at the seat beside her. “Come sit with me.”
I readily crossed over and sank down beside her. “So, what have you made for me?”
She squealed. “Nothing special, just pasta!”
I laughed. “Anything you make is special to me. I believe you made it with so much love.” I pointed at the plates. “Shall we?”
She nodded and we served each other. I found her staring at me countless times just as I could not tear my eyes off her.
I found that I was not hungry for food but her, thus, I had no appetite.
I had been waiting for the perfect time to swoop in and sweep her off her feet to my room but there was no such thing as a perfect time.
I could end up waiting here forever.
I stopped eating and watched her with a knowing smile. She was about to reach out for a plate of meatballs or whatever she was saying when I suddenly grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her to me.
The moment our lips crashed, she froze.
I nibbled on her warm lips hungrily before pulling away.
Her eyes were wide as she stared at me. “I- I thought you said you wanted to take it slow and you didn’t want any physical contact?”
I nodded. “I did say that but I figured life is too short to hold back. So starting now, you can do whatever you want to do to me and my body.”
She raised her brows at me. “Are you for real? This isn’t a kind of prank because I swear to God I’m going to-”
I kissed her again to shut her up.
“I mean every word,” I whispered.
