Maybe Christian should have told me I had too much of a big heart and he should have told me I was stupid. Empty, that was what it was. Selflessness, I couldn’t imagine myself starving and I didn’t want anyone starving either.
Marcellino must have locked the account after signing the divorce, it meant on thing, Christian wasn’t my step uncle any more, so there was no taboo in our relationship.
I did not know why I felt disappointment, maybe something in me really did like that forbidden aspect of our relationship.
I grabbed my credit card and got dressed, I changed out of the beautiful dress and wore a flat dress, I made a goal to break the news to my mother today.
It was disgusting of her to be going after Christian and I needed to tell her to drop her hopes, so she wouldn’t be having unhealthy expectations.
Christian had called me a couple of times and there were strings of texts he sent after seeing my pictures but I didn’t have any time to respond to him, in an hour he’d be back.
I found my way to see-saw bar and as much as I wanted to tell myself that my mother was not entirely disgusting, I walked into her kissing a man.
“What the fuck is this!” I yelled, making the man jump backwards.
“Jenna, you came”
I turned to the man. He was staring at me lustfully.
“This, is my daughter” my mother said with a dreamy smile.
“Hey…” The man said with a smile, he stretched his hand and touched my hair.
I moved back.
“Fuck you”
“My pleasure” he replied with a huge smile.
I turned to my mum.
“Here, five hundred dollars, I hope you get food and find a job somewhere, this is the last time you’ll be seeing me”
“Jenna, this is Julio, he’s offering me a job as his secretary ”
Look at her, she scooped up the money without as much as a thank you and she had risen from grace to the muds. How did she go from working in a huge company to working in a huge company to working as a secretary for a piece of shit.
“I’m happy for you and Julio”
“You can came work for me too” Julio said grabbing some strands of my hair again.
I shifted away from him and turned straight to the door, I hurried outside of the bar and caught my breath as I went out of the stinking place.
“Jenna, wait!”
I stopped because I wanted to hear her last words.
“Five hundred won’t be enough, I asked Julio for an advanced payment but he doesn’t trust me so bummer”
She was staring at me expectantly.
I wanted to punch her in her guts and tell her to fuck off, I should do it. But I was just paying my respect to her as a mother, for bringing me into this world.
I wasn’t supposed to be carrying cash around but Christian has a lot stashed in the beside drawer, I counted two thousand dollars and shoved it into my purse, I guess something in me knew that this woman was going to pull something like this off. That’s why I carried my credit card just in case.
I put my hand into my purse and took out the remaining one thousand five hundred and handed it to her.
She took it with a smile.
“Buy your newspaper” a man said appearing in front of me, I was standing directly in front of his stall and he must have seen me giving money to my mother.
“No, thank you” I told the man hoping he would leave but he kept on pestering me.
“Where Julio works is out of town, I hope you won’t miss me” my mother said laughing most hysterically.
“But your news__wait, I know you”
I turned in time to see the man running to his stall and grabbing a paper, I was in the front page and Christian was right beside me… We were walking into Mr Mason’s mansion, holding hands, our engagement ring was sparkling.
We made breaking need and front page.
I saw the headline and I gasped.
My mother grabbed the paper from my hand.
“Of course, my daughter is famous, she’s a model, it’s not surprised she made front pag__”
My mother looked up at me.
Her mouth hanged open and her face went white, bloodless, she looked like a heroine addict in that moment.
“Married?” She gasped.
“I was going to tell you”
She looked up at me.
“You were going to tell me, when?”
The fact that she looked so shocked and yet she didn’t stutter on her words alarmed me. It made me scared.
“We’re not married, not yet. We’re just engaged”
White hot pain exploded on my face and I saw green dots as I closed my eyes. I opened my eyes and looked at her, I was shocked, did she just slap me? Another pain, this one made my ears ring.
“How long?!” She yelled in my face.
“I’m not supposed to explain myself to you, but if you really want to know, the Dy he came visit us and he stayed for days because he was in the area project, the day it rained so hard you and Marcellino couldn’t return home, the day I want for my last movie casting”
Her eyes shone wide, months, it’s been months.
I turned away, my ears felt as if I had stuffed it with cotton wool but I walked away from everything, I was hoping it was the last time we ever saw each other, because if it were not, I would have to hit her for raising her hands on me.
I decided to walk home, to get my thoughts together. I had taken an Uber here and I was tired of cars, at least for today. I wanted to remember what normal really felt like.
In broad daylight, a man walked up to me, raised his hand in the air and the sunlight reflected light on the silver blade he was holding.
“The purse” he demanded.
I took purse off my shoulder and handed it to him, I expected the man to leave but he threw his hand over my shoulder and pressed the blade at my side.
“Don’t try anything stupid”
