Caroline looked into his eyes, and there was genuine malice in them-intense and unmistakable.
Obviously, he hadn’t considered her feelings at all, nor the child’s situation…
She felt a suffocating sensation, and her survival instinct made her struggle forcefully. “Johnny, Johnny!”
Seeing her face grow paler, Johnny finally released his grip, clenching his teeth tightly.
“Don’t think that just because you secretly had a child, you can manipulate me! I will never marry you. Stop dreaming! If you’re smart, name your price and get out of Northville City forever!”
Caroline coughed violently, desperately catching her breath, her whole body trembling.
“Think it over and text me.” Johnny walked back to his car.
Caroline hurriedly called after him, “Johnny! Where are you going?”
“Going home to have dinner with my fiancee.”
Caroline had never expected him to leave her here alone!
This was far from the city center, in the suburbs where taxis were hard to find.
“Johnny, I still underestimated your heartlessness…”
When Tilda called Johnny for the second time, he finally picked up.
His voice was a bit hoarse, as if he had been shouting loudly.
“My parents are asking if you’re coming back for dinner.”
“Of course! I’m already driving back.” Johnny chuckled, “Wait for me.”
“Okay! Did you send her away?” Tilda asked.
He understood who “her” referred to. “Yes, don’t be angry. I-”
“I’m not angry at all, really!” Tilda laughed a few times. “I’ve come to terms with Mr. Chow’s past affairs. Don’t worry. I won’t make a fuss over your ex! But it’s best not to let my parents know. They’ve only recently changed their opinion of you.”
“Tilda… you’re a wonderful woman.”
His sudden praise caught Tilda off guard. “Why so sentimental all of a sudden?”
“Nothing.”
“Hurry up. Dinner will be ready soon. Come back to eat before it gets cold!”
“Okay.”
After hanging up the phone, Tilda went out and saw her father setting the table.
“Where’s Johnny?”
“He’s on his way back! He said something came up at the company, so he went to W Group to find some documents.”
Mr. Wales nodded without thinking much of it. “I saw that woman looking for him earlier. I thought it was…”
“Just a colleague. Johnny was too lazy to deal with company documents and was avoiding her. Who knew she’d chase him all the way downstairs? Isn’t that ridiculous?!”
“So, has he finished his work now?”
Tilda nodded. “Yes, don’t worry. I’m keeping an eye on him.”
“I’m just worried you’ll distract him from work!”
Tilda stuck out her tongue and made a playful face, making Mr. Wales laugh helplessly. “You’re about to get married and still act like a child!”
“I’m a child. Mom said no matter how old I am, in your eyes, I’m always a child!”
When Johnny knocked on the door, they were still chatting enthusiastically.
Hearing the knock, Tilda quickly went to open the door.
Johnny’s tall figure almost filled the entire doorway, and his handsome face was adorned with a polite smile-a far cry from his usual carefree demeanor.
“Tilda, I’m back.”
“Come in! Change your shoes and come eat!” Tilda bent down to get him slippers and then pulled him inside by the hand.
