Hearing the door close, the woman lying on the bed immediately opened her eyes.
She got up, took out her phone, and found a SIM card from the drawer to insert. As soon as she turned it on, numerous messages popped up.
Most of them were from Joaquin.
“Someone’s tailing us. I took Karlee on the high-speed train.”
“We’ve arrived in Anbusea. I accompanied her home; she’s looking for evidence.”
“There are people watching in Anbusea too. How many people have you offended?”
“It might not be smooth going back. Try to return before the 15th.”
Today was already the 13th. Callie replied with a “Got it” and made a call. The line was busy for a long time. She frowned and started dealing with other messages.
Everything seemed normal.
She walked to the balcony. The security at Paucaster Villa had increased rather than decreased. Nelson had become more vigilant after her two consecutive escapes.
Callie tried calling again, but no one answered. She gave up and went back to bed, falling asleep almost immediately.
She slept until the afternoon when Nancy knocked on the door to wake her up. “Ma’am, it’s time to get up.”
Callie opened her eyes and immediately picked up her phone. Jamir had called her back, but she missed it, so he sent a message instead.
After reading it, she responded to Nancy, “I’m coming.”
As the time approached, the guards at Paucaster Villa seemed fewer, making the place feel empty and lifeless.
Nancy prepared a meal for her. “It’s a long flight; you should eat something.”
Even Nancy knew about it.
Callie sat at the dining table but didn’t see Nelson. There was only a packed bag with no luggage.
Nancy quickly explained, “Mr. Oconnor said that once you arrive, everything will be provided anew.”
Her phone vibrated. Callie glanced at it and answered silently.
Nelson’s voice came through, “Let me know when you arrive safely.”
Callie’s face was expressionless. After a moment, she asked, “You don’t even want to see me one last time?”
“We will meet again soon.”
She smirked and replied a few seconds later, “Indeed.”
They would meet again soon.
After hanging up, Callie began eating and instructed Nancy, “I need to take my computer. Please pack it for me.”
Nancy hesitated, “But Mr. Oconnor said…”
“It has my design files; they can’t be replaced.”
Nancy thought for a moment and agreed, thinking it wouldn’t matter to bring the computer along.
At the top floor of Oconnor Group.
The night deepened, and the city lights shone brightly below. Nelson stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his anger growing.
Davian sat on the sofa behind him, making tea for himself. “If you ask me, don’t let her go. Keep her in Ylosea to spite the Ellison family. I’d love to see what kind of storm it would stir up.”
Bridger laughed, “It wouldn’t just be a storm; it could turn all of Ylosea upside down.”
Nelson’s face darkened further. Anthony cautiously approached, “Mr. Oconnor, you haven’t rested for a day and a night. You should sleep; it takes a long time to reach New Zealand.”
“Get out.”
Anthony had no choice but to retreat and signaled to Davian and Bridger. They understood and waved him off.
At six in the evening, Callie was taken to the airport with nothing but a bag. Before leaving, she wrote a note: “Nancy, contact this person after I leave and make sure Pepper is delivered to her.”
“Okay.”
As the vehicle passed Oconnor Group, Callie looked up. The building was too tall; she couldn’t see anything.
