Sylvia turned around and saw the tall man walking ahead, with Jax following behind carrying a lot of nutritional supplements.
As they approached, the man naturally took her hand and asked softly, “How is Jasper doing?”
“His recovery is going well. He’s young and in good health, so there shouldn’t be any problems or aftereffects,” Sylvia replied, feeling the warmth of his hand. She smiled slightly, “I need to go downstairs first.”
Franklin noticed she was wearing a white coat, which she only wore when attending to important patients.
So, did something happen?
He narrowed his eyes, “What’s wrong? Is someone sick?”
Sylvia then remembered that he didn’t know about her grandmother’s situation. She briefly explained it to him.
The man’s grip on her hand tightened immediately, “I’ll go visit your grandmother later.”
“Okay,” Sylvia nodded and raised her hand, still held tightly by him, “Aren’t you going to let go?”
Reluctantly, Franklin released her hand, “See you later.”
Sylvia smiled and walked away.
When Franklin entered the ward, he saw Jasper having breakfast, with Evie serving him a bowl of rice porridge.
Seeing Franklin, Jasper’s eyes lit up, and he tried to get up, “Master Franklin?”
“Lie down and eat properly.”
Franklin quickly walked over and helped him back down. He observed Jasper’s complexion and saw that it had indeed improved as Sylvia had said.
“Master Franklin, I haven’t had a chance to ask you,” Jasper glanced cautiously at the door. Evie understood and went to close it.
Jasper then spoke again, “What secret is hidden in that map and tablet? Have you figured it out?”
“The map is a blueprint of a research institute,” Franklin explained everything he and Sylvia knew.
About ten minutes later, Jasper finally finished listening.
“So, the secrets are hidden in those online novels, and it will take time to investigate them,” Jasper summarized softly.
Franklin nodded, his face serious, “Yes, you’re right. So you need to recover quickly. I can’t do without you.”
“It’s my fault for getting into a car accident,” Jasper said regretfully, looking at his injured body.
“It’s not your fault; it was an accident. Sylvia and I are investigating the cause of the accident. We suspect it was deliberate,” Franklin continued. “I’ve arranged a new, more concealed place for Evie, Jaime, and your parents. It won’t be easy for those in the shadows to find them.”
“Thank you, Master,” Jasper said with gratitude in his eyes. “You’re always so thoughtful. It’s a shame I can’t be by your side during this time. Fortunately, we have other brothers.”
“Focus on getting better. I’ll visit you another day,” Franklin said before leaving with Jax to go to Queena’s floor.
But they found the room empty except for a nurse pushing a medicine cart inside.
“Where is the patient in this room?” Jax asked instinctively.
“Oh, she went for a detailed examination. She might be back soon. You can wait here,” the nurse said before leaving.
Jax sensibly offered, “Master Franklin, I’ll go buy some gifts and fruits nearby.”
Franklin nodded in agreement, and Jax ran out.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Queena still hadn’t returned.
Franklin frowned and left the ward to find another nurse to ask about the situation. As he turned to leave, a man dressed as a nurse quietly entered the room. Franklin couldn’t find any available nurses outside and returned to the ward just in time to see the male nurse hurrying away.
Instead of chasing him immediately, Franklin checked the medicine cart and noticed one bottle of medicine still slightly shaking. He picked it up.
Damn it!
The medicine had been tampered with.
As he prepared to find a nurse to check it out, Isaac walked in with a fruit basket and some nutritional supplements. Seeing Franklin holding the medicine bottle, Isaac frowned, “Franklin, what are you doing with that medicine? Are you trying to tamper with it?”
Franklin was taken aback, “No. A male nurse just tampered with this medicine. I was about to find a nurse to check it.”
“How convenient,” Isaac sneered. Seeing Sylvia and Old Mrs. Hipps return, he continued, “You two came back just in time. I caught Franklin trying to tamper with the medicine. Sylvia, check the medicine immediately. If something happens to your grandmother because of this, it would be unimaginable.”
Sylvia blinked in disbelief, “What did you say? Franklin tampered with my grandmother’s medicine? And you caught him?”
What game was Isaac playing? This was absurd.
Franklin would never harm her grandmother.
Ridiculous!
If you’re going to lie, at least make it believable.
Sylvia’s opinion of Isaac dropped even further.
“Sylvia, I saw it clearly. When I came in, he was shaking the bottle as if adding something to it,” Isaac insisted seriously. “If you don’t believe me, we can have all the medicine tested immediately.”
Franklin glanced at Isaac confidently demanding a test. How could he be so sure there was something wrong with the medicine? And why did he arrive just as Franklin picked up the bottle?
These suspicious clues set off alarm bells in Franklin’s mind.
“We will have the medicine tested, but I trust Franklin wouldn’t harm my grandmother,” Sylvia said with an expressionless face.
She called over a nurse on duty, “Take all this medicine for testing.”
The nurse complied immediately and took the cart away.
Queena also believed Franklin wasn’t capable of such an act. She said kindly, “Franklin has always treated me with respect. He buys me supplements and chats with me often. How could he do such a thing? Mr. Carr, you must be mistaken.”
“I hope I’m wrong. After all, Franklin is my brother. I want him to be the best brother in the world. I was just too worried about Grandmother’s health,” Isaac said as he changed his tone when he saw Sylvia and Queena didn’t believe him.
He then turned to Franklin, “I’m sorry for being too hasty earlier. I was really worried about Grandmother’s health. Please don’t take it personally.”
Franklin snorted coldly, his face stern, “Since you’re so concerned, we won’t blame you. Let’s wait for the test results.”
“Grandmother, it seems Franklin is really angry with me,” Isaac sighed heavily as he sat beside Queena and held her hand. “Although we aren’t from the same mother, we share the same father. He has always been wary of me. Grandmother, why don’t you help us reconcile? I genuinely want to be good brothers with him.”
Sylvia was shocked by his words. Was this really Isaac?
How had he fallen so low? Had his character completely collapsed?
Or had she always seen him through rose-colored glasses?
Isaac’s standing in her heart was crumbling bit by bit.
She had deep sibling feelings for this man.
When she went public with Franklin, Isaac had said he would bless them and that they would remain good siblings.
Later… he became jealous and resentful.
Now… he could blatantly pretend to be innocent while targeting Franklin?
Queena smiled weakly but accepted Isaac’s suggestion. She looked at Franklin slowly, “It’s fine if you siblings get along well. What I can’t stand is someone using underhanded methods against their own brother while speaking sweetly but acting maliciously.”
“Franklin! Grandmother trusts you. I believe Mr. Carr isn’t someone who would falsely accuse others either. Let’s wait for the results. As for you siblings, I hope there are no more grudges between you because Sylvia is involved too! We are family.”
Her words sounded nice on the surface but carried hidden meanings that made Isaac uncomfortable.
Still smiling outwardly, he said, “Grandmother is right. We’ll listen to her.”
Franklin glanced at Isaac with disdain, “Isaac is right; we’ll listen to Grandmother.”
Sylvia exchanged a look with Franklin as he sensed her gaze and looked up.
“I’ll go check on the test results,” she said before leaving.
Isaac immediately asked, “Is it the medicine report?”
Sylvia shook her head, “The medicine report will probably come out in the afternoon. I’m going to get Grandmother’s health report.”
She left the room.
The ward fell silent until Grandmother coughed heavily to break the tension.
“Mr. Carr, why don’t you go home? Franklin can stay here with me,” she suggested.
“I don’t feel comfortable leaving him alone here,” Isaac said pointedly. “I’ll stay too; it’s livelier with more people.”
