Jamir was not in Ylosea, and Callie couldn’t think of anyone more suitable than Nelson to rely on. If she didn’t go back tonight, he would probably turn the whole Ylosea upside down.
So she nodded.
Before leaving, she wanted to say goodbye to Mollie but couldn’t find her. A waiter said, “Are you looking for Miss Ross? She was taken away by the boss.”
Callie opened her lips. After so many years, getting recognition from her subordinates meant Mollie’s efforts weren’t in vain. But did it matter to her?
Nelson thought he had arranged everything perfectly for her benefit, but it wasn’t what she wanted.
The bar’s restroom was always crowded. Callie waited outside, fiddling with her phone. As expected, Nelson sent a message: “Do you love running away from home?”
Callie didn’t reply, rubbing the screen with her thumb, her eyes vacant.
Regan was unusually slow. As Callie lowered her gaze, a pair of large hands suddenly appeared before her eyes. “Miss Marsh, fancy meeting you here.”
Callie looked up to see a young man with a carefree demeanor, likely a wealthy second-generation heir.
She searched her memory but found nothing relevant. “Who are you?”
“You don’t know me?” The young man sneered. “But I know you. You’re really beautiful; no wonder Nelson can’t let go.”
Several companions followed him, pushing Callie into a corner. “I’ve wanted to meet you since I saw you charming everyone in Ylosea.”
“Over the years, you’ve offended so many people but always got away unscathed because of Nelson. Miss Marsh, you’re quite impressive!”
He gritted his teeth and poked Callie’s shoulder hard with one finger.
She endured for a while before impatiently raising her eyes. “What exactly do you want to say?”
“See, now that’s a smart woman.” He laughed with his companions, then looked at her with interest. “Everyone in Ylosea knows Nelson is about to get married. You’ve fallen to this point; why not come with me? I want to see what you’re capable of!”
It was utterly vulgar.
Callie frowned, considering if she should beat them up if Regan didn’t come out soon. It might be difficult to handle the aftermath since this guy seemed to be a wealthy heir in Ylosea.
While she was thinking, they started to act. “Speak up! Cat got your tongue?”
Callie was pushed, and her white shoulder turned red instantly. Tears welled up in her eyes as she angrily looked up, meeting a gaze.
The corridor had been cleared at some point. Nelson stood backlit, his figure tall and lean, exuding a lazy yet fierce aura.
Although she hadn’t deliberately avoided him, she didn’t expect him to arrive so quickly.
The person in front of her kept pushing. “Do you really think staying silent will solve anything? Nelson can protect you for a while but not forever!”
Callie’s gaze was distant as she finally spoke. “He can’t.”
They laughed. “At least you have some self-awareness.”
Callie’s expression remained calm. “Who are you avenging? I’ve never seen you before. There aren’t many people my age in our circle who have a grudge against me. Let me guess… could it be Maevelyn?”
Her words hit the mark, and the young man became impatient. “I want to hit you just because I can. Now that Nelson isn’t backing you up, take it!”
He raised his hand to slap her face.
But a hand appeared out of nowhere, stopping all his movements.
