Chapter 95

Nathan’s POV
“What?” I exclaimed, getting up. “You’re not going to join hands with
our pack and there will be no cooperation after everything we did?”
It felt like I was going through betrayal just because of what Mia did to
us. We were this close to having everything we wanted to support our
pack. We wouldn’t have brought ourselves so low if she wasn’t here. The
main reason we are here is because of her, not exactly because of the
cooperation anymore. And if we don’t have a cooperation, there’s no
reason for us to see her-which is why we can’t accept it.
“I don’t understand. You didn’t say it was going to be like this before, but
now you are changing things, and it feels like a betrayal from your side,”
Xavier said.
“Betrayal? Did you just talk to me about betrayal? How dare you! After
everything you made my cousin go through, I still chose to give you a
chance, and you blew it. Now you are talking to me about betrayal?”
Damon fired at us.
He’s right in a way because we did everything to make her suffer, and
now she’s getting back at us. There’s no other way to explain this than
revenge, and she does have every right to be mad at us.
“This has nothing to do with what happened in the past. We already
agreed not to mention the past when we started this,” Xavier continued.
He nodded. “I did agree with you, but that changed after what you did
today.”
Rolex shook his head, sneering at the point he made.
“You know very well that we didn’t do anything to hurt her. If we did, she
wouldn’t even be here with you. We agreed to be her guards on our own.
Do you think we’d hurt her?”
I think he knows better than anyone that we didn’t do anything, and this
is just her trying to get revenge on us. It’s not like anything we do to
defend ourselves now is going to work.
He shook his head. “Of course, I know she’s trying to frame you, but it’s
not like you don’t deserve it anyway.”
My brothers and I looked at him in shock. We couldn’t believe that he
actually knew the truth and still decided to break this cooperation. We
had already talked to our father about this, and he was expecting more
from us. Were we supposed to go back and tell him we ruined everything?
Also, we haven’t told him about Mia’s appearance. He probably won’t
believe us, no matter how we try to defend ourselves later on.
I looked at him while shaking my head. “If you knew that she was doing
this to get back at us, why did you try to kill us then?”
“If I didn’t do it like that, do you think she would feel happy knowing
that I sided with you? I’m only doing what she wants, and that is why
this cooperation can’t continue-because she keeps getting unhappy
every time she sees you people,” he replied, his mind already made up.
There wasn’t much we could do to make him change his mind about it,
so we decided to leave first and go home. When we got to our apartment,
we sat down, thinking about what to do next. Apologizing to her
wouldn’t mean anything since she doesn’t even want to see us at all. It
just shows how much she hates us and wants to be away from us, which
is understandable, considering her history with us.
“This can’t keep going on. We have to come up with a way to stop all this
from happening,” Sean said.
No one else was able to say anything for a while because we were all
thinking about what to do. I decided to bring up the suggestion I had
thought about.
“How about we just accept the fact that we can’t change anything and
just go back? It’s not like we aren’t guilty of doing all those things to
her.”
“Are you seriously suggesting we go back after everything we have done?
Is it that you don’t want to live, or are you just tired of your life?” Sean
scolded me.
“You’re even thinking about your life right now when it’s not going to
matter anymore,” I fired at him.
Xavier banged his fists on the table. “I don’t think now is the time for
you all to be fighting about what’s not important. How about coming up
with a solution other than dying?”
I didn’t want to take part in this conversation anymore, so I went back to
my room to rest. Looking back at everything, I was the worst of my
brothers. I did everything to make her suffer. I even tried to kill her once,
and I was happy when she was finally sent to die like that. But I guess my
punishment was also being the first person to discover that everything
was a lie-and we had only made her suffer for no reason.
Thinking that her mother had any relationship other than friendship
with my father was the start of all this misunderstanding. If only my
father had cleared this up in time, then things wouldn’t be as difficult as
they are for us now.
I didn’t think much about it the entire day until the next day when we
were finally asked to come and see Alpha Damon again. We didn’t know
why he was asking for us, but we still went anyway.
“I know it’s surprising for me to call you now, but after everything that
happened yesterday, I already discussed it with my father. He asked you
to continue protecting her-for a reason best known to him. So, you have
to keep doing your job for the given time frame,” he said to us.
Should I be thankful or happy for receiving something like this? I don’t
even know. It’s hard to acknowledge any of this, knowing that she’s still
going to hate us and make things difficult for us. She doesn’t even want
to see us at all. I don’t see the point in continuing with all of this.
“Don’t look so down, Alpha Nathan. You’re the next leading Alpha of
your pack, along with your brothers. Surviving should be the best thing
on your mind right now,” Damon said to me.
Did he see through what I was thinking? Maybe he’s right after all.
Surviving is the best thing I can do right now. I shouldn’t lose all hope
just yet. There might still be something I could do to make things right.
I looked out the window from where I was standing in the living room,
and my eyes almost popped out when I saw a figure that looked familiar.
I looked again, and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
Is that… Tristan?
“What’s wrong?” Xavier secretly asked me.
“It’s him. That bastard is here,” I told him, pointing toward Tristan.
