CHAPTER 51

Book:Stepbrothers Punish Me Every Night Published:2025-3-17

Mia’s POV
I gulped nervously, fidgeting my fingers, as my gaze shifted to them.
They disbelief as the brothers stared at me, their expressions ranging
from shock to suspicion. Scarlet and Layla lay sprawled on the floor,
completely unconscious, their once-perfect appearances now disheveled
and bruised.
Xavier’s eyes narrowed as he crossed his arms. “Did you do this, Mia?”
I blinked at him, feigning innocence. “Do what? Find them like this?
Sure, I walked in and saw them already knocked out. They must’ve
gotten into it with each other.”
Nathan scoffed, he was not easy one to get convinced. “You’re saying
they just turned on each other? Convenient story.”
I shrugged, trying to keep my expression neutral. I can’t let them know
now that I have wolf.
“Believe what you want. I didn’t touch them. If you don’t believe me, ask
them when they wake up.”
Sean frowned, glancing at the two unconscious women. “They’re too
prideful to admit they fought each other. Something about this doesn’t
feel right.”
I folded my arms, tilting my head. “Maybe they didn’t think anyone was
watching. It’s not my fault they decided to handle their issues with fists
instead of words.”
Rolex’s gaze lingered on me longer than I liked. His expression wasn’t
accusatory like Nathan’s, but more curious, like he was trying to piece
together a puzzle. It made me uneasy.
Xavier finally broke the silence. “Fine. We’ll deal with this later. Sean,
help me get them out of here.”
As they moved to lift the sisters, Nathan’s glare stayed fixed on me. I
ignored him, turning on my heel and walking out of the kitchen. The last
thing I wanted was to stay there and answer more questions.
That night, sleep didn’t come easily. I tossed and turned, my mind racing
with everything that had happened. What if the brothers figured out the
truth? What if Scarlet and Layla woke up and decided to pin everything
on me? My wolf, Ima, was calm, almost annoyingly so.
“They can’t prove anything,” she said confidently. “And even if they
suspect, what can they do? You’re stronger than them now.”
“That’s the problem, when they are finding a white wolf to break their
curse,” I muttered back internally.
“They won’t,” Ima assured me. “You’ve seen their reactions-they’re
already divided. Use that to your advantage.”
Her words gave me little comfort, but I knew she wasn’t wrong. The
brothers were fractured, each of them pulling in a different direction. It
was only a matter of time before that division worked in my favor.
The next morning, I dressed quickly, choosing a simple but clean outfit
that was practical for the day ahead. I needed to escape the tension in the
house, and my part-time work with Tristan was the perfect excuse.
When I arrived at Tristan’s office, his warm smile greeted me. “You’re
early. Eager to get started?”
I nodded, managing a small smile. “I figured it’s better than being late.”
He chuckled, motioning for me to follow him. “We’ve got a busy day
ahead. Hope you’re ready to keep up.”
The day passed quickly, with Tristan taking me to several different
locations for errands and meetings. His energy was infectious, and for
the first time in a long while, I found myself genuinely enjoying
someone’s company.
“You’re good at this,” he remarked as we left one of the meetings.
I raised an eyebrow. “Good at what? Following orders?”
He laughed, shaking his head. “No. You’re good at holding your own.
Most people would’ve been overwhelmed by today’s schedule, but you
handled it like a pro.”
His words brought a small flush to my cheeks, but I quickly brushed it
off. “I’ve had a lot of practice keeping up with chaos.”
“Fair enough,” he replied.
As the day went on, I couldn’t help but notice how attentive Tristan was.
He opened doors for me, made sure I had everything I needed, and even
cracked jokes to keep me laughing. At one point, when we stopped for
lunch, I caught myself wondering if this was what a date would feel like
-relaxed, fun, and easy.
“You’re quiet,” Tristan observed, glancing at me as we ate.
“Just tired,” I lied, poking at my food.
He leaned forward slightly, his gaze softening. “If there’s anything
bothering you, you can tell me, you know. I don’t mind listening.”
I hesitated, the urge to confide in him tugging at me. But I held back. “I
appreciate that,” I said finally. “But I’m fine. Really.”
He didn’t push, simply nodding as he changed the subject to something
lighter.
By the time Tristan dropped me off at the house, the sun was beginning
to set. I hesitated before getting out of the car, looking over at him.
“Thanks for today,” I said softly.
He smiled, his gaze lingering on me. “Anytime. And remember, if you
ever need anything, I’m just a call away.”
I nodded, stepping out of the car and watching as he drove off. For a
moment, I allowed myself to smile. The day had been a brief reprieve
from the storm waiting inside.
But that reprieve ended the moment I stepped through the front door.
Scarlet and Layla were waiting in the foyer, their expressions smug and
predatory. Behind them, the brothers stood silently, watching the scene
unfold.
“Welcome home, Mia,” Scarlet drawled, a wicked grin spreading across
her face.
Layla crossed her arms, tilting her head. “You’ve had quite the day,
haven’t you? Running around with Tristan like you’re someone special.”
My stomach tightened, but I kept my expression neutral. “What do you
want?”
“Oh, it’s not about what we want,” Scarlet said, stepping closer. “It’s
about what you owe us.”
“Owe you?” I repeated, raising an eyebrow.
Layla smirked. “For embarrassing us, of course. You think you can knock
us out and get away with it?”
“I didn’t touch you,” I lied smoothly. By judging her body expression, I
can say, she was upto something.
Scarlet’s grin widened. “Sure you didn’t. But it doesn’t matter. Tonight,
we’re settling the score.”
I glanced at the brothers, hoping for some sign of intervention, but none
of them moved. Xavier’s gaze was unreadable, Sean looked
uncomfortable, and Nathan’s smirk told me he was enjoying this.
