An Idea

ROBERT’S POV
~ On seeing me approach, my chauffeur quickly strengthened himself up and froze in shock as though he’d seen something his mouth couldn’t describe. My brows furrowed as I couldn’t understand why he was looking at me that way. ~
“Boss… your arm…you’re bleeding…” He stuttered in a mix of alarm and bafflement.
“Oh…” I feigned surprise like I hadn’t noticed all along. “This?…” I pointed at the bloodied cut on my right arm which I sustained from the broken splinters of that chair after I crashed into it.
The bastard had pushed me really well. I won’t deny he was strong and had the perfect form. He probably works out every day. Due to how busy I am lately, I couldn’t even remember the last time I hit the gym. I’ll probably start when this issue with Lily is resolved and I have my family back with me. But it was kind of amusing to know I was bleeding this much yet I couldn’t feel the pain. I guess anger can make one numb to pain and a whole lot of other feelings.
Fishing out a handkerchief from my pocket, I used it to wipe the stray blood that coloured my arm. The blood stopped just as quickly as it started like it was never even there. I tossed the handkerchief into a nearby bin before marching towards the car with steady, unbothered strides. The cut started stinging because I had brought that handkerchief in contact with it but it was nothing I couldn’t handle.
“It’s nothing,” I said to my chauffeur nonchalantly, my tone chillingly emotionless. “Just a scratch. Get in and drive.” I commanded in a cold, clipped tone as I opened the car door myself and slid inside before he could do it for me.
“But boss, don’t you need a professional…”
“Lucius,” I called his name for the first time in a long time. “Stop talking and just drive the fucking car!”
“I’m sorry boss…” He flinched, apologizing almost desperately.
Quickly, he shut the door and went around from the back of the car to get in. Once inside, he fastened his seatbelt and started the engine, not bothering to ask questions about where we were heading or say anything else.
I know Lily said I shouldn’t get anywhere close to her or the kids but I couldn’t help it. I rather die than be apart from my family for a long. I wonder what played out at her office today after she realized her work-related files had been deleted from her system. I wished I was in that empty room with surveillance equipment to witness Noah getting mad at her. He might have even fired her
But from the looks of things a few minutes ago during our fallout, it was quite obvious nothing really happened. If he fired her then he won’t have to come to the house with her, hovering around her like a fucking guard dog. I know how hard it was for me to convince Frank to perform that task. I can’t believe I failed to achieve my aim. Now, Lily will continue working in that company, seeing him every day and getting close to him. My skin crawled at the thought of him talking to her, let alone touching or hugging her.
But in the wake of the moment, another idea clicked in my head. Another idea that’ll help me get closer to them, especially my kids. Deep down, I want to be the one to take them to school and bring them back every day.
My mouth curved into a solacing smile and I instantly felt light-hearted recalling how happy Liam and Lila were after I introduced myself to their classmates and shared those cupcakes. Their classmates were amazed but more surprised to learn I was their father. It was as if they couldn’t believe it. I can never forget the look on their faces.
After we left school, Liam made me go to a clinic to run a DNA test to prove I was their biological father before we headed for the mall to buy those toys. I had to pay extra to get the results in less than two hours. After it was confirmed, they were overjoyed and opened up to me like never before almost as if they had known me since they were born.
This moment of reminiscing had uplifted my spirit, making me realize just how much I needed them in my life. Having missed eight and half years of their life, there was no room for slacking. I had to be there for them every day of their life to prove myself to them. To have a better understanding of their little world know their favourite food, favourite colour, favourite activity, how they celebrated their birthday, their role model and everything else in between.
All that fired me up, giving me more reason to carry on with this idea that just clicked in my head even though it’ll cause Lily some inconvenience. She’d be really pissed with me. But that is if she finds out which she won’t. I was just worried about how she’d react if she saw me again.
My chauffeur had pulled out of the parking spot and reversed, driving at steady speed towards the estate gate. Momentarily, I caught a glimpse of his worried gaze staring at me through the rearview mirror.
“Once you reach the gate, stop. I need to ask that security guard for a favour.” I said and he nodded firmly in adherence.
