Saul stared intently at the woman. “Alexander offered you such favorable terms. Why won’t you consider it?”
Raelynn’s expression turned cold. “Do you think he doesn’t have other motives? If you force me to go, I’ll quit and return to my hometown.”
Her resolve was firm. “I’d rather go back to farming than work for Alexander.”
She clearly understood what kind of person Alexander was.
“You’re being paranoid. Alexander has so many women around him. Why would he be interested in someone like you?”
Saul scoffed, “He’s just giving you an opportunity because of me. Fine, if you don’t like it, don’t go.”
“But if you don’t go, then don’t complain about having no money.”
He added, “And don’t think I’m showing off by buying so many clothes and the latest iPhone.”
“It’s for networking purposes. I’ve been associating closely with Alexander lately, meeting influential people. Without these items, I can’t even have the qualifications to talk to them. If a man like me wants to strive for success, you should support me.”
“As long as I succeed, you’ll enjoy a good life then.”
Raelynn took a deep breath. “Saul, can’t you stop associating with Alexander and his group? You’re completely different from them, and forcing yourself into their world will only make things difficult for you.”
“It would be better to face reality and start working after graduation so that we can live a stable life in this city.”
“If you promise not to associate with them, I’ll go with you to buy the latest iPhone later.”
She had met Alexander twice with Saul, and each time his undisguised gaze of desire made her deeply uncomfortable.
“Are you out of your mind?”
Saul’s face darkened. “What nonsense are you talking about? Do you know who Alexander is? He’s one of the Four Young Masters of Whiteville.”
“If I build a good relationship with him, he can easily secure my future prospects. With a word from him, I’d have a house and car too.”
Raelynn pleaded softly, “Please stop associating with him, okay? I’m begging you.”
“Haven’t you always looked down on those privileged kids? You think those spoiled brats are all parasites, so why are you trying to associate with Alexander now?”
Saul was infuriated by her words and snapped back, “Shut up! You know nothing! One has to understand the enemy in order to beat him!”
Then he stopped talking to Raelynn and slammed the table as he stood up shouting, “Waiter! Where’s my food? Why aren’t they here yet?”
“Hurry up and serve the customer! Why are you dawdling?”
Soon enough, the middle-aged waiter approached with a tray in hand. With every step he took, his brow furrowed as if he had a back injury.
He carefully navigated through the crowd towards Saul’s table.
“Raelynn, do you see that? In this society, only if you’re strong enough and have deep connections will people respect you.”
Noticing that his food would be served soon, Saul gestured animatedly while lecturing Raelynn on his philosophy, “You have a lot to learn from me. Do you hear me?”
Clang!
In his exaggerated movements, Saul accidentally knocked over the tray carried by a waiter-a loud crash ensued as the tray and the food fell to the ground.
Plates shattered into pieces with a loud noise. Food was scattered everywhere.
The waiter had sauce and broth splattered on him too. Though scalding hot enough to make him wince momentarily, he quickly regained composure.
Saul yelped in pain as he shook his fingers slightly.
The middle-aged man rushed forward apologetically upon hearing Saul’s yelp. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry! It was my fault-did it burn you?”
Raelynn quickly waved her hand. “We’re fine. Did you hurt?”
“Shut up!”
Before the man could respond, Saul reprimanded Raelynn harshly, “What do you mean we’re fine? Did you ask me first?”
Raelynn bit her lip without saying another word.
“How did you carry things?”
Seeing how meekly submissive this middle-aged man appeared, Saul rubbed his fingers while changing expressions from relaxed to pained.
“Are you blind? You saw me here, yet you still bumped into me. Damn it! Not only did my food fall, but also my finger got hurt. It might even be fractured!”
“I’m going to file a complaint-not just against you, an incompetent employee, but also against this diner for injuring me physically.”
Clearly adept at bluffing, Saul continued threateningly, “I’ll post about this on social media so everyone knows how poorly you treat customers here!”
Darnell looked on disdainfully. This scoundrel was so good at bullying those weaker than himself.
The middle-aged man bowed repeatedly while apologizing, “Sir, I’m really sorry. It wasn’t intentional. I’ll compensate you for your loss. Please don’t file any complaints.”
“What’s wrong?”
At that moment, the owner of the diner hurried over and scolded harshly at the waiter. “Breaking dishes while washing them and now injuring customers while serving food-can’t you do anything right?”
“If you’re not capable, then quit immediately.” He then put on a smile and apologized to Saul, “Sir, I’m sorry. He’s a temporary worker.”
“He’s not familiar with the business and has offended you. I apologize on his behalf and will fine him his bonus.”
The diner owner didn’t ask for the reason and handled the situation decisively. “Weston, I’ll deduct five hundred from your salary. And you’re fire!”
“I’ll give the deducted five hundred to this gentleman as compensation.”
Hearing about the compensation, Saul finally gave a cold laugh in satisfaction. “That’s more like it. Let me tell you, if you don’t handle this fairly, I’ll expose you to the media immediately.”
“Mr. Chavez, one of the Four Young Masters of Whiteville, is my buddy. If he gets angry, this diner will be shut down.”
“Since you’re so sensible, I’ll let it go this time.”
Raelynn hurriedly advised, “Saul, we can’t take this money…”
“Shut up! This is what I deserve!”
Saul sat down arrogantly and waved his hand at the owner. “Hurry up and serve my food.”
“Remember, spill on me once, you’ll have to give five hundred dollars. Idiot!”
Then he looked with disgust at the middle-aged man, who was squatting on the ground cleaning up. “And you! Get out of my face!”
“Splash!”
He also threw his tea, spilling it on the middle-aged man’s head. “Bad luck.”
The middle-aged man didn’t have much reaction. He just wiped his wet hair and then continued to clean up with his head down, submissively accepting the mistreatment.
Darnell said nothing, picked up his plate, stood up, and walked straight to Saul. With a splash, he dumped it on Saul’s head.
Saul instantly became soaked.
Darnell took out his wallet, threw down a thousand dollars, and beckoned to the owner.
“Bring me another one, please.”
