Chapter 80
For Now
***
Leila wiped away the tears that fell from her eyes.
She didn’t know how long she had stayed that way.
It was as if she had finally seized the moment even though what she could only do was to stare at the man that her heart is yearning for.
Leila knew that deep in her heart she was still confused. However, even though she wanted to follow her heart, she could ignore the fact that seeing Hunter’s parents could remind her of the pain… The pain of losing her own father. The reason why her family was ruined.
And it was like adding salt to the wound that fate wanted them to see each other again.
She didn’t even know how the heck did Hunter found them in the deepest part of the South. She knew that even if Tammy wanted her to forgive and let love overtake her heart, she wouldn’t let anyone enter this part of the forest.
Leila let out a deep sigh as she was about to stand up and simply go towards the small couch she was sitting from a while ago when she stopped as she saw Hunter shaking.
She was a bit in a panic.
But she knew that this won’t work if she let herself overthink and get worried.
So, she let out a deep sigh and tried composing herself. Then, she stood up to get some move thick bed sheets that she could use to give Hunter some warmth.
She knew this might happened.
‘And yet, you still want to go home with Tamika…’ A part of her commented making her feel guilty.
But she immediately shook her head at that.
She stared at Hunter.
He calmed down a bit but he is still shivering.
This was happening because of his wounds and that Tammy gave her some medicine a while ago. She remembered that Tammy told her about it. She also told her what to do whenever this happened.
So, even though she didn’t want to, she went to the pitcher just near the couch where she was sitting a while ago and got Hunter some herbal medicine.
Leila swallowed hard before slightly shaking Hunter’s shoulder.
“H-Hey…” Her voice even broke.
But Hunter just groaned.
Leila let out a deep sigh as she had no other choice but to sit on the bed and held Hunter’s shoulders so he could take the medicine.
Hunter didn’t make it so hard for her and took the medicine. He even opened his eyes but instantly shut it. Her heart even skipped it’s beat because of that sudden and short encounter meeting his deep ocean blue eyes.
‘Oh, my goodness’ Leila… What the heck are you doing?’ A part of her mind commented at her causing her to roll her eyes heavenwards.
It was a good thing that she learned a lot from Tammy.
She remembered that in the past, she didn’t know what to do when someone in the family is getting sick. She really didn’t know what to do and so, she hated being sick.
It was like a trauma to her. She didn’t want someone dear to her to be in pain.
And she would always panic.
But right now, she could easily calm her horses down.
Tamika really helped her a lot. She is such a good friend well, for her she really is now. However, she didn’t want to tell her that.
Especially that she knew that Tammy could be such a manipulative lady if she wanted to. But not to her. She had already caught that attitude of hers anyway.
Tamika is also a great mentor. She learned a lot about medicine and other things especially about being a werewolf. She wasn’t selfish when it comes to her knowledge. She always shared what she knew.
She suddenly remembered Myrtle and guilt started to grow inside her.
Leila blinked the tears that was dauting to flow.
She didn’t want to feel like that anymore.
Then, her eyes caught Hunter who was now shivering again. This time, she had no other choice. There were no more sheets for him.
Leila swallowed hard and slowly went to Hunter’s side. It was a good thing that the bed was a bit larger which could accommodate the both of them.
She laid her back beside Hunter as she pulled him closer to her for a hug.
Her heart instantly pounded so hard inside her chest like it wanted to break free.
Especially when Hunter pulled her closer to him.
She would have to think twice about whether he was sick or not like he was simply taking advantage of the situation, but she knew better. Hunter wasn’t faking it.
He was still sick and shivering.
And Leila felt like she was about to get sick, too.
‘Love sickness…’ A part of her mind mocking commented making her groan mentally.
Then, she let out a deep breath and slowly let it out.
Her eyes glued to Hunter’s face all of a sudden.
She couldn’t deny the instant peace that embraced her entire system. It was as if she found comfort lulling her to the depths of serenity.
It was as if, time stood still and all that she could do is to seize being caged in Hunter’s strong arms. It was as if this was her moment to be with him no what ifs, no buts just the two of them… ignoring the problems… the walls… the pain.
And Leila…
She bit her lower lip as she let herself get drown by the warmth that Hunter’s body brought to her.
‘Even just for now… Just for now… I don’t want to think of the past… I don’t want to think about what happened in the past… Just for now… I am Leila… And Hunter is Hunter… There is nothing between us…’ She whispered mentally as she closed her eyes and felt Hunter’s calm heart beat.
Right there and then, she felt at peace.
She let herself be free from the pain, anger, and revenge.
For now…
She is the old Leila.
