Chapter 44
Talk
***
Leila didn’t know how many times Hunter tried to call her from the other side of the door but she couldn’t find the courage to face him.
It slowly dawned on her.
Hunter kissed her!
Why?
Why does he have to do that?
‘Don’t be such a hypocrite! As if you didn’t enjoy every bit of it!’ A part of her mind naughtily commented which made her groan.
Leila let out a deep sigh.
She didn’t want to feel such confusion. However, she couldn’t ignore the fact that she was becoming a bit scared. Everything about love and relationship was just… new to her.
And she didn’t know how to respond.
However, she knew that sooner or later she had to face it.
She had to face Hunter.
It was as if she was back in square one but this time, she had to face her feelings, too. She thought that she had already fixed her mind to moving on but the heck! Everything was a mess again.
And it was because of Hunter!
‘Is it really?’ She mentally thought.
Leila let out another deep sigh as she took a glance at the clock, just on her bedside table.
It was already past midnight.
And she was just too worried to go out a while ago.
Hunter delivered her dinner and although she didn’t want to be a burden, she couldn’t really face him.
Even though she couldn’t stop herself from smiling when she thought about it.
*** Flashback…
“Come on, I know that you are not sleeping yet. Get out and eat your dinner, I brought you one.” Leila heard Hunter speaking at the other side of her door.
Silence filled between them as she tiptoed and went to her door.
She heard him sigh.
“You can’t ask me to knock because I am holding a tray…” Hunter said again.
Then, she heard him let out a low curse.
Leila didn’t know but she was thinking of him getting annoyed but still trying to be patient with her.
And that thought made her smile.
“Fine. I will just leave it here. Make sure to eat it, okay?” Hunter said but Leila knew that he was still there and just waiting for her to come out.
She waited for a bit and she knew that Hunter was still there.
“What are you doing here?” Hector suddenly blurted out.
And she instantly bit her lower lip and covered her mouth to stop herself from giggling.
“Damn it! Stop blowing off my cover, you idiot!” Hunter whispered under his breath but it was enough for her to hear from her door where she was leaning into.
She heard someone snorting and she was guessing that it was Hector.
“Stop calling me an idiot. You are the idiot here. If you get the master key and open the door then, your problem is solved already.” Hector stated mockingly.
Leila swallowed the lump in her throat as she felt bullets of sweat slowly covering her forehead because of it.
Nervousness started to creep into her.
But Hunter’s next words made her heart flipped and at ease.
“Stop giving me such foolish advice, Hector. I am not you. I won’t evade her privacy.” Hunter said lowly which made her smile wider.
*** End of Flashback…
Hunter left her food in front of her door. And she got it when she finally made sure that the two were gone.
Yes, it’s true that she wanted to talk to Hunter right at that moment.
In fact, she wanted to hug him tightly and pinched his cheeks.
But she couldn’t do that.
And she was not ready yet.
Not right now.
She had to sort out her feelings first even her thoughts.
Although there was a huge part of her that wanted to open the door and finally asked him what the kiss was all about.
At the end, she just couldn’t do it.
In fact, she was really confused about what to do next.
Or was it fear?
She grunted.
Whatever it was she knew that she couldn’t face Hunter right now.
“You don’t have to feel so confused, Leila…” Silver’s voice resonated at the back of her head.
Her forehead creased as she tried to calm her heart.
She was in deep thought that she almost shrieked because of her sudden words.
Perhaps, she had to remind herself that Silver is a part of her and most of the time comment inside her head because of the link that they shared.
“Why don’t I? He kissed me all of a sudden… And I… And I…” She couldn’t continue her words.
And it was because she was already blushing so profusely.
She bit her lower lip and finally got up from her bed.
“You reciprocated his kisses…” Silver continued her words which made her a bit more embarrassed.
She felt him let out a deep sigh.
“I don’t know why you are embarrassed about it. You love him so, you must be strong enough to fight for what you feel.” Silver stated seriously.
“What if I get hurt in the end… I don’t want to get hurt again…” Leila whispered under her breath she folded her legs and rested her arms into her knees.
She put her chin on her arms as she tried to pour her heart out to her inner wolf.
If she was not in that kind of situation now, she would have found it ridiculous.
Who would think of asking some advice from her inner wolf anyway?
“And what if this time, you won’t?” Silver said disagreeing with her.
“Leila… In life and love, there is no perfection. Sooner or later, it is not always happy. You also have to deal with some sadness and pain. But isn’t it where we become stronger? Just go with it and if Hunter won’t convince you about his reason… Or when you find yourself giving up your love for him, then, just cross the bridge when you get there. For now… follow your heart. I admire the Leila who is optimistic and a fighter, you know.”
Silver words gave her something to ponder on.
And because she couldn’t stop thinking about it she decided to get up from her bed and walked at the front yard for a short while.
Besides, when she looked at the night sky it seemed like the almost full moon was waving at her… luring her to come out and witnessed its greatness.
Leila felt the cold breeze as it kissed her skin.
She embraced her exposed arms as she decided to sit at the stairs going to the front door of the mansion.
The crickets were the only ones breaking the silence of the night. And so, as the rare hooting of the owl. But it was the night that she missed so much. The serenity that it brought was making her feel at ease.
However, a familiar presence made her heart go wild.
She turned her head on the side as she saw Hunter staring at her.
Leila didn’t know if she saw it right but his eyes were gleaming with joy as he saw her.
‘Damn it! I want to hug this man!’ She mentally thought.
But Leila knew that they had to talk.
And maybe, the coldness of the wind and the serenity of the night had given her the chance to decide.
She had to talk to Hunter right now.
However, the latter seemed to be hesitant as he stopped his tracks from going near her.
‘Maybe Silver is right. I just have to follow my heart… If something happens, I just have to cross the bridge when I get there…’ She murmured inside her head as she gave Hunter a small smile, as if urging him to come near her.
And with that, her smile turned into a soft giggle as she saw Hunter’s surprised expression.
“Let’s talk…” She said softly causing his forehead to crease.
That doesn’t sound good even to her but heck! She just wanted to talk to him now, really.
