Chapter 36
Take Over
***
The moment the door was closed, Leila felt so hopeless.
Darkness filled the entire room. Silence became a bit eerier than usual. She felt as if something was stirring inside her but it wasn’t her wolf. It was the hope that was slowly waning in front of her.
For a moment, she wanted to run away. She wanted to stop and escape this. She thought that it was easier than being in this kind of situation.
However, that doesn’t work that way.
She had to face this.
This is her challenge.
But then, Leila didn’t know what to do. And she couldn’t find someone who could help her. Not even Silver which she thought would help her and support her in this kind of situation.
She let out a deep sigh.
The lit torches on the wall seemed to be waving at her. It was the only thing in the room. And they were the only ones who were giving her some light even to the point that she thought those were the only ones cheering for her not to give up.
She swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked above, trying to contain herself as well as the emotions lingering on her.
“No, Leila… Don’t cry over this. You can do it…” She murmured under her breath.
Leila knew that she still had herself. She is a tough cookie. She would do everything to overcome this. She knew that no matter what she could surpass this.
She wiped away the lone tear that escaped her eyes.
She would never give up.
She knew that she wouldn’t.
She would find a way she is determined to do so.
Until the very end, she would still have the courage to find a way.
“Silver…” She called her once again.
This time, she was hoping that she would respond already.
However, seconds… minutes… passed and there was no response.
She tried to close her eyes feel her inner wolf.
But there was none.
‘Was that all of my imagination?’ Leila mentally thoughts.
She swallowed the lump in her throat as she felt the coldness slowly creeping into her system. She didn’t know why but at that very point, she felt like hopelessness slowly sneaking into her mind.
But she was so sure that it wasn’t just a pigment of her imagination.
She knew that Silver was true.
She saw her…
She stopped all of a sudden.
Then, doubt filled her heart.
She was getting more and more agitated as seconds passed by. She couldn’t deny the fact that she was becoming more and more desperate about passing this challenge. Because she had to. This is her only hope to be part of the pack.
“No…” She uttered trying to stop the doubts that was clouding her mind.
“Silver is true. She is my inner wolf.” She monologued as she walked back and forth.
Her footsteps resonated inside the entire hall.
‘And if not? What should I do?’ A part of her mind reasoned out.
Leila swallowed hard as she stopped walking and took a deep breath.
She was trying to calm her nerves.
This won’t help her at all.
“Silver… I know you are there…” She whispered into thin air.
But there was no reply from Silver.
Slowly, silence became intolerable at her already.
Especially that the negative thoughts clouding her mind weren’t helping her at all. It just worsened her emotions.
She sat on the floor didn’t care whether she would get dirty or not. She leaned against the wall as her knees bended and she rested her elbows above it. She placed her forehead on her arms as she tried to compose herself.
However, she couldn’t find it in her heart to be at peace even at times like this.
“Silver…” She called her for the last time her voice was laced with hopelessness.
Then, she let out a deep sigh.
It seemed like the darkness around her was slowly creeping in into her system already. It was as if anytime soon, she would eventually feel the bleakness and it was something that she couldn’t ignore nor stop.
And that was the last thing that she wanted right now.
She couldn’t let negativity creep into her system.
But what else could she do?
This challenge was not just about her. It had something to do with her own inner wolf. She couldn’t do anything or even surpass this thing without Silver. She had to talk to her and asked her what to do.
She didn’t know how long she had been there. She didn’t even feel the numbness of her body. All that was running into her mind was the fact that she had to live and be part of this pack. And to do that, she had to surpass this challenge.
“Leila…”
Her eyes widened in shock as she stood up.
She almost lost her balance because of her sudden movement.
Her giddiness was to the moon. She couldn’t believe that Silver had finally talked to her!
“Silver…” She called her name excitedly.
“What happened to you? Are you okay?” She worriedly asked.
Silence filled the air between them.
“I… I’m fine…” She replied causing her to feel a bit comfortably.
Leila nodded her head.
“You h-heard the elder, r-right?” She inquired seriously.
“Yes… Don’t worry. You have done this before Leila. It’s just that if you decided to finally shift, there is no turning back. You have to let me take over from you. And I am telling you… It is not that easy… If you are ready… Just close your eyes and find our link. I will be waiting for you… Leila…” Silver warned her danger was visibly laced in her voice.
She was ready.
Leila knew that the very moment she entered the world of werewolves and was with Hunter. She knew that she had to face danger.
She let out a deep sigh.
“Yes, I know. Let’s do this…” She uttered in pure resolve as she slowly closed her eyes.
She felt the burning sensation inside her but she tried concentrating more.
She had to find the link her link towards Silver.
Leila didn’t know that she was already sweating bullets and panting hard.
The pain was slowly rushing through her veins owning every bit of it.
However, she had to bear with it. She had to concentrate on her goal to find her link towards Silver and let her take over her.
But she let out a loud cry when her head throbbed in pain.
Her body convulsed as a glimpse of her past flashed through her mind.

“We are serving them, Emilio. The Blacks are the ones who have helped our family our ancestors since time immemorial.”
She saw herself as a little kid sneaking into her grandparent’s study room.
Her grandmother, Josefa, let out a deep sigh.
“We are faithful to the pack… The bond of our family and there… It’s forever, Emilio…”

She couldn’t understand what that was all about because her mind was focused on the pain that was overtaking her.
The pain was just too much for her to bear.
“Just let it go, Leila… Let yourself go. Let me take over it…” It was Silver’s voice trying to make her understand what she needed to do.
Then, she let out a loud growl. She tried to cover her ears with her hands but she felt like she was covered with something warm. Leila’s mouth slightly opened but the pain was pulsating so that no matter how much she tried to pull back her sanity, she couldn’t.
As if on cue, she felt her ankles snapping and everything seemed so surreal already.
