Chapter 24
Cure
***
Hunter heard the loud and eerie growling sound from a distance. His eyes widened as he dashed out of the house. He almost bumped into Duncan, who was going inside the house.
“Where the hell is Leila?” Hunter inquired critically.
But based on Duncan’s expression, he seemed so oblivious as to what he was asking him.
“What do you mean? I didn’t see her. I am-”
Hunter didn’t wait for his words to finish and immediately ran to the woods where he heard the loud growl.
“Look around! Haven’t you seen Leila?” He promptly inquired about the hunters around, but they simply shook their heads.
Damn it!
‘I should have known!’ Hunter thought to himself.
His heart was beating so loudly inside him because he knew… He could identify that kind of growl. It came from a rogue.
“Damn it!” Hunter murmured as he smelled the rogues around.
He knew right there and then that rogues were truly around the area.
‘I shouldn’t have not asked her to come here. It is not yet safe for her! Damn it!’ Hunter mentally thought.
Up until now, he didn’t know the reason why some rogues attacked Leila. It is not yet clear but all he knew was that her life must be in danger.
And if that was the case, the only thing that he could do right now is to hope that he wasn’t late yet.
However, all of his hopes flew when he sniffed into the air trying to find Leila’s scent. But it was filled with a steely scent of blood instead.
“F*ck!” Hunter angrily uttered as he saw Leila’s body filled with blood!
“F*ck it! Leila! Leila, wake up!” Hunter tried to call her name but to no avail.
And his worry was to the moon but he needed to gather all his wits to save Leila.
He carried her to his arms as he immediately went back to the pack’s community.
“Hold on, Leila… Please… Don’t you dare die on me.” Hunter said repeatedly.
Because if not, Hunter knew that he would blame himself for everything that happened.
***
“She is in critical condition. I will monitor her twenty-four seven starting now.” Bobson Fern, Baxon’s father, Hunter’s uncle, and the best salutary wolf in Moon Howlers Pack, reported seriously.
Based on his expression, Hunter felt like a huge and heavy rock filled his entire system. He couldn’t breathe.
“I must monitor her. That is all that I can say. All I can do right now is to make sure that she doesn’t lose too much blood because if that will be the case, then, she might not live for long.” Uncle Bob honestly continued.
Hunter gritted his teeth as he could hear Myrtle’s sobs on the side. Hector simply tapped his shoulder as if telling him that everything would be just fine.
However, it wasn’t.
And it was because of him.
It was his fault.
“I… I shouldn’t have requested a food from her.” Myrtle suddenly blurted out after a short while.
Everyone was trying to find some medicine that Uncle Bob asked for. While Hunter remained there to make sure that he was there once Leila awakened.
Myrtle decided to stay there with him.
For the first time since he met Leila, he didn’t know what to do.
And he couldn’t understand why. He couldn’t understand himself.
“Don’t blame yourself. I should be the one to blame. I am with her, but I didn’t do what I needed to do for her. I didn’t guard her thoroughly.” Hunter stated annoyingly.
Then, he leaned on the wall as he tried to calm his raging nerves. He wanted to k*ll those rogues who did this to Leila. And he would.
Once she awakened. Once he made sure that she was already fine. Then, he would.
Hunter clenched his jaw.
“Don’t blame yourself, Hunter. No one wants this to happen.” Myrtle soothingly comforted him.
Hunter looked at her.
This time, he couldn’t understand himself.
Myrtle held his hand but he felt nothing. It was just a simple touch of comfort and nothing else. He didn’t understand how his feelings changed in a short period of time. But one thing is for sure, that noisy and naughty Leila has something to do about this.
And she must wake up.
She must and explain what she had done to him.
***
“You can sleep for the mean time. You haven’t sleep yet.” Myrtle reminded him softly as she sat beside him.
She gave him a coffee.
It’s been two days since this happened and Leila is still waking up.
Hunter was about to say something, when Uncle Bob suddenly went out of the room where Leila was.
He immediately stood up and faced him. Hunter swallowed hard as he saw his exhausted and hardened expression.
His heart suddenly felt like something was going on.
“What happened? Is she okay now?” He asked him worriedly.
However, Uncle Bobson let out a deep and breathy sigh.
“I will be honest with you, Hunter.” Uncle Bob stated seriously.
His heart was beating so fast inside him anticipating the salutary wolf’s next words.
“Leila’s condition is getting worse. There is nothing that we could do now.” He continued causing him to feel numb.
It was as if all of his strength had left him. His heart stopped beating inside him.
Myrtle, on the other hand, gasped and cried silently beside him. He couldn’t even comfort her.
All that he could do was to take everything in. His mind seemed to shut down.
“N-No! There… There must be a cure… P-Please uncle… Save her…” Hunter blurted out as if begging for his own life.
Because right now, he had already felt that way.
It was as if it was his life that had been taken. It was as if his heart was being broken and crushed inside him.
This time, he realized that he had grown feelings for Leila already. That she meant a lot to him already.
He mentally cursed inside him for realizing this late.
“Please uncle! Save her… There must be a cure. There must be!” Hunter pleaded as he felt his legs wobble.
Uncle Bob let out a deep sigh.
“But… This cure is…” Uncle Bob suddenly murmured under his breath as he shook his head.
But it was enough for him to hear it and to give him hope.
Hunter looked at him seriously.
“T-Tell me… I will find it for you. Just save her.” Hunter stated hoping.
But it seemed like it was not a good idea to tell him. But Hunter was already into it. He wanted to make sure that it would happen he would grasp everything that he could to save Leila.
“It might now work, Hunter. And this might endanger her life more… or the one who will do the ritual, too.” Uncle Bob warned him.
Myrtle gasped as she went beside him.
“D-Don’t tell me… You are thinking that Uncle…” Myrtle worriedly interjected.
Uncle Bob looked at her.
“We have no other choice. That is the only thing that could save her life, Myrtle.” Uncle Bob replied before looking at me.
He stared at me dangerously.
“You must decide on this, Hunter. You need to be in that ritual. You need to bite her… and make her a werewolf.”
His lips ajar at the revelation that his uncle said.
However, if that was the only thing that he could do to save Leila, he would.
Hunter nodded his head with pure resolve.
“Of course. Tell me what I should do. I will do it.” He said with conviction.
“But…” Myrtle uttered unsure.
He knew what she was worried about but Hunter was already sure of his decision.
“I need to save her. I will save her.” That was the only thing that he uttered because it was what he wanted to do.
He is willing to give up his like right now for Leila.
