Chapter 16
Reflected
***
“Are you sure that this is, okay?” Leila shyly asked Myrtle as she looked at her through the mirror connected to the vanity table.
Mrytle Blinch-Black.
Now, she had already met her. She is Hector’s wife. She couldn’t believe that a kind and gorgeous woman like her could be that rude man’s wife.
She scoffed mentally. However, how could she blame her anyway? Love might be truly blind, huh?
“Of course, dear. I have spare clothes here for a party.” She replied merrily.
Leila mentally heaved a deep sigh.
It’s been two days since she arrived at the Moon Howlers Pack community. And a birthday party will be happening tonight for one of the betas of the pack Baxon Fern as well as Hunter’s cousin.
She met him a while ago, and she might say that the man is definitely a flirt. He is oozing with the playboy air in him which she hates the most.
Leila mentally heaved a deep sigh. She was contemplating whether or not to attend the party or just stay in her room. However, she needed to compromise. She was staying under their roof, and she needed to go and socialize.
Besides, it seemed like there were some sort of positions in the pack. And Baxon seemed to have a high position. She mentally thought about it when Myrtle explained it to her a while ago.
The Alpha is the one who rules the pack, and the Luna is the wife. The betas are some sort of alpha’s second in command, and they were also the ones training the ‘pup,’ or the newbies. Baxon is one of the trainees and the second in command.
And the sentinels, who were the ones who were guarding the entire pack they could be soldiers if she might add together with the hunters but their main duty was to get the pack some food to eat for them to live.
Lastly, the lowest form of them were the omegas, or the servants. They were the ones who served those who were in higher positions.
All of those were just some of the things that Myrtle told her. All in all, she was just enjoying her new environment. She was just hoping that those rogues wouldn’t stay any longer.
Rouges or so-called the bad werewolves.
They were the ones who had no packs to go, or they had been stripped of their packs. The rebels, the bad guys, the enemies.
And she didn’t know what they wanted from her. Why do they have to go to her house? What do they need from her?
There were lots of questions popping into her mind, but she couldn’t find any answers well, not… for now. But she would do everything to know why and to end this once and for all.
Besides, Hector told her that she might go home once their parents arrived from their journey. She didn’t know whether it was a better thing or not.
They needed to go and check their allies’ condition because of some important matters which they disclosed so well.
She pouted just thinking about it. Especially when Hector pulled her aside a while ago and told her that she might now tell anyone about what she discovered.
Leila just rolled her eyes at him and told him not to worry about anything because her lips were sealed. Besides, who would believe her anyway? And if someone believed her, she wouldn’t want to disclose that information, not to the ones who had saved her life.
She might be nosy, but she also knew how to keep her mouth shut about this kind of crucial information.
However, maybe it was better for her not to know more about it though. Her curiosity was intensifying especially that…
Leila blushed profusely when a familiar face flashed through her mind. She swallowed hard.
“There you go, dear. You look so stunning already!” Myrtle excitedly exclaimed after she finished doing her black, long, wavy hair into a half ponytail where some parts of it were braided.
Myrtle’s words pulled her back to reality. She blinked her eyes twice before looking at her reflection in the mirror on the vanity table. Myrtle did her hair and told her to just put on some face powder and lip balm.
True to her words simplicity is truly a reflection of beauty.
She liked it, though. She smiled shyly.
“Thank you…” She sincerely told her.
Myrtle just gave her a wide smile.
“Go on and change. The party will start soon.” She kindly said.
And like an obedient puppy, she followed her words. She couldn’t deny the fact that it’s been years since she last wore this kind of clothing.
She couldn’t believe that she could manage to wear that kind of clothing after all these years. She was more of a shirt and jeans kind of girl, and wearing a dress right now was making her uncomfortable.
She pursed her lips together trying to stop herself from biting her lips.
“See? It suits you well. You’re gorgeous, Leila.” Myrtle smiled and praised her.
Leila sincerely smiled at her.
“You look spectacular yourself, Myrtle.” She returned with a shy smile.
“I just don’t think I can carry myself like you do.” She murmured honestly.
She was wearing a combination of purple and white keyhole neckline floral skater dress that falls flowy just above her knees. It fitted her hourglass body perfectly. It’s a good thing that Myrtle’s white flat gladiator sandals fit her size, so she let her borrow them for tonight.
“Oh, come on, it’s a matter of confidence. You are lovely, Leila. You must be ashamed of it.” She kindly commented.
Leila heaved a deep sigh.
Surely, Myrtle could say something like that. She’s totally carrying herself confidently. With her white shirtdress paired with a white closed shoe, she looked so simply, but could be compared to a beauty queen.
She felt like she was just a maidservant beside her. She couldn’t really find the confidence inside her.
They walked together outside the house towards the vast land of the pack.
Her eyes sparkled as she saw the fairy lights that were placed around. It seemed like her mind was now lost in the ambiance of the entire place. It looked so magical and fascinating. The houses might be old-fashioned, but the pack was living in a modernized one.
~ “The houses made by our ancestors are truly better and cozier than the ones built today.” ~
She remembered that Myrtle told her so.
There were people playing some sort of instrument, and tables and chairs were scattered around.
“Hector! Hunter!” Myrtle cheerfully yelled as she waved her hand up into the air.
Leila’s heart instantly pounded so fast inside her chest. She hadn’t seen Hunter yet, but she had this kind of reaction already.
‘What the hell, Leila…’ She castigated herself mentally.
She walked behind Myrtle as they went towards their designated table. She didn’t have the courage to look around now, so she just slightly bowed her head down.
Leila swallowed hard when Myrtle stopped.
“You look so fabulous, Honey.” She could hear Hector whisper towards Myrtle, and the latter blushed like a tomato.
“Hector…” Myrtle shyly reprimanded Hector while smiling widely at her husband.
“Oh, anyway, Leila, come sit here…” Myrtle invited her happily and tapped the chair just beside her.
Leila instantly sat down without looking at anyone at the table. She could feel the heaviness in their stares causing her to feel more embarrassed.
“Why are you looking down?” A cold and familiar voice suddenly commented causing her to look up to him.
Hunter Black looked so dashing in his simple dark blue shirt. His sleeves were folded up at his elbows. His hair was messy, but it just made him look hotter.
He was just sitting across from her. Leila swallowed hard before looking away. But there was something in him that was making her look back at him.
She met his deep ocean blue eyes, and it was as if they were hypnotizing her.
“Hey, you two! Aren’t you going to dance?” Hector suddenly stated making her eyes widen in complete embarrassment and shock.
“Just go on, Hector. Don’t ruin this night.” Hunter seriously replied before looking away.
Leila bit her lower lip as she slightly lowered her head. Truly, Hector and Myrtle walked towards the dance floor as a sweet song resonated in the entire place.
Leila tried to look at them, they looked like they truly loved each other like nothing mattered to them. She felt a tinge of jealousy tugging inside her chest.
‘Would I ever find someone who would look at me that way?’ She mentally inquired.
Then, her eyes moved towards Hunter, who was looking at Hector and Myrtle, too. However, there’s something in his eyes…
Something like…
Sadness… Longingness… and jealousy?
‘Why would there be such a thing reflecting in his eyes?’
Leila’s thought bugged her so much that she felt a tinge of pain inside her as a tiny hint crossed her mind.
