Chapter 10
Hurt
***
“I need you to do something.” Hudson said using his serious and cold tone.
Hunter was all ears at his father’s words. He surely wouldn’t want to miss any of it.
Right after his brother’s wedding, he instantly went towards their house. He didn’t want to be seen with his parents more with Myrtle and Hector. It was too awkward for him to see the curious eyes of the people in their pack again.
He let out a sigh inside his head.
Apparently, his father decided to go home right after, too. So, that only means that this was something important. He was just too curious as to what it was.
He had been away from the pack for a bit long and only Butler Henry was the one who visited the pack. He didn’t want to go home, as he tried to live independently.
“What is it, Dad?” He coldly inquired as he looked at him with his serious eyes.
Alpha Hudson let out a deep sigh. He looked a bit problematic despite his grim expression.
Now, he felt like he needed someone to help him with this.
“A lot of our allies had been eradicated. And I still don’t know who they are. All of the gathered information about them was all general. That they are some rogue packs from the South and nothing more. We need more of it something deeper than that.” He disappointedly explained.
“This is getting out of hand.” He added as he slightly shook his head.
He was certainly shocked as he looked at him weighing down his father’s stand on that matter. He had heard it firsthand from Butler Henry, but he couldn’t believe that it was getting worse now. He thought that this was just a simple rebellious action from the rogues, but it seemed like it was far more worst than that.
Surely, being the Alpha of the leading pack here, the Moon Howlers Pack was a huge responsibility to take on. They were the chosen leaders of their allies, and now this was happening to them.
He heaved a deep sigh.
Honestly, his father’s responsibility was truly massive giving them his children a heavier burden to handle.
But Hunter didn’t mind it at all. In fact, he was always wanting this chance to be laid out, and this was his time to prove himself.
To prove that he also had the guts and the capability to become his son not just a mere shadow of him and his brother. He clenched his hands over his thoughts.
“I want you to go with Bruno. You need to investigate what the hell is happening… discreetly.” Hudson ominously replied.
Hunter couldn’t believe what he had just heard. He couldn’t believe how his father was entrusting this kind of responsibility to him. It was making him feel ecstatic.
However, before he could even accept his order, the door suddenly burst wide open.
“Dad!”
His older brother went inside unannounced causing their father to snarl at him. But Hector didn’t even flinch a bit. In fact, he equaled their father’s annoyed expression.
“What brings you here, Hector? You must be out and entertain your guest.” Hudson strictly said as he gave him a deadly glare.
“Hunter is not yet ready for this. This is so dangerous. I thought I already made it clear to you, Dad.” He worriedly said ignoring their father’s warning glare.
His forehead creased as his jaw clenched. No matter how much he tried to pinpoint that his brother might just be so concerned for his safety, he just couldn’t. He couldn’t stop himself from thinking that it was as if he was also belittling his capability. Or he wanted this chance again…
“I can do this.” He menacingly stated using his hard and cold tone of voice.
Hector looked at him worriedly.
“But-”
He heaved a deep sigh.
“I can do this. So, stop treating me like a child.” He gritted his teeth at that before looking at their father, who was just listening to their argument.
“You can trust me with this, Dad. I can do it.” Hunter added giving assurance to his father.
He didn’t want to blow this one out. He wanted this no, he needed this to prove himself. However, before he could even utter his decision, a cold and serious voice interrupted them.
“And what if you won’t be able to control your inner wolf again, Hunter?” Hera interjected as she let her presence be known.
Their heads moved towards the Luna of their pack their mother, who was now wearing a pissed expression on her face.
From the looks of it, she might have heard everything that they had been talking about. Now, this would be a challenge for Hunter knowing that their mother wouldn’t agree to his decision to go.
“Hector is right, Hunter. This is just too dangerous for you. I can allow you to go, son.” Hera seriously added hoping for him to listen to her.
He clenched his fists as his insides disagreed with what his mother and brother said. He knew that he could do this, but they just couldn’t give their trust on him.
“But I know that I can do this. This time, I can already control myself.” He assured them.
However, deep inside him, he knew that he also had a tinge of hesitance about his decision, for he couldn’t be hundred percent sure that he could really control his inner wolf because he couldn’t… and he still can’t.
“Dad, just let me do this.” He insisted as he stared at his father hopingly.
“I know. But your life is more important than this, Hunter. Please, just drop this.” Hera explained afraid that her son would still go down the path where he might face his tragic demise.
This wasn’t just a simple task to do. It could be a life-or-death situation even though it could only mean that Hunter needed to dig up some deeper information.
Hudson remained silent as he weighed down every word from them. However, Hera couldn’t just wait for his decision, which might reconsider her son’s life.
“Hudson, you must not agree to this. I already told you to let the sentinels investigate. Don’t put your sons’ lives into all of this.” Hera warnedly stated causing their father to let out a low scoff.
“And what should I do, then? Our allies are slowly being eradicated. If we don’t act fast, all of them will be gone, and we are going to be hated, or worse part of the other pack’s target. I know that you knew this very well, Hera.”
Hera pursed her lips together. Hunter and Hector just watched their parents silently for they didn’t wanna be put in the spotlight. Their parents might be contradictory at times, and they must keep their mouths shut and swallow their own thoughts and opinions.
“So, you’re saying that you’re gonna bet one of your sons’ lives to prove your loyalty to our allies, is that it?” Hera viciously claimed.
Silence filled the air. However, the unadulterated ferocity and rage between their parents added to the sizzling tension that was surrounding them making it a bit heavier to bear.
“Fine.” His father finally decided.
“Let’s just drop this conversation and let the sentinels investigate in the meantime.” Hudson continued.
However, Hunter couldn’t just blow his chance away not now. He knew that his mother would be very furious once she found out, but he just couldn’t let this pass. This was a chance, and it was already knocking on his door. He would be such a fool if he let this slip through his fingers.
In that eerie and dark place, he moved like a feather in the woods. He nodded at Bruno, his father’s butler and second in command, as well as one of their family’s loyal betas.
They slowly moved towards the group of rogues lurking suspiciously around the Middle Riverstone Pack the pack where Myrtle originated from.
After hearing his father’s decision, he discreetly talked to him and asked him to come with Bruno during the investigation. His father was indecisive about it, but how could he ever prohibit him from going if he had already initiated this.
Hunter couldn’t just let this chance slip away more of when he discovered the worse things that were happening to the other packs. Most of their allies were also being targeted by this unknown group of rogues, and he must find out why and who they were working for.
“The boss will surely be glad once we kill each of them.” One of the rogues said as they laughed viciously.
His inner wolf became restless as he heard those words. He couldn’t believe how affected he was. And before he knew it, their team was already attacking the rogues, who were about to launch their attack, too. He let his inner wolf consume him as he turned into his wolf form.
Everything just happened too fast. His skills as a werewolf could even come close to his father’s and brother’s… most especially if he was this furious.
However, he must have been blinded by his own emotions if he hadn’t dodged the attack from a raging rogue from his left side.
He let out a loud growl as three huge and deep wounds dug deep into his skin, down to his muscles. He knew that he had hit hard this time.
Blood started to creep down from his shoulder to his arm as pain started to linger inside him.
