Chapter 43: The Last Conflict Starts
Melissa’s POV
The air was thick with anxiety, and the night was strangely quiet. My heart was racing as I stood at the edge of the battlefield, staring at the pack that had collected around me. With Kane at my side, I felt strengthened by his constant presence.
“This is it,” I said, my voice echoing over the assembly. “We are stronger because we stand by one another, even when Damon’s forces are strong. For our households. For our future.
The pack growled in unison, their determination equaling mine. I held the dagger in my palm and inhaled deeply.
“Are the scouts in place, Kane?” I asked, maintaining a steady tone.
Kane said, “They are.” It covers the flanks. All we need is your signal.
I gave a nod. “Then let’s proceed. Whatever occurs, we fight together.
With the pack moving together, we pressed ahead. The sound of screams and growls filled the surrounding forest as Damon’s army appeared out of the darkness. The roars and screams of wolves and other dark animals tore through the darkness as they clashed.
It was a chaotic conflict. As I made my way through the battle, my senses grew more acute, and I used all my training and the goddess’s strength to maintain my position.
“Hey, Melissa! Behind you! Kane’s voice was heard.
I whirled just in time to stop one of Damon’s shadow monsters from attacking. With a surge of force, I sent it falling as its claws brushed against my blade.
“Thank you!” Kane was already heading into another brawl when I yelled at him.
As the conflict continued, it became evident that Damon’s forces were not like any we had ever encountered. They were so numerous that it seemed like another one would appear every time we defeated one.
“We can’t continue like this, Melissa!” One of the fighters yelled.
I clenched my teeth and resisted giving up. “Remain calm! To get to Damon, we must buy time!
In the midst of the confusion, I eventually saw him. Damon stood in the middle of the battlefield, surrounded by a gloomy aura. The second relic, shining with a sinister light, was in his palm.
“Damon, you won’t prevail!” I yelled and pushed my way in his direction.
He smiled cruelly as he turned to face me. “Oh, Melissa. Have you come to see your priceless pack end?
I threw myself at him, the goddess’ energy rushing through me, and our powers clashed. The impact of Damon’s dark magic blast, which he used in response to my strike, shook the ground beneath us.
With a tone full of derision, Damon remarked, “You’re stronger than I expected.” “But it won’t be sufficient.”
“I’m not scared of you,” I stated firmly. “No longer.”
Each of us pushed the boundaries of our talents in a furious combat. Despite Damon’s tremendous influence, I resisted giving up. I retaliated with all I had each time he struck, determined to keep my infant and my pack safe.
Damon’s tone darkened as he replied, “You’re stubborn.” However, you are unable to ignore the reality. Melissa, look around you. You’re losing your pack.
My heart sank when I looked at the battlefield and saw how many lives were being lost in the conflict. Some of the warriors I had fought with were barely surviving.
I turned back to face him and remarked, “They’re not giving up.” “And I’m not either.”
We could hear Damon laughing. “Stupid to the very end. However, it’s time I demonstrated what true power looks like.
Damon flicked his wrist, lifting the second relic into the air. As the glow grew stronger, the battlefield was illuminated menacingly.
“What are you doing?” With a hint of terror in my voice, I demanded.
Damon grinned broadly. “This artefact is more than just a destructive tool. It is a weapon made to destroy all supernatural creatures. You, Melissa, and your unborn kid are all included in that.
The air from my lungs as his words struck me like a blow.
“No,” I said in a whisper while shaking my head. “You’re telling lies.”
“Oh, it’s the truth, I promise you,” Damon answered icily. “And neither you nor the goddess you serve will remain after I’m finished.”
I gripped my dagger tighter, my determination to face the fear growing stronger.
With a calm voice, I said, “You won’t get away with this.”
Damon grinned. “We’ll see.”
The glow from the artefact burst into a dazzling brightness that surrounded us before I could respond.
Panic gripped me as I shielded my eyes. Was this the last time?
“Elissa!” The faint echo of Kane’s voice could be heard in the distance.
After that, there was silence.
