* * * * * Crystal’s POV * * * * *
Before I went to bed that night, I called my step parents and informed them that I would come and pick Aidan early in the morning.
Once I hear the cockcrow, I will carry my luggages, pick up Aidan and say goodbye to the city. I might never come back here again to avoid Alpha Logan Stewart finding us. I would die before he kills my son.
As I went to bed that night, my whole body ached due to the terrible day I had. Logan had really caused me a lot of stress.
The next morning when I woke up, I quickly took a bath, got dressed in a simple gown and headed to my step parents house with my luggages.
I know they are going to be sad that I am leaving, but I have to go. It’s important that I do.
Michael tried to call me a few more times the previous night but I had ignored his calls, and at a point switched off my phone.
I will call him after I leave the city else he might succeed in making me change my mind.
I arrived at my step parents house and for some weird reason it felt like Michael had come there.
The door was open so I let myself in without knocking, I met my step parents discussing in the sitting-room.
My stepmom was the first to see me, she stood up immediately and met me halfway through the little stairs after the threshold.
“Hi Mum-two!” I said and forced a smile.
I did not want them to be worried about me while I’m gone.
“Listen Crystal, I am sorry but I don’t think you can leave the city with Aidan,” she announced.
I was surprised. How did she know that I was traveling with Aidan?
I never mentioned it to any of them, I had only told them that I would come and pick Aidan up this morning.
Hmm… Maybe I had told her last night when I called, my mind was pretty messed up so I can’t remember.
“Why not mum? Why can’t I leave with him?” I queried.
“Because he’s very sick Crystal, he cannot travel in this condition. It is too dangerous for his health,” my step dad said and also came to me.
What? How is that possible?
I’m pretty sure they cooked it up so that I won’t leave.
“Mum and Dad, I don’t think it’s anything serious, I’ll go and see for myself. Aidan!!” I called out.
“He is lying in your room Crystal, I already massaged him with some cold water to calm down his fever,” Mum-two said.
What?
How is that even possible?
I ran up the stairs to my former room and found Aidan laying under a blanket.
I quickly put my hand on his forehead and my eyes widened as I realized how hot it was.
He was running a high fever, how did that suddenly happen?
When I left the previous day, he was doing just fine with no symptoms of illness, so how did he suddenly fall sick.
My step parents joined me in the room.
“Mum, what happened to him? He was alright yesterday.”
“Yes Crystal, but when we came to see him this morning, he was shivering on his bed. I had already called the doctor and he left a few minutes ago,” she said.
I was still puzzled on how his health went from ninety-nine to twenty.
“I still need to go Mum, I already got a refund for my rent and so I need to leave with Aidan,” I said.
“What are you saying Crystal? I don’t know why you want to leave the city but does his life not matter to you?” My stepdad queried.
“Of course my son’s life is my priority and that’s exactly why I am leaving the city,” I replied
“How does that even make sense? You are putting his life at risk by traveling with him in this condition, I mean look Crystal, his situation is critical!” My stepmom yelled.
I was confused. What am I supposed to do now? I had already made all the necessary arrangements to travel.
“But Mum, I had already moved out of my apartment, where…”
“Are you really going to ask me about Crystal? This is your room and you are always welcome here, it’s necessary that you stay back for a few days so that Aidan can get better.”
I looked at the face of my little child and I felt like shedding tears, his face had gone pale.
“Mum, has the doctor given him any treatment yet?” I asked
“Yes Crystal, he had also prescribed some drugs you should buy, the list is downstairs,” she replied.
I thought about it and I didn’t see any more options. Aidan was really down with a high fever, I guess I should do as my step parents had said and wait for a few more days.
“Alright Mum, I will go and get the drugs then I would move my things up here, but only for a few days. Once Aidan is in good health, I would have to leave the city.”
“That’s exactly what you should do, traveling out of the city could worsen his health at this stage,” Dad added.
As I turned to leave the room, I suddenly paused and turned back to face them. I had two questions that were bothering me.
“Mum, did Michael come here today?” I queried
“No, not at all!” She replied in a sputter of words.
Why do I get the feeling that something is not right here?
I clearly did not tell them that I was leaving the city because I was scared the idea would not go down well with them, so how did they find out before I got here?
Then his health, how come with his sudden depreciation of health?
My Aidan was very healthy yesterday, I even checked on him before I left and now he was feeling a bit over the weather.
There was something definitely strange going on here.
I climbed down the stairs and found the list as they had mentioned, it was on the round table in the sitting room.
Strangely, the list looks like it was written by my stepmom, it was her handwriting.
I thought doctors are supposed to do the writing by themselves, rather than detect for the patient’s family.
Everything just seems wrong today. I would have been on the bus leaving the city right now but for the sake of my baby, I am compelled to stay for a few more days.
To be continued!!
