Crystal was shocked when he introduced himself as a vampire. During her childhood, she had heard a lot about vampires. They were sworn enemies to the werewolves.
Her mother had told her one time that vampires are evil and should not be related with.
With all the terrible stories she heard about them, Crystal had grown up with the mentality that they were evil creatures, but how could this handsome young man sitting before her be a vampire?
He was kind, easygoing, sweet to be around and all, so how could he be one?
She was terrified amidst the state of bafflement.
“Listen Crystal, I know you are scared but there is no need for you to be. Vampires are not bad at all, we are just like every other species on Earth, it’s only that people despise what they fear and we are usually feared,” he explained
Crystal did not say anything. She was still frightened, knowing that she was sitting in the same room with a vampire, not just sitting in the same room but eating from the same table with one.
She looked towards her step parents in order to know their reaction, but it looked like they were too occupied with their food to be interested in the young adult’s discussion.
The oldies were not even looking in their direction, they just sat at their own end, making their own small discussion and eating their meal. To Crystal, it seemed like they were in an entirely different world.
Crystal wondered if they didn’t hear Michael’s words or maybe it was something casual to them. But how can sitting in the same room with a vampire be a casual thing to a werewolf?
Well that was the least of our worries, right now she was scared of the blood-sucking nightwalker sitting beside her.
“Crystal, don’t forget you promised that you would not panic If I told you my secret. I am telling you the truth, vampires are not bad at all, the idea of vampires is being evil is just a misconception,”
Michael was trying so hard to convince her. He knew he needed to win her over if he must succeed with his plans.
Crystal thought about it a second time. So what if people said vampires were evil? She had never experienced or seen any of their evil deeds with her own eyes.
Now she was a lady who had grown up not caring about what people said or thought. People’s opinion had never really bothered her in life, if she listened to everything they said then she wouldn’t have lived this long.
Also she came to think of it. This young man saved her life from the very same people who condemned him- human!
They claim to be saints, but it was them who always made life difficult for her, and today… It was one of them that attacked her and a vampire that is considered evil actually saved her life. So who is the real evil being now? What an irony?
She realized that it was wrong to condemn him because of his species. So what if he’s a vampire? He is still kind and better than most humans and wolves she had come across.
“You are right Mike, I am really sorry. It’s just that I was a little spooked by the news, I don’t despise or condemn your kind,” she smiled
Michael’s face lit up in excitement. He was glad to hear those words come out from her mouth.
“It’s okay Crystal, I’m just glad that you don’t hate me because of the awful stories people tell about vampires,” he replied with a smile, revealing the gap in between his two upper teeth
Crystal’s step parents were through with their dinner, they excused themselves and left the young adults in the dining room.
Now it was just Crystal and Michael left there. Michael was almost done with his meal, but the sluggish crystal hadn’t gone halfway.
“Michael, I do have a few questions. They are quite awkward but I am really curious to hold back, can I ask you?”
“Um… Sure! Go ahead,” Michael permitted, wearing an anxious face.
Crystal as a kid had always been puzzled about the existence of vampires. She had a lot of questions about them but she couldn’t ask her parents because they would not hear the word vampire in their house.
Since she was sitting beside an actual vampire right now, she thought it would be nice to satisfy her curiosity by asking him a few questions.
“So I have heard that sunlight weakens vampires. Is that true?” She queried
The Young vampire chuckled a bit after hearing her question. He was actually expecting something different, that’s why he was scared.
“Sunlight doesn’t weaken vampires, rather you can say that intense sunlight can cause damage to their skin,” he replied
“So then, how do you guys manage to survive in the daytime? I mean, the sun is out almost every afternoon?” She asked with a little smile
“Yes, that is why we wear clothings that can shield us from the sun’s harsh rays and some prefer to stay in all day and come out at night,” he explained.
Crystal wondered what it would feel like to stay inside for the whole day. It certainly would be boring, and when the person comes out at night, who exactly is he out to see. The normal humans would be asleep by then.
She was going to ask him why they feed on blood, but she did not want this to get any more awkward than it already was.
She also wanted to know how vampires mate, she has had strange things in the past about their mating process, but just like the first question, she decided to reserve it for the future. She believed that this wouldn’t be their last meeting.
“Okay, that’s quite interesting. So what do you do for a living?”
“I assist my dad in his company, he’s actually setting up a branch here in California,” Michael answered.
“Wow… that is nice! So what about food, are there food items that vampires don’t eat or do you feed like normal humans?”
Crystal was really curious to know more about vampires. Everything about their tribe felt like a mystery to her.
“Well, it depends on the type of Vampire. There are majorly three types of Vampires, the first is the progenitors- They are immortals, the ancestors of all other vampires. They are very rare and never come out in the daytime, those ones can only consume life energy which they can’t get from human food.”
Crystal felt a little bit of fear after she heard that. She knew he meant living things like humans, but since he was eating human food it was obvious he wasn’t one of them.
“Now the other two types of vampires are more common, they are either born of a vampire or turned by one. Now these two categories can eat human food if they wish, but they might have trouble with bulb vegetables like garlic and too much onion. From a mild irritation to a lethal allergy,” he explained
Crystal was impressed with the way he spoke. She was also attracted by his open-minded nature.
She had expected him to be hesitant when answering her questions, but he didn’t try to hide or keep anything away from her. In fact, he answered all her questions honestly, holding back no little detail.
The both of them had a nice dinner, after which Michael bade her goodbye and left for his house.
Crystal for the first time, felt like she had found a friend. She was glad to meet him and hoped they would meet again in the near future.
