CHAPTER 128
LILY’S POV
~ “I said now!” I yelled at them. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”
They both jumped in fear. Liam gave Robert a quick hug before they raced to their room like they were being chased by a monster.
After I heard them shut their door, I faced Robert because I didn’t want them to witness what was about to happen. ~
“You have some nerves showing up at my kids’ school and pulling them from their classes even after I warned you not to get any close to them,” I said, my eyes burning into him with murderous intent. At this point, if Noah proposed we hire an assassin to take him out again, I’ll pass it in a heartbeat because I’ve had just about enough of him.
“Still, that isn’t enough reason for you to do this,” he said, gesturing toward the mess I made on the floor. His frustration was evident, and judging by the look on his face, what I did really got to him. Just exactly what I wanted.
But I couldn’t help snorting in disbelief, a scornful smirk curving the side of my lips. “Seriously? We’re talking about something important yet you’re more concerned about some stupid toys? After all these years, do you think you can buy their love with a chunk of plastic?…”
“I’m not trying to buy their love,” he countered, his jaw tightening. “Those toys cost a fortune and they like them very much. I’m only but a desperate father working his butt off to make up for all that time I spent away from them. Say whatever you want, think whatever you want, hate and mock me for as long as you like but you can’t keep me away from my kids forever.”
“You never cease to amuse me,” I cackled hysterically, my loud laugh bouncing off the walls of the room which now seemed too small to contain the two of us. “So, now you consider them your kids? Like seriously?… After everything that happened? After you threatened to withhold my contract payment until I have flushed them from my system? After you left me to rot in prison, not caring about what I went through to conceive and raise them?…”
I reiterated everything I said so he’d remember in case he had forgotten because he was too hung up on Scarlett and her precious pregnancy he forgot my existence.
He ran his fingers through his hair and looked away in a mix of frustration and regret.
“You are a disgrace, Robert,” I hurled at him spitefully, my tone venomous. “I see what you’re trying to do but I can assure you I won’t let it happen. I won’t sit back and watch you come into their lives like you deserve it because you don’t. I won’t let you take them from me…”
“Quit acting like a lunatic, Lily,” he looked back at me, his features crinkling incredulously. “I’m not here to do any of that…”
But I didn’t let him finish whatever nonsense he had to spill. His sharp replies and indifferent attitude only fueled my anger, my temper reaching its breaking point. With a frustrated growl, I lunged at him, grabbing his collar and shoving him back until his back hit the wall with a thud. The impact sent a few pictures and a mosaic painting made from shiny glass pieces crashing to the floor. But I couldn’t care less as my fiery gaze burned into him.
“You think this is a joke uhh?…”
“For the love of Christ, please stop this madness, Lily,” Nana Mae pleaded in a desperate tone from behind me, interrupting me. “Leave that man alone. He has done nothing wrong for you to be treating him like this…”
“You’d better stay out of this, granny, or else you’ll be next,” I snarled, casting her a disdainful glare.
She gasped in shock, her hand flying up to palm her chest. “Did you just insult and threaten me?”
“If you’re too dumb to understand it, then you can go ahead and believe whatever you want,” I snickered coldly.
She let out another gasp, louder, more intense and hurtful than the first one like I just shattered a huge fraction of her heart. But then again, I couldn’t care less. Ever since she started working for me, I hadn’t once disrespected or talked to her like that. But my entire being was consumed with unbridled anger, making it impossible for me to think clearly.
She should have just gone and stayed with the kids instead of getting herself involved. Noah was there too. Although sharing in my anger and ready to help me put Robert in his place if he tried anything funny, he didn’t do anything to get in my way like before. He was wise enough to know this was a battle between me and my ex-husband. I expected Nana Mae to do the same, but instead, she chose to interfere, so I shouldn’t feel guilty for how I treated her.
“You know what? I quit!” Her hand jerked to the back of her waist as she untied her apron and furiously threw it on the floor.
I snickered at her scornfully before looking in Noah’s direction.
“Noah, please see her out,” I said, making wave after wave of shock crash over Nana Mae.
Noah wanted to say something but his indecisiveness made the words knot in his throat, not agreeing to let loose and come out. He just let out a sigh and proceeded to do what I asked of him.
“Don’t bother,” Nana Mae said firmly, like one holding onto the last shred of her dignity. “I have been working here for the past two years. I know my way to the door.”
She looked at me, her eyes glistening with hurtful disappointment. “I was wrong to think of you as a daughter. You’ve changed so much over these past few weeks I can barely recognize what you’ve become. If you keep up with this attitude, not only will your kids hate you but you also going to end up alone, feeling miserable and regretting your entire life.” She finished before furiously matching towards the exit.
