Damon’s POV:
I lay in bed with my arms wrapped around Sherry. After the little talk our wolves had, they gave us back control, and I took that chance to be with my mate. I lifted her up and went with her to our bedroom, laying down and holding her in my arms.
There were no more words shared between us, just warmth.
I shifted and pulled away from her when a knock sounded at the door. She sat upright and rubbed my back gently.
Since knowing and understanding why I had acted that way, she was giving me supportive gestures without a word, and that made me feel so much better.
“Come in,” I answered.
Maggie walked in with Xiao by his side.
“What now?” I asked coldly.
“Alpha, I don’t really know how bad your situation was with my past Luna, but I can vouch for her that she’s not in a good place,” he said, then continued.
“When Luna Debby first came into our pack, she was one of pride and happiness. The Alpha met her on his hunt and instantly knew that she was his mate. He wasted no time in mating with her and brought her to the pack. Everyone was happy over the news and relieved because our alpha was more of a psycho. He easily snapped at things, and whenever he was angered, he severely punished the person. He also drank too much and spent most of his time in bed with both mated and unmated she-wolves. When Debby Luna joined our pack, it was like a new light shining into the darkness. She was kind and did her best to make our Alpha happy, until he found out how she once mated with you,” he said, then closed his eyes and opened them.
“Our Alpha went from bad to horrible. Whenever she spoke up for someone or spoke up to him, he hit her badly to the point of passing out. He had women serve him in her presence and forced himself on her every time he got drunk. To break her even more, he slaughtered the people she came with, the ones she considered as her very own family and pack members. So far, the Luna has miscarried six times, and the last pup she gave birth to was stillborn. The once happy, kind, and proud Luna was reduced to nothing. Now she is so fearful of him and his Beta that she usually walks with her face lowered to the ground,” he said sadly.
“She has nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Whenever the alpha heard that there was someone related to her in another territory, he sent his beta to kill them. He even began controlling what she wore and how she spoke. The woman you see is the shell of what our Luna has become. She does nothing besides cry, beg, and kneel to his mercy. I even doubt if the child she is carrying will be born alive,” he said as I angrily stood up from the bed.
“Karma sure is lovely, don’t you think?” I asked as he dropped his jaw.
What exactly was he expecting me to do? Take pity on that bitch.
“Look, Xiao, I understand you feel sad and pity for that whore, but don’t lump me together with you, okay? That bitch…” I cut my sentence short then took off my mask, dropping it to the ground. His face instantly turned pale.
“I understand that I was at fault for ambushing her pack back then and killing her people for fun and wealth, but I had no idea they were her people. When she came to me with her so-called family, she was aiming to kill me, but as fate had it, we turned out to be mates. Do you know how well I treated that trash? I loved and cared for her. If she had told me about her past, I could have spent my days and life atoning for my sins, but no, that wasn’t in her plans,” I said loudly.
“She never let me hold her whenever I wanted closure, and she was very cold towards me. As a token of her anger, she left this scar on me and crippled most of my warriors. She killed pups and elders of my pack by setting everything on fire while her family drove knives into my drunk men’s hearts. It took me a lot of years to rebuild this place and let go of the pain I felt deep within my heart!” I yelled, then pointed at Sherry.
“It took meeting her to heal my broken heart. Because of her, I got to feel what true love is and how amazing it felt to have a loving and caring mate. She made me a better man and Alpha, and no matter what, I will forever love her. I told that bitch if we ever cross paths, I was going to kill her, so she should be happy that I’m holding myself back. Tomorrow morning when I wake up, I should find that trash taken out of my pack. Better still, do it now,” I said furiously.
“Alpha, what good is returning bad for bad?” Maggie asked in a low voice.
“Oh no, Maggie. It’s not returning bad for bad. She chose her bed, now let her lie in it, and I chose mine. There is nothing you and I can do about it now. She has a mate, and karma is the one biting down on her,” I said, then looked at Sherry, who moved from the bed and stood by my side.
“I understand your pain, Damon, because I too would want Neo and Ian dead. But again, thinking carefully about everything, I would gladly go through it all if it leads me to meeting you,” she said softly as I held her hands in mine.
“She is right,” my wolf said softly.
We both hated our first mate and wanted nothing to do with her, but on the other hand, it was she who opened the door to our happiness. If not for my first mate’s betrayal to me and my pack, I could have been in a sad relationship with her while trying my best to please her, yet feeling belittled and lonely. It was she who opened the door to meeting Sherry, and now I was so happy and over the moon to have her in my life.
I leaned in and kissed her forehead lightly.
“I love you,” I whispered softly.
She wrapped her hands around my waist and rested her head against my chest.
I moved my hand and wrapped it around her waist, while my other hand brushed her hair gently.
“Where is the bitch?” I asked seriously.
“She’s at the pack’s clinic being attended to by a healer,” Maggie answered.
“Very well, I’ll go and meet her right now,” I said softly, then gave Sherry a light kiss on her head.
This was going to be the only act of kindness I was going to show an enemy.
