Damon’s POV:
“What?” Sherry asked with a smile on her face.
“Nothing,” I answered, then grabbed her hand, gently stroking it.
A few days had gone by since the guys came to ask for help, and since then, she had been so happy.
She was joyous and did things cheerfully. Whenever we talked, she could sense her wolf within her, but her wolf had no strength to communicate with her. She pointed out that it was just a matter of time until she got her wolf back.
That was supposed to make me feel happy, but it didn’t. It actually scared me a lot because I had no idea how she would react to my scar.
Would it disturb her or scare her?
“She loves us, and she isn’t like other she-wolves,” my wolf growled. He was displeased by my thoughts.
“You know, loving someone has nothing to do with fearing them or finding them disturbing. She loves us for what is inside us and not what is outside. That I know, but seeing a scarred man as your lover is something else,” I answered silently, then tensed when Sherry spoke.
“The first thing I would love to see is your face when I regain my sight. Oh, I would also love to see Maggie and Alec’s,” she said, then laughed softly as I froze.
My heart was speeding up, and my throat was dry. I was very nervous.
“Damon,” she called in a whisper.
“Yes,” I answered in a cracked voice.
“What’s wrong? Are you sick? I can hear your breath, and it’s not stable,” she said in a concerned tone.
“It’s nothing,” I answered, then let go of her hand and stood up from the bedroom couch.
“Are you lying to me?” she asked in a low tone.
“No,” I answered, then cursed at myself silently.
“Damon,” she called, this time more strongly.
“Yes, I am,” I whispered sadly.
“Here,” she said, extending her hand.
I took it and sat back down next to her.
“Talk to me, please,” she urged me.
“Sherry, believe me when I say I’m so happy you will soon have your wolf back, but…” I trailed off.
“Go on,” she whispered.
“But will it be okay or worth it to see a scarred bastard like me?” I asked seriously.
I quickly grabbed her hand when she raised it and almost slapped my face.
“What! Did you just try to slap me?” I asked in surprise.
“Yes, I did. What is wrong with you?” she exclaimed with an angry frown.
“Nothing,” I answered, then let go of her hand.
“It’s not nothing if you are thinking that way!” she screamed.
“I’m insecure, okay!” I screamed back, then raised my hand to calm myself down.
“I see,” she whispered and shifted her gaze to the side.
I dropped my hand and moved it to her thigh.
“Please don’t cry. I didn’t mean to hurt or upset you. It’s just that I hate the scars I have, and I wouldn’t want you to feel the same way when you regain your sight,” I said honestly.
“Is that how you see me? A woman who cares only about outer appearance?” she asked as I shook my head.
“No, it’s not how I see you, because I know you love me a lot. But that doesn’t stop the insecurities I feel,” I answered honestly.
She looked at me, then stood up calmly.
“Well then, I’m so sorry that I didn’t tell you the truth either,” she said as I stood up, looking at her.
“Did you lie about something?” I asked, my heart beating rapidly.
“Yes,” she answered, then turned and walked to the bathroom door, opening it.
“I can walk well without help. The walls are light blue, and the towels below are light brown. The wall shelf is placed on my left side, and on the right is a mirror,” she said, leaving me shocked.
What! How? Was she seeing?
“Are you…”
“Yes, Damon. I can see everything and feel our mate pull perfectly fine,” she answered.
When she turned to look at me, I quickly moved my hand, placing it on my scar.
“It happened three days ago when I had just woken up. Although I still can’t talk to my wolf, I could feel her presence and I could see. You were sleeping peacefully that day when it happened, so I didn’t want to wake you up. But I was so happy that I could finally see your handsome sleeping face. I wondered how you would take the news if I were to tell you the truth, but my heart knew you would be so happy for me because you love me,” she said, then forced a smile on her beautiful face.
“The reason I decided to keep quiet was because I wanted to show you the whole of me, and that includes my wolf form. I wanted you to meet us and see our form. That’s why I chose to keep you in the dark and act like nothing had happened,” she said as I glared at her.
She moved closer and stood in front of me as I avoided her gaze.
It wasn’t okay for her to keep me in the dark! No wonder she was so happy whenever I took off my mask and sat by her side. It was because she could see my face.
“Alpha,” she called softly.
I hesitated but looked at her.
“I have seen your face more than once, and believe me when I say that you are handsome. That scar you have only makes you look cooler. If you were a pirate, the ladies would die in awe over how sexy you are,” she said with a warm smile as my heart fluttered.
I chuckled softly, then dropped my hand.
“There is a place I want to show you if you don’t mind,” I said simply.
She grabbed both of my hands in hers, then raised them to her lips and kissed them both.
“I would gladly follow you anywhere you go. By now, you should know that, so lead the way,” she answered.
I pulled back my hands and swept her off of her feet, walking out of our bedroom.
“It’s not far,” I whispered as I went downstairs.
I wanted her to see the hot spring that was a sight to behold. It was a peaceful place with beautiful flowers and birds chirping near it.
I had once hoped she would one day see it, and now that she could, I was going to take her there.
I was looking forward to us relaxing and spending our time bonding. Hopefully, we could even talk about our future together because I wanted it badly with her and her wolf in it.
Because her happiness was my own.
