We anchored in the mountains behind the Wood Lake pack, the stillness of the place was obvious that everyone here was asleep, Before we left I made sure to make it known to Darren that we were not there for the innocent children or women, I was never going to be a part of that.
Darren assured me that we only had to wait until we received a signal from his men who had already infiltrated the pack.
It was now two hours since we arrived and still did not hear or caught a glimpse of the signal we were said to receive, the moon up in the sky was now brightly shining down on us as we waited patiently.
” Darren, maybe your spy has been caught, I do not believe that we should stay here waiting, what happens if he does not come? We can not possibly wait all day.”
” We should wait a little more, perhaps he is on his way,” Darren argued,
But there was something wrong with this, this pack appeared to be living in peace like they were not ready for any war.
Rage to felt something was not right as we patiently waited out in the mountains, all through the night yet no one came, and we didn’t go anywhere either. Most of Darren’s men fell asleep as we waited,
” Darren it is dawn already, and we heard nothing, no signal from your man what the fuck is this!” I was pissed at this waste of time.
” Liam, I know you are angry, please relax, something must have happened to my man on the inside, I’ll send another one,”
” You are not fucking serious Darren, I cannot believe you made me waste my time on this bullshit, you know what; I am leaving,”
I stood on my feet wanting to leave that place. However, Darren tried to stop me, “Liam just a few more hours, please let’s wait only a few more hours,” he pleaded desperately which now had me thinking why he acted this way,
” There is something fishy going on,” my wolf murmurs in my head, which I agreed to. Darren acted suspiciously,
” I do not care any more Darren, you get your mess fixed, and I’ll get mine sorted out, I am not doing this!” I stomped out of his presence angrily, moved to my car, got in, and drove off,
What the fuck is wrong with that deranged family? I never should have accepted his offer, I cannot believe I thought of doing something as hideous as that with Darren. The ride back to Waterfall was a three hour drive, I decided to call my mate to check on her since I left her in a sick state, Rage also wanted to know how she was faring.
However, I could not find my phone in my car where I left it, which was odd because I remember leaving it there. Rage was restless pacing in my head, I knew something was wrong,
” Drive fast Liam, quick back to Waterfall!” My wolf yells in my head, which made my heart skip.
” What is it?” I questioned my agitated wolf who ignores me, I drove the car at full speed wanting to reach my pack quickly. The mess my wolf caused in my head was frightening, I only hoped my family was safe, especially my mate who, I think, might be pregnant with our pup.
I finally arrived at Waterfall, however I did not meet my pack in the same way I left it, dead bodies filled the road as I drove through, and smoke filled the air. Rage growled in my head at the havoc we saw,
I tried mind-linking my Beta, but he was unreachable, Mom and Dad too could not be reached, so I drove at full speed toward the pack house. My eyes widened in shock as I arrived at the mansion, part of the building was burnt down with dead bodies piled up in front, and the smell of Rogue also filled the air.
Immediately I jumped out of the car, Rage could not feel my mate and that freaked us out. I ran inside the pack house, bypassing my pack warriors who laid on the ground injured while some helped to clear the mess,
The moment I got in the house my eyes met my Parents and my Beta who had injuries all over his body, I looked around for my mate yet could not find her, my wolf already pacing back and forth in my head and growling for its mate.
” What the hell happened?” I asked in a whisper,
” We got attacked, that is what happened, under our noses these wolves took us unaware,” Greg explained with gritted teeth,
” And my wife, Where is she? I cannot find her and my wolf cannot feel her either,”
The room turned silent at my words, I noticed the fear and sadness in their eyes. Mom and Dad stared at each other while Greg avoided my gaze, their actions made my heart skip.
” Can someone please answer me?”
” Luna is gone, Alpha, they took her,”
My eyes widened at my Beta’s expression, I gaped at him petrified at the words leaving his mouth, “What the fuck did you just say?” my voice a whisper as I walked closer to them,
” Son, Everything happened fast, we tried our best to save her, but they still took her with them. I am sorry,” my mother’s voice sounded in the room, I arcked my neck in her direction and gazed at her. She had tears rolling down her eyes into her cheeks.
” No, I left her here, so she has to be here.”
” Son, please, we are sorry,”
There was no way I could accept this news. My mind was in a frenzy and my wolf snarled for its mate, in a few hours I left my pack, and now I return to see all this plus my mate missing? Fuck! I ran upstairs to our room. I needed to see for myself. However, I knew it was real as my wolf and I could not feel her.
The minute I rushed in I saw no one in the room, I could merely perceive her scent that filled the room. My feet moved in slow strides, as I walked to the bed where I last, saw her sleeping soundly.
I heard footsteps behind me and I turned to see my parents and best friend behind me, Mom moved toward me, she held my hand in hers before placing an item in it. I looked up at her, confused.
” We found this in the bathroom,”
Slowly with a beating heart, I opened the little box Mom placed in my hands and found a home pregnancy strip test, they were five different test tubes in total, and all of them tested positive. My heart seemed to have stopped as I stared at the results in my hand. My mate had a bun in the oven!
I did not realize I was crying until I felt Mom’s hand wiping my tears off my cheeks, Rage became silent as he also watched through my eyes.
” She is pregnant, my mate is with child!”
I yelled as I stood on my feet, I turned to face my family who had nothing but sorrow on their faces,
” I need every detail of what fucking happened in the last twenty hours.”
” Alpha, everything happened so fast. Two hours had gone by since you left the pack’s territory when I received a call from our men at the border about a strange dead body, quickly I took some warriors with me to the scene, leaving the pack house weak with only a few men on standby. Thirty minutes at the scene was when it began, Rogues came out from all corners, both in wolf and human form. We fought hard with these wolves, but there was something wrong.”
” What?”
” These Rogue wolves were stronger and faster than the normal rogue wolves, similar to the ones at Alveria with Henry. I managed to run back to the park house, but upon my arrival, these wolves had set part of the mansion on fire. Their number was numerous as they attacked us from all intersections, I ran upstairs to get Luna, however I was met by five Rogues still in their human form coming downstairs with her unconscious body in the arms of one of them, Your Mom joined me, and we attacked them, yet we had to be careful since they still held her. Eventually, they were able to escape as more rogues attacked us,”
I listened carefully to the words of my Beta as he made clear what transpired, we were now in my office, my wolf whimpering for its mate in my head.
After hearing my family’s explanation of the attack, I understood that this could only happen thanks to an insider.
Waterfall lost a total of one hundred werewolves with more than fifty injured wolves, it is a good thing the women and children were quickly locked in the safe zone arranged for situations like these. The pack house has one of these, and I expected my mate to be locked in there safe. But she is not.
” If only we had been here, then all this would not have happened, she would have been with us right now!” Rage yelled in my head,
I ignored his comments knowing that all these angry words will not bring her back, or the life of the dead warriors of my pack, I needed to act and fast.
” I believe Darren has a hand in this because everything that occurred shows why he pulled you out of Waterfall, so their plan can be carried out perfectly.”
My Beta’s words were a logical fact that could not be denied. I thought as much, too.
” They have bitten more than they can chew, and everybody involved in this disaster will get a taste of their medicine.”
