224: Her Heart is Already in His Hands

Book:Billionaire's Regret: Finding Her Published:2025-3-9

“Since we suspect that it’s related to V Country’s Departure City Yun’s Fragrance & Dye Studio, shouldn’t we investigate the Yun family? We should look into why your grandmother left Departure City all those years ago.”
“You’re right, we should investigate. I remember Una’s last words before she died-she told me not to go to Departure City. Why did she say that? What happened there? What can’t we return to Departure City? Looks like I need to do some serious research on this!”
“I’ll take care of it. I’ll first find out what the current situation of the Yun family is.”
“Thanks!”
After searching Black Hawk’s place, Sebastian took Caitlin back.
On the way, Sebastian received a call from his subordinate.
“Mr. Vanderbilt, we just got word that the criminal Black Hawk attacked the police, caused chaos, and escaped. His whereabouts are currently unknown.”
“Where did this happen?”
“On Binhe Road, at the Prosecutor’s Office.”
“Alright, I’m on my way!”
After hanging up, Sebastian slammed on the brakes and quickly made a U-turn, heading straight to the Prosecutor’s Office on Binhe Road.
Caitlin, who had overheard the call, was immediately concerned. “This is bad. If Black Hawk escaped, who knows what he’s going to do next!”
There was no time to waste, and Sebastian rushed to the Prosecutor’s Office as fast as he could.
When they arrived, they saw the area around the Prosecutor’s Office blocked off, with several police and ambulance vehicles parked outside. Medical personnel were carrying injured officers out.
Just then, Felix, along with his team, arrived hurriedly. He immediately ran toward Prosecutor Cui Yan.
Cui Yan, who had fought with the criminal, was no match for him. He had a wound on his forehead and was in the middle of giving a statement.
Felix grabbed him by the collar. “What did I tell you? Major criminals should be heavily guarded! You guys made the call without consulting anyone! Now do you see? This isn’t just any criminal, this is a serial killer! He’s a top-notch hitman, and his specialty is combat and escape!”
The once confident Prosecutor Cui Yan, who had promised to bring the criminal in for questioning, lowered his head and apologized. “I’m sorry!”
“What good is an apology now? The important thing is to capture the criminal!” Felix was under a lot of pressure. It had been hard enough to crack the case and announce it to the public, but now, just hours later, the criminal had escaped while being transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office. The panic this news would cause outside was unimaginable.
After shouting at Cui Yan, Felix moved away and began to coordinate the investigation. He turned to his team and ordered, “You guys go check the nearby vehicle dash cams and road surveillance footage. We need to find out the criminal’s escape route!”
“Understood!” the team responded quickly.
Felix was about to head inside the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the crime scene when Sebastian and Caitlin caught up with him.
“Felix! Black Hawk escaped?”
Felix’s face was grim as he replied, “Yes, he escaped again! Let’s head to the scene.”
When they got to the scene, they learned that Black Hawk had asked to go to the restroom when he arrived at the Prosecutor’s Office. The officers had locked him in a bathroom, but somehow, he managed to break free from his handcuffs, injured one officer, and attacked five more police officers and three Prosecutor’s staff before escaping the building.
After a thorough search, they found that Black Hawk had escaped through the drainage pipes.
Felix relayed the information to his team and asked the traffic department to assist with the search.
The police were on full alert, tracking Black Hawk’s every move.
Sebastian and Caitlin were no longer needed at the scene, so they left.
On the way back, Caitlin drove, while Sebastian contacted his subordinates.
“Do you think he’ll go back to his place?” Caitlin asked.
“Very likely. Let’s go check!”
Sebastian figured Black Hawk didn’t know they had already found his hideout. After escaping from the Prosecutor’s Office, he might return to his apartment.

A small light truck was parked downstairs from the apartment building.
A man wearing a hat and mask got out and ran into the building.
It was Black Hawk returning to his place. As soon as he stepped inside, he became alert.
Noticing the placement of some objects in his room seemed disturbed, he quickly deduced someone had been there.
Who could it be?
Black Hawk retrieved a small pinhole camera from a hidden spot and connected it to his phone. It didn’t take long for him to figure it out.
“Sebastian… Caitlin… hmph…”
A wicked grin spread across Black Hawk’s lips, and his eyes flashed with murderous intent.
Meanwhile, the bodyguards who had been monitoring Black Hawk’s place saw someone suspicious on the surveillance footage. They immediately reported it to Sebastian.
“Mr. Vanderbilt, we’ve found him! He’s back at his apartment!”
“Good, keep a close watch and don’t alert him. I’ll be there soon!”
Sebastian hurried to Black Hawk’s hideout, instructing Caitlin to pass the news to Felix.
Felix received the update and immediately led his team to the apartment.
Sebastian and his team arrived first. As he got out of the car, he grabbed his weapon from under the seat and loaded it quickly.
They were about to face Black Hawk directly, so he needed to be prepared.
“You stay in the car. I’ll go in and find him,” Sebastian said to Caitlin.
“We should go together!” Caitlin insisted, wanting to stand by his side.
But Sebastian wouldn’t let her take that risk.
He cupped Caitlin’s face in one hand, looking at her seriously. “Stay here. This time, I’m not letting him get away. Wait for me, okay?”
With his determined gaze locked on hers for a few moments, Sebastian opened the door and ran toward the building.
Caitlin couldn’t explain the feelings swirling inside her at that moment. They were so complicated, so mixed up. And one thing was clear: her heart was already tangled with his.
Her eyes followed him as he disappeared into the building. The moment she couldn’t see him anymore, her heart clenched tightly.
Sebastian rushed into the building and arrived at Black Hawk’s apartment. The door was open, and several of Black Hawk’s men lay on the floor.
Clearly, Black Hawk had struck first and killed them mercilessly.
One of them was still alive, and when he saw Sebastian, he pointed in a direction. “Mr. Vanderbilt… that way…”
Sebastian looked up and saw a shadow move in the hallway. He quickly ran in that direction.
In the rundown apartment building, a cat-and-mouse game began between Sebastian and Black Hawk. After searching for what felt like ages, Sebastian finally spotted Black Hawk.
“Bang!”
Without hesitation, Sebastian fired. Black Hawk narrowly dodged, and the two exchanged fire several times inside the building.
Sebastian continued to pursue, never giving up.
They reached the next floor. The hallway was long, the rooms empty. Black Hawk’s figure vanished, but Sebastian, weapon in hand, cautiously searched.
One room after another, until he finally spotted Black Hawk hiding behind a pillar.
“Bang!” Sebastian shot again, knocking down the figure.
But when he got closer, he realized it was just a mannequin.
Clever bastard!
Enraged, Sebastian heard a noise from the stairs below and quickly realized what was happening. He rushed downstairs.
Downstairs, Caitlin had been waiting for a long time without hearing from Sebastian. Growing anxious, she was about to go look for him when suddenly someone burst into the passenger side of the car, pressing a gun against her temple.
A deep voice ordered, “Start the car, now!”
