Lillian pushed against his hand. “If you dare do anything to me, I won’t hesitate to destroy you.”
“Destroy me? No, my baby, you won’t do that.” Frank took her hand, licking the back of it. “You need to stay alive. Otherwise, if you give birth to this child, and he falls into my hands, what do you think will happen?”
Lillian’s face turned pale. “Conrad will kill you if he finds out.”
“Conrad?” Frank smiled slightly. “I haven’t appeared in front of you for so long. He could never have guessed you’d be here with me. Besides, he’s busy right now. Your friend is already preparing your funeral, so who would think it’s me?”
“In this world, the only ones who know you’re here, besides that village girl downstairs, are us.”
“We’ll have our children in the future.”
“Lillian, do you know how long I’ve waited for this moment?”
“My good girl, although you made the wrong choice before, I won’t blame you.”
“You’re still the one I cherish the most.”
Lillian thought for a moment about the things he had prepared in the wardrobe. When she was a teenager, she used to wear puffed-up dresses. She said flatly, “Why are there so many pictures of me in the house, some of which aren’t even of us together? You weren’t even there. Where did they come from?”
“Little fool, of course, I’ve always loved you. No one loves you more than I do, not even Alvin.”
Lillian’s lips trembled. “Did you do something I don’t know about? Is my father’s death related to you?”
“He brought it on himself. What could I have done to stop it? You need to understand, that everything I’ve done has been for our future together.”
“Really? Then what about that diary?” Lillian only discovered after coming here that Frank had placed many things in this room.
At first, she felt uncomfortable snooping around in someone else’s private things.
But as time went on and Frank didn’t show up, she realized she was being kept here against her will.
Her curiosity took over, and she walked into his room, looking for something that might help her escape.
However, in a drawer, she found a pile of data she couldn’t understand.
They were project documents from her father’s old company.
After carefully comparing them, Lillian noticed some decimal point errors.
She could tell it was likely a fake contract.
This discovery kept her up at night, but she managed to sneak into his room again when the nanny wasn’t paying attention.
There, under the bed, she found a safe.
She thought for a moment, entered Frank’s birthday, and it was incorrect.
Finally, she entered her own birthday, and it prompted a success.
Inside was only a dress and a leather-bound diary.
What she found inside made her heart sink.
“You figured it out?” Frank was a bit surprised, then pleased. “Truly, my smart little baby. You’re so clever. I was wondering how you’d figure it out. Well, now that you know, I don’t need to say anything more. You must understand how much I love you now, right?”
“Did you really conspire with outsiders against my dad’s company?”
“That’s not called conspiring, it’s called taking power. If I didn’t take it, how could I have you? Alvin never wanted to marry you to me! He looks down on me because I’m an orphan. What do you expect? My dad’s in prison.”
He continued, “But you’re so wonderful. How could I let you marry someone else? He didn’t want to, and he doesn’t deserve to be your father. He wasn’t my match either. Of course, I had to climb to his position step by step and take care of you.”
“But you ran to Conrad. You’re such a rebellious girl. But it’s fine, I’ll forgive you.”
“Everyone makes mistakes when they’re young.”
“I’ll forgive you, my good girl.”
Lillian gritted her teeth. “What about the dog I used to take care of? How did it die?”
“Didn’t you see in the diary? Why did it get your kiss? Of course, I killed it. Wasn’t the meat nice?”
Smack! A sudden slap landed on him.
“So, after my dad got into trouble, no one helped me, and rumors were spread that I sold myself as a sugar baby. Was that you? Did you do it?!”
“I did it. So what?” Frank said, completely unbothered. “Silly girl, those people were trying to take advantage of you. Do you really think a man would lend you that much money for no reason? Don’t be naive! They just wanted to sleep with you, to own you! I was protecting you.”
“Protecting me? You were deliberately trying to isolate me, making sure I had no one to turn to, right?”
At that time, it truly felt like the darkest moment. Friends who had once promised to lend money suddenly changed and stopped answering her calls.
She had kept wondering if she had done something wrong.
Turns out, the devil had always been by her side.
“What’s wrong with me getting them to isolate you? They believed me after a few words, so they stopped helping you. They’ll never truly care about you again. But I’m different. I’ll always be here with you! Lillian, when will you realize that I’m the most important person to you?”
He shook her shoulders. “In this world, you don’t need friends or family. Isn’t it enough if we stay together forever?”
“You had so many friends, and you still had your dad. You had everything. How could I ever deserve you?”
“Look at you now. You and I are such a perfect match. We’re the best couple in the world.”
“I’m correcting things, trying to stop you from making any more mistakes.”
Lillian had never heard such morally corrupt words in her life.
And he said it with such conviction, as if it was really for her sake.
Lillian found it absurd. How could such disgusting people exist in this world?
“You truly disgust me.”
Frank’s expression instantly turned cold. “Oh really? Then you’d better watch how you speak.”
He grabbed her hair tightly. “I don’t like you speaking to me like that. For you and the bastard child inside you, you’d better behave and come eat with me later, or put on the dress I like. After you give birth, you’ll still have to serve me, just like you served Conrad.”
Lillian said with a blank expression, “You think I’d compromise with you for the sake of the baby? Well, I don’t even want this child. Go ahead, try it. Just kill me.”
Frank squinted as he looked at her neck. “I can’t bear to. But I have plenty of ways to make you wish you were dead.”
Frank added, “The kind of addictive, impossible-to-quit drug will turn you into a monster. At that point, you might even end up kneeling at my feet, begging me. Who knows?”
