Sadie
The last thing I wanted to do was having a conversation alone with Cyrus, but I couldn’t exactly ignore a direct summons. When I walked into his office, my breath left me in a rush when my eyes landed on him. He sat behind his desk in a dress-shirt and tie with his sleeves rolled up past his forearms. His hair was slightly mussed, and he looked so powerful and sexy, I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through this interaction.
The memory of our last kiss flashed through my head, and my body shivered thinking of the pleasure he’d given me. I had to push the thought out of my head. I couldn’t let myself lose control around him again.
“Thank you for coming to speak with me, Miss Bruns,” he said. “Please, have a seat.”
I took a little comfort in the fact that he was calling me Miss Bruns again. Using my first name had felt far too…intimate.
Making my way across the room, I sat in one of the chairs in front of his desk and kept my expression carefully neutral and polite.
“What can I do for you, Mr. Grave?” I asked, folding my hands in my lap and meeting his gaze.
He didn’t answer right away, and tension seemed to sizzle in the air between us.
At length, he said, “I wanted to apologize for the other night, Miss Bruns. It was highly inappropriate for me to…to kiss you. I promise you that it won’t happen again, so please, don’t worry about it.”
I blinked, surprised by his unexpected apology. I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. On the one hand, the acknowledgment of what happened between us was appreciated, but…did that mean he hadn’t liked it? Startled, I gave myself a mental shake. What was I thinking? Why did I care if he liked it or not?
I should be relieved that he was promising it wouldn’t happen again, but there was a small, nagging part of me that was oddly disappointed. Gritting my teeth, I struggled to get my warring emotions in check before I said anything in response.
After a few moments, I managed to murmur, “All right. I appreciate your apology. I’m sorry, too. Is there anything else?”
He frowned at me. “What do you mean, is there anything else? Is the apology not enough?”
“It is,” I assured him hurriedly. “Thank you. If there’s nothing else, though, I should get back to Megan.”
That was a lame excuse. Mrs. Plumb was watching Megan and the two would be just fine without me for some time yet. I just needed to get out of there before I lost control of myself and let something slip that I didn’t want him to know.
“Miss Bruns…” he said when I pushed to my feet.
“I’ll talk to you later, Mr. Grave,” I mumbled, turning for the door.
“Sadie!” he snapped. “Hold on!”
I didn’t stop. I couldn’t. I dashed for the door, but just as I touched the handle, I felt his hand wrap around mine. He stopped me and gently spun me around. I couldn’t help but gaze up at him, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Don’t run away from me,” he murmured.
“Let me go, Mr. Grave,” I whispered in a breathless tone. His touch sent shots of heat down my arms and torso.
“Is that really what you want?” he asked in a low voice that seemed to rumble from his chest.
I released a long breath, a yes on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn’t seem to get the word past my lips.
“I…I…” I stammered.
“Too late,” he growled before capturing my mouth in a rough kiss.
I let out a cry, my knees instantly going weak, but he gripped my backside and lifted me off my feet. Instinctively, I wrapped my legs around his waist.
“You’re driving me insane, damn you,” he said before nipping at my lips with his teeth.
“Shut up,” I hissed, digging my fingers into his hair and dragging his lips back to mine.
It was as though we were trying to devour each other. There was anger and desperation in the kiss and such white-hot lust, I was certain we’d be scorched by it.
He shoved my dress down to my waist and my bra up to expose my breasts and released a low groan.
“Christ, you’re perfect.” He cupped one breast and stroked his thumb over my nipple, causing me to hiss in a breath.
“Oh, Cyrus,” I uttered on a gasped breath. “More…please…”
“Don’t worry, baby,” he breathed. “I’ll give you everything you need.”
Chapter 29
He spun us around. Moving toward his desk, he took one arm and swept the surface clean before laying me down on top of it. He kissed me again as he squeezed and groped my breasts. His lips left mine, and he trailed them along my jaw and down my throat. I whimpered as he kept going lower. He stopped at my chest and took one nipple into his mouth, sucking it as he pinched and tugged at the other.
It was too much, and yet, it wasn’t enough. I was pulsing between my legs, more and more desperate for release with each second that passed. As if he could sense my racing thoughts and desires, Cyrus moved from my breasts and made his way down my belly, stopping long enough to push my skirt up and pull down my underwear. He pushed my thighs apart and released a heavy breath that I felt against my tender flesh.
“You’re gorgeous,” he growled, his eyes devouring me. With a smirk, he glanced up to meet my gaze. “I wonder if you taste as good as you look.”
I let out a little cry when he lowered his face between my legs and dragged his tongue through my sensitive folds. I threw my hands over my head and arched my back, driving my sex more firmly against his mouth.
Cyrus devoured me like a feast, and I couldn’t get enough. The way he used his tongue and lips was masterful. It felt as though I was losing control of my body. He owned me at that moment, and I had never wanted to be possessed more than I did with him. That realization frightened me a little bit, but it was not enough to overpower the pleasure he gave me.
“Cyrus!” I whimpered. “Don’t stop…”
He didn’t and instead began licking and kissing me with more fervor. I writhed on the desk, completely lost to the sensations overwhelming my body. Before too long, I found myself rushing to my peak. I undulated my hips, wanting to climb higher and higher until I shattered beneath his mouth and hands.
“I’m…I’m close…” I moaned. “Cyrus…”
“Come for me, baby,” he ordered as he slipped a finger inside me. “Do it. Now.”
It was like he had trained my body to obey his every command. My muscles seized, and it felt as though I were exploding. I covered my mouth with my hands to muffle my cries as my orgasm ripped through me. My legs shook and clenched around his head as he mercilessly licked me until I couldn’t take anymore. When he relented at last, I lay slumped and exhausted on the desk. My limbs felt like they were made of jelly, and I panted heavily as I fought to catch my breath.
With an arrogant grin, Cyrus moved back up my body and pressed his lips to mine once more. I tasted myself on him as he kissed me softly.
“Cyrus…” I breathed, raising a hand to brush my fingertips along his cheek.
“Don’t worry,” he murmured. “We’re just getting started.”
He pressed his hips against me, and I felt how hard and eager he was. I couldn’t say why in the moment, but feeling his length against my thigh startled me and snapped me out of my groggy after-glow. My eyes widened and I stared up at him, panic washing over me.
“Sadie?” He furrowed his brow with clear concern. “Everything okay?”
Shaking my head, I pushed at his chest, and he moved up and off of me. Scrambling up, I tugged my dress back into place and hopped off the desk to find my underwear.
“Sadie?” His voice was firmer. “What are you doing?”
“I can’t do this,” I insisted, dragging my underwear on. “I…I’m sorry. This is a bad idea.”
“I don’t understand…” He began, but I hurried toward the door. “Sadie! Stop!”
I did but only to shoot him a look over my shoulder. He looked completely baffled, and I couldn’t blame him. I confused myself with these mixed messages, but that panic was still riding me, and I had to get away from him.
“I’m sorry,” I said again with a shake of my head. “I really am.”
Before he could say another word to try and stop me, I opened the door and slipped into the hall, fleeing him like a damn coward.
