Kai’s Past Life, Part 3: Hybrid’s Blood

Book:The ExtraOrdinary Luna Published:2025-3-6

Thirty years ago…
Bloodworth Coven Castle, France.
A pale-faced male figure was sitting on a chair in an oval room with a long table and several chairs surrounding it. All pairs of eyes in the room were fixed on him, waiting for him to open his voice. Crossing his fingers on the table, the man said, “Bring the hybrid to me! I will make a decision after I meet him.”
The man sitting to his right said, “You must consider the statements of the few eyewitnesses who have seen him, my lord!”
“But he could be a danger to our clan. His wolf side is a threat to the existence of vampires,” said the man opposite him.
“But he has never attacked a vampire or a werewolf; there are eyewitnesses who can confirm that,” replied the first man in the argument.
“Enough! As I said, I will decide after meeting him, and this is the final decision of this meeting. The meeting is dismissed!” said the man leading the meeting firmly.
All the vampires in the room got up from their seats except the leader. The man leaned his back against the chair back as he massaged his forehead. He felt a touch on his shoulder from behind and saw a beautiful woman no less pale than him with a smile on her face.
“Calm down Mikael. This is not the first time the vampire clan has faced such a difficult issue. You should be able to see it from various perspectives. From what I hear, this hybrid is just like those new vampires that The Vampire Leader can always handle, right?” the woman said softly.
“Yeah, you’re right. Thank you, Sabine. You’re always soothing to my heart,” said Mikael.
The night after the meeting between the vampire elders, Mikael had been waiting restlessly on his throne. During his existence as a vampire, this was the first time he had heard of a hybrid. He was so curious about the hybrid figure that it could be an opening for the vampire clan.
He received a report that a hybrid was entering the castle. A smile spread across Mikael’s face, making the woman next to him also hold his hand tightly. Finally he saw the two figures he had been waiting for coming from the darkness of the corridor.
Kai and Sophie walked into a circular room with a high roof. Kai saw a pair of figures sitting behind a table. Their eyes were both focused on him. Kai bowed half of his body to them.
“Do you know why you’re here, hybrid?” the man asked.
“No, sir.” Kai replied stammering as the cold he felt made his body crawl.
“We want to ask you some questions. Answer each of my questions truthfully.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Can you still turn into a wolf?”
“Only during the full moon.”
“Do you have vampire powers?”
“Only hypnotise and move fast. I don’t have the sharp hearing and mind-travelling skills of a normal vampire. I also bleed too.”
The man widened his eyes. In just a split second, he was right in front of Kai and grabbed Kai’s hand. He sank his fangs into Kai’s wrist and backed his face away. He saw blood flowing out of the two holes he had just made.
“Fascinant!”
The man’s eyes flashed with enthusiasm after witnessing the scene just now. He nodded his head to one of the guards standing at the threshold of the hallway.
“We’d like to take a sample of your blood; I hope you don’t mind. You can walk during the day, right?”
“Yes, sir,” replied Kai.
“For hundreds of years, we have been researching how vampires can walk during the day. Your existence is the answer.”
The man laughed happily as he patted Kai on the back. With a second quick movement, he sat back in the chair.
“If you’d like, I’d be willing to hospitalise you in return for your blood sample, Malachai Henderson, and to you and Sophie, I’m very grateful for taking such good care of Kai.”
“Thank you, Lord Mikael,” said Sophie as she bowed.
A vampire approached Mikael and whispered in his ear. Mikael nodded after the vampire finished whispering.
“It’s okay. I will forgive him. We no longer need Veela’s blood for research.”

Several next months…
Kai ran as fast as he could. His hand tightly held Sophie’s hand, who was running beside him. They ran between the narrow alleys of Paris. At times, Kai looked back to see if they had escaped the chase or not.
Kai’s hand flinched, causing him to stop his pace. He turned around and saw Sophie’s hands being held by two large male vampires. Kai saw that Sophie had tears streaming down her face.
“Just give up, Kai. You don’t want anything to happen to Sophie, do you?” said one of the vampires.
“Get away, Kai. Don’t turn yourself in!” shouted Sophie.
“Lord Mikael will do anything to force you to bow to his orders. He only wants your blood; oh, come on, don’t make our job even harder, Kai Henderson!”
Kai was filled with panic. He saw one of the vampires holding Sophie as it prepared to break her neck. He was at a loss as to what to do. His strength was far surpassed by that of the two vampires. Nor could he shape-shift into a wolf because it wasn’t the night of the full moon.
Kai watched as Sophie managed to break free of one vampire’s grip and kick the other vampire in the chest. Sophie managed to shred his chest but didn’t manage to reach his heart. She was only thinking about Kai because she was afraid that the other vampires would get him.
She turned to Kai and shouted, “Get out of here, Kai! I’ll hold them here.”
One of the vampires who had grabbed Sophie’s hand earlier managed to push her to the pavement. The vampire pulled Sophie to her feet and broke her legs, bringing her to her knees in front of Kai. The vampire grinned; he touched Sophie’s neck, and seconds later, Kai could see Sophie’s head was separated from her body.
Kai screamed and felt the rage inside him rise up after seeing Sophie die by the vampire. He sizzled and put all his strength into attacking the vampire that had just killed Sophie. Kai managed to kick the vampire in the chest, sending it crashing to the ground.
“I thought you couldn’t fight,” the vampire taunted, baring his fangs.
Kai ignored the vampire’s provocative words. Without even being provoked, Kai would have finished off the vampire. He had killed Sophie in front of his eyes.
Kai grabbed the vampire’s neck and kicked it with his knee, then Kai turned around so he could get on his back. Kai grabbed the vampire’s neck once more and pulled with all her strength. A second later, Kai threw the severed head to his friend, who was sitting up, holding his chest that was torn by Sophie’s attack.
“I’ll tell Mikael that he won’t be able to get my blood anymore.”
Kai walked over to Sophie’s body. He looked down at Sophie’s stiff face with open eyes. Kai held Sophie’s body and head together. Kai cried for the last time in his life before he switched off his humanity. He wanted to feel sadness one last time.
Kai felt a new sensation in his heart and mind. He stepped towards the vampire, who was still sitting there looking at him. Kai crouched down and said it with a wide grin.
“Not so; let Mikael know that I don’t mess with his elite hunters. Do you know how much it costs to deliver a vampire heart in a matter of hours? Let me see if there’s any money in your pockets… Ah, you guys are always on the ball; I think this is enough for the courier fee.”
Kai touched the gaping wound on the vampire’s chest; he made scratches around it with his nails. The vampire cried out in pain, but Kai just chuckled at that. He looked at the vampire with satisfaction. The next second, he was already holding the vampire’s heart with his hand.
“Ridiculous,” he said as he squeezed the heart with a bored look on his face.
