“So, what’s your answer?”
Edith was stunned as soon as she heard the sentence spoken by Seth. She was still shocked by what she had just heard. She just stood still without blinking, her mouth half open.
Seth shook Edith’s body in an attempt to wake her up from her shocked reaction. But Edith was still unconscious. So Seth brought her face closer again until her movements stopped, and Edith said, “I thought after becoming a Luna I would become your wife.”
Seth laughed. He found Edith’s reaction so funny that he covered his mouth to hold back his laughter. Looking at Edith’s innocent face, Seth felt comforted.
“You’re so funny. I didn’t expect your reaction to be like that. To the pack, you are indeed my mate, but we are supernatural beings who coexist with humans. I want to have you completely, so I thought the whole universe should know.”
This time, it was Edith who laughed. She rolled her eyes after hearing Seth’s words. Edith thinks that Seth still has arrogance, even though it is not directed at her.
Edith didn’t care, even though she became Seth’s object of arrogance. After being with Seth for some time, she changed herself to be more open to the man’s demeanour. At least she didn’t have to close herself off to others anymore.
Next, they both discussed the open-air party that Seth had planned for Edith. Seth suggested that Edith could invite her people to the party. Edith frowned and thought otherwise because she was not so sure about the existence of her own people.
“I don’t know if Veela still exists.”
“I’ll find out. Just in case you want to celebrate… you know Hen Night Veela-style.”
“It’s up to you. I’ve never even had alcohol before.”
“Oh, come on, Edith; it’ll be fun. Because married life afterwards will be a new step for both of us.”
Edith could only nod. She was not sure about this. Edith imagined the party vibe if Seth managed to celebrate, and all she could think about was getting drunk and out of control.
*
Edith felt that Jen had talked too much about how she should dress. The two of them became close after, a while ago, she was ignored by Seth. The girl even made too much noise with frivolous comments when Edith wore a revealing dress.
“You and my grandma aren’t even that different. Come on, Edith, you’re so pretty. You should expose your beautiful body. Why should you be ashamed of your own party?” Jen protested by moving her eyes from Edith’s head downward.
“Listen, Jen. I’m afraid Seth will get angry if my dress is too revealing.”
“You’re an old-fashioned woman, if that’s your problem. I’ll be in charge of dealing with that arrogant wolf. He’ll never get mad at me, so wear that dress.”
Edith nodded languidly. Besides being chatty, Jen was also pushy, but Edith was comfortable being friends with her. Edith felt that her life had become more colourful since she knew Jen.
After an hour of getting ready, Jen finally put the final make-up on Edith’s lips. When Edith saw herself standing in front of the mirror, she was shocked by her own appearance.
“I look so red, Jen.”
“It’s supposed to be like that, so you’ll make all the men’s eyes stare at you without blinking.”
“Aren’t there only women present?”
“You’ll find out how we celebrated our bachelorette party werewolf style. Seth told me that your kind never have parties like this, so he decided to celebrate werewolf-style.”
Edith had no idea what the werewolves had planned for her. Her hand was already being pulled by Jen out of the room, and her footsteps were just following where the girl was taking her.
Edith had reached the great hall of the Pack House. She saw a lot of werewolves attending the party. Edith could hear that it was not only packs from mainland Britain but also from other continents.
“Here we are. You’re very pretty tonight, Luna Edith, so I’m asking your permission to enjoy the party,” pleaded Jennifer with a meaningful smile at Edith.
Edith nodded, and a second later, her hand was grabbed by someone. “My dear, you look stunning,” Hope said as she saw Edith walking towards her.
“Thank you, Hope. You look very pretty tonight, too. Have you seen Seth?”
“He’s with Alpha Serapheim of the Moonvalley Pride pack; last time I saw him, he wasn’t far from… ah, there he is.” Hope found Seth after her gaze was drawn towards one of the windows near the table with the vase of flowers.
Edith headed in the direction pointed out by Hope. She saw Seth talking to a couple of men and women in their early forties. Arriving at Seth’s place, Edith could only silently listen to Seth speaking in a foreign language. Edith felt her hand grabbed by Seth, and he spoke, which Edith did not understand.
“Introductions: these are Alpha Serapheim and Luna Persephone of the Moonvalley Pride pack, Athena,” said Seth politely.
“Nice to meet you, Luna Edith,” both greeted.
“Nice to meet you too.”
The Alpha and Luna couple shook Edith’s hand in turn. Edith could only grasp that she was being introduced by Seth to the pair. Next, Edith’s hand was pulled by Seth to leave the couple.
“Do you speak their language?”
“You just found out? I can speak ten foreign languages, if you want to know. When I was a kid, we travelled a lot around the world. My father, Alpha Christian, made his fortune as an American real estate developer, and my grandfather, Alpha Kellan, was an emissary of the werewolf race in the Idris Covenant, which required him to be constantly on the move. They were more often abroad than in their own homeland,” Seth explained.
“That’s cool.”
“I am, and you look hot, baby. You’ve also completely desensitised my senses tonight. Your pheromone scent is making me drunk.”
Seth roamed his hands over Edith’s back. Edith’s exposed back turned him on when he touched it. Edith flinched for a moment, but the noise of the party soon dawned on her.
“Seth, many people will be watching.”
“I don’t care.”
Just as Seth was about to bring his face closer to Edith, someone cleared their throat and interrupted him. Seth turned his gaze towards the voice and found Jadden smiling.
“Alpha Niels and Luna Tilde would like to meet you and Luna Edith.”
Edith could see the blonde werewolf couple beside Jadden. Edith heard Seth greet them respectfully, considering they were much older than her and Seth. The Alpha took Edith’s hand and kissed the back of it.
“You look very beautiful, Luna Edith.”
“Thank you, Alpha Niels,” Edith replied with a smile.
“They are from the Winterpelt Manes pack, Copenhagen,” added Seth to introduce them.
Edith smiled at the middle-aged couple. In Edith’s mind, this celebration was far from what she had imagined. Edith had thought that a werewolf bachelorette party would be like a normal human bachelorette party. This was beyond her expectations; this party was more formal, and many high-ranking werewolves attended from various countries.
This party made Edith feel like an important person in the werewolf world. As she listened to Seth’s conversation with the Alphas and Lunas that she did not understand, she just put a smile on her face.
The party ended at exactly midnight. Edith had already put Julian to bed. She kissed Julian’s forehead and pulled the blanket over his body. When Edith turned around, she saw Seth standing in the doorway, smiling at her.
“You’re a great mum.”
“Shhh, he was just sleeping. Seth, I thought a werewolf bachelorette party was exactly like humans. It’s completely different; it’s like a party for influential werewolves. Why is that?” said Edith in a low voice.
“He-wolf claims one mate for life, and I’m an Alpha claiming you to be my Luna for life. A werewolf bachelorette party is like announcing to the werewolf world an influential werewolf’s mate.”
“Now I see how you’ve managed to do it all at such a young age. Julian was so enthusiastic at the party. He just kept raving about you. You’re also a great father to Julian. I thought werewolves were confined to packs, but it turns out you guys have a lot of connections too.” Edith said it in a low voice as she walked out of the room.
“An alpha has to be like that. My father taught me that. Besides, werewolves aren’t the only powerful creatures in the universe. Connections are very important for packs. Are you enchanted with me?”
“Yeah, I thought you were just a girl lover and troublemaker. Sorry if I ever underestimated you, Seth.” Edith bowed her head in guilt.
“I’m angry that you’re acting like that towards me.”
“What?”
Edith raised her head and looked at Seth. She saw Seth’s beady eyes turn yellow. A second later, Seth closed the door and eroded the distance between them.
“Take off your dress.”
“Seth, we…”
“I said, take it off!” Seth said it in a firm voice.
Edith took a step back; she was reminded of that night. The night when Seth first touched her…
