After dinner, Nanci lay on the bed, bored, waiting for Edward to finish his bath. She started daydreaming until the ringing of her phone brought her back. Seeing it was Kaia calling, she quickly answered.
“Kaia? Why are you calling so late? Is something wrong with Sir Hershey?”
“No, Ms. Ross. Sorry to bother you so late. It’s just that the medicine you gave us is almost used up. We only have enough for tomorrow, so I wanted to ask when you could come over for the next treatment session. Sir Hershey can now walk a few steps with assistance. He’s very happy and eager.”
Nanci quickly replied, “I’m sorry. I’ve been delayed by some things recently and haven’t been able to check on Sir Hershey’s condition in time. I’ll come over tomorrow. From what you’ve said, it sounds like we can proceed with the final treatment session. Please tell Sir Hershey not to worry. He will recover.”
“Okay, we’ll wait for you tomorrow then. Thank you, Ms. Ross.”
“It’s my duty. See you tomorrow.”
Edward came out and saw Nanci just hanging up the phone. He asked, “Who called?”
“Sir Hershey’s housekeeper. I’ve been so busy lately that I forgot to check on Sir Hershey’s condition in time. He’s much better now, but the medicine I brought over last time is almost gone. I need to go to the Hershey family’s residence again tomorrow.”
Edward was worried about her going out alone but knew it was something she had to do. He also had work to handle at his company, so he could only say, “Make sure to stay safe when you’re out alone. Don’t be too afraid if anything happens because there are highly skilled people protecting you.”
Nanci smiled and asked, “Why have I never seen them? Are you just trying to comfort me by saying that? There’s no one actually around me protecting me, isn’t there?”
“Do you think I can’t afford a few skilled bodyguards? The fact that you haven’t noticed them shows how professional they are, which also makes enemies let down their guard. Do you want me to call them out for you to see?”
Nanci hooked her arms around Edward’s neck and said, “Oh, I’m sorry for doubting your words. So now you don’t have to worry about me going out anymore. Wherever I go and whatever I do is under your watch!”
“Why does that sound like you’re complaining? You’re not going to do anything bad, right? Or, are you hiding something from me?”
“Haha, how could that be? With such a perfect man by my side, how could I ever do anything to cheat on you?”
Seeing Nanci’s cute expression, Edward hugged her tightly. “You’re so charming. How can I let you go out alone without concerns? What if someone with bad intentions does something…”
“That won’t happen. Alright, I’ll take a bath first, and then we can go to bed early.”
While Nanci was taking a bath, Edward was pondering how to propose to Nanci. He eagerly wanted everyone to know she was his woman and no one else could steal her away from him. He picked up his phone and texted Issac to book a place for the proposal.
“Issac, don’t you love me anymore? Every time your boss calls or texts you, you drop everything for him. We only get to see each other at night now. It’s not just once or twice. He always needs you. Doesn’t he have another assistant? If this continues, I’m not talking to you anymore! Go be with him instead!”
Issac gave her a big hug and gently comforted her, “Honey, don’t be upset. I’m working hard and making money so we can have our own home when we get married. Imagine us living in our own place without worrying about rent or noisy neighbors-isn’t that wonderful?”
“I just want you to spend more time with me…”
“I’m sorry for upsetting you. I’ll finish up quickly and come back to be with you, okay? You sleep first. We’ll meet in our dreams.”
“No, I’ll stay up with you this time. What does your boss need you to do now? Maybe I can help.”
Smiling, Issac was grateful that he had such an understanding girlfriend. He felt blessed by heaven for bringing light into his dull life.
Edward put down his phone and continued thinking about the scene Nanci had described before-she wanted it in an amusement park…
Nanci came out of the bathroom and ran into Edward’s arms, happily saying, “Let’s go to bed early. I need to get up early tomorrow.”
Edward smelled her fragrance and fell asleep peacefully.
The next day, Nanci quietly got out of bed, washed up, and packed her acupuncture needles into her backpack. After a simple breakfast, she set off.
Arriving at the Hershey family’s residence, Nanci got out of the car and saw Sir Hershey personally waiting at the door for her arrival while Antony stood quietly beside him.
She quickly approached and said, “Sir Hershey, why did you come out yourself? Even if you’re feeling better, you shouldn’t expose yourself to the wind carelessly. What if you catch a cold?”
Sir Hershey laughed heartily and said, “If I catch a cold, isn’t Ms. Ross here? Besides, it’s mid-May now. The weather is warm with sunshine and even the breeze carries some warmth.”
“You have a point. Let’s go inside first so I can give you a quick check-up.”
“Alright! Antony, push me inside.”
In the living room, Nanci opened her backpack and took out her equipment for examination. She told Sir Hershey, “We can proceed with the final treatment session today since most toxins have been cleared from your body, but this step is crucially important. It will be more painful than before with higher risks involved. Whether it succeeds depends on today, but rest assured, I’ll do my best!”
Antony looked at Nanci and asked, “Is there any way we can ensure success 100%? After all, Grandfather is old, and I’m worried… It’s not that I don’t trust you, Ms. Ross. I hope you don’t mind.”
Nanci replied, “I’ve added some other ingredients that can mitigate side effects. This method is based on extensive research. If anything goes wrong, I’ll take responsibility.”
Sir Hershey quickly grabbed Antony’s arm and said, “Look at how I am now compared to before. It’s all thanks to Ms. Ross. Don’t doubt her anymore. No matter what the risk is, I’ll bear it. I’ll make it clear-regardless of the outcome, you can’t blame her. Otherwise, I won’t recognize you as my grandson!”
“Grandpa! Why are you so biased towards her? I’m starting to wonder if I was adopted or something!”
Sir Hershey offered a cryptic smile and replied, “You seem to be quite helpful to her as well. I may be old, but my mind is still sharp!”
Nanci understood the implication of his words and fell silent. Deep down, Antony trusted her, which puzzled her. He had only met her a few times, yet he found himself caring for her. Even though he knew Nanci had a boyfriend and her boyfriend was exceptional, he still helped her quietly during her difficult moments. He wanted her to know, but at the same time, he didn’t.
Nanci spoke up, “Sir Hershey, it will take some time. You’ll need to lie down in your room, and it’s best if the environment is quiet without any disturbances because I need to focus completely.”
“Antony, did you hear that? Go make the arrangements. I’ll head to my room for Ms. Ross’s treatment now.”
“Grandpa, I’ll accompany you. At least there will be someone around to help.”
Nanci replied, “That works. I won’t hold back if it involves some physical tasks.”
“Just tell me what to do. I’m happy to help. Kaia, you stay here. If anyone asks for us, just tell them we’ll reschedule. We can’t accommodate today.”
“Understood, young master.”
Nanci prepared to assist Sir Hershey upstairs, but Antony quickly interjected, “Let me handle this. I often help my grandpa like this. It’s easier. You should save your strength for later.”
“Thanks, I appreciate it.”
“We’re friends, after all. Besides, you’re treating my grandpa, so I should be thanking you for helping him improve.”
Once in the room, Antony gently helped Sir Hershey lie down, while Nanci set up the tools she would need on a table. She took a pill out of a bottle and asked, “Do you have any water? I need to give Sir Hershey this pill. It will help ease some side effects.”
Antony stood up to fetch a glass of water and assisted his grandfather in swallowing it.
Nanci continued, “Sir Hershey, you might feel a bit drowsy soon, but that’s normal. You can go to sleep, and I’ll wake you when it’s time.”
Sir Hershey, filled with hope for recovery, smiled brightly and eagerly agreed, then closed his eyes and drifted off.
Antony watched his grandfather’s eyes shut and asked, “Is this the effect of the medicine? He fell asleep so quickly. It’s not a side effect, is it?”
“I made this myself. There’s absolutely no danger. Now I need to get started. Could you bring me a basin of hot water with a towel inside? I’ll need them later.”
“Sure.”
“And can you grab me a candle?”
“Wait here. I’ll prepare it for you right away.”
Nanci tentatively called out, “Sir Hershey? Are you asleep?” After confirming he wasn’t responding, she took a moment to gather her thoughts, reminding herself, “Don’t be nervous, Nanci! You’ve got this.”
Antony returned just in time to hear her words. He looked at Nanci and said, “Don’t worry. We all believe in you. Just perform as you normally would.”
“Okay, just set everything aside for me. Let’s get started.”
“Is there anything else I can help with?”
“Could you help your grandpa with a sponge bath and change his pants to shorts? I need to administer acupuncture to help eliminate the remaining toxins. I’ll step outside to make a call. Let me know when you’re done.”
Antony replied, “Got it.”
