“Where?”
“At the Oconnor family mansion.”
Regan’s knife and fork clattered onto the table. She widened her eyes in disbelief. “Where?”
“She looked very angry.”
Regan laughed so hard she could barely breathe, as if she could already picture Charlotte’s expression. She gave Callie a thumbs-up. “That’s so mean.”
Callie laughed along with her. She opened her mouth, about to ask something, when someone suddenly ran in from outside. “Ms. Padilla.”
Regan’s smile faded. “What is it?”
The person handed over a contract. “It’s urgent. You need to sign it.”
Regan flipped through the pages, confirmed there were no issues, and then signed her name.
During this time, Callie watched her closely. This once arrogant and domineering young lady had truly become a top figure who could handle things on her own.
After Regan finished signing, the person added, “Mr. Ellison wants you to come home for dinner tonight.”
Hearing this, she glanced at Callie before hesitantly nodding. “I understand.”
After the person left, Callie didn’t rush to speak. Regan spoke first. “Since learning of the Oconnor family grandfather’s death, Ahmad’s health has been deteriorating, perhaps due to the season.”
Callie nodded, absentmindedly playing with the tassels on her clothes. “When people get old, they tend to value family reunions more.”
Regan’s smile was strained as she nodded.
“I will let you know as soon as I hear any news about Charlotte and Nelson,” Regan quickly added.
Seeing her anxious expression, Callie found it amusing. “I know you’re on my side, but there’s no need to tell me. I’m not choosing Nelson.”
Regan frowned. In her mind, she had always thought Callie and Nelson would be entangled forever.
“Are you choosing Jaquan?” she asked.
“No.” Callie looked out the window at a car parked there. The ostentatious license plate reminded her of someone. After a moment, she turned back to Regan and said, “I’m choosing Jamir.”
Regan’s expression didn’t change as she cooperatively asked why, though her eyes grew colder and harder.
Callie didn’t answer.
She hadn’t been able to reach Jamir for days. His message was that there was some trouble at the Quinn Group that he needed to handle.
Meanwhile, Joaquin had also found out which company Star E-commerce belonged to.
“It’s just a shell company, one layer after another. The company behind it is Scott Group.”
Callie checked the information and only believed it when she saw that Jaquan was the legal representative.
She clicked her tongue. “I didn’t expect that.”
The person providing resources to Lucia turned out to be Jaquan.
Indeed, anyone who opposed Nelson would be taken under Jaquan’s wing. Callie had seen firsthand how close they were.
Jaquan. It all circled back to him again.
“Help me check Jaquan’s recent schedule.”
After a moment, Joaquin replied, “Recently, he’s been visiting Cyrus in the hospital every day.”
“But sis, why are you investigating him? Weren’t we looking into Charlotte?”
Callie snapped back to reality and faced Joaquin’s puzzled expression. She didn’t know how to explain that she was actually looking for Reuben’s whereabouts.
“Well… they’re in the same circle. Isn’t it normal to investigate them all?”
Hearing this, Joaquin felt slightly reassured. “If anything happens, you must tell me. It’s a mixed bag of people here, and I’m worried about your safety.”
Callie’s heart warmed. She patted his head. “I know. Besides, don’t I have you? You’re so clever now and can handle things. I know what to do.”
Only then did Joaquin feel completely at ease.
