Pollux PoV.
“I’m such an idiot!”
How could I even go and leave Godiva to her misfortune? I thought I would relieve my worries by going to the club, as well as a routine visit to work. I was wrong to think that everything would be fine and that Godiva would recover on her own.
It was surprising when Benedetta came to the club and tried to seduce me. If my cell phone hadn’t rung at that moment, I might have lost control of myself again. Alcohol and Benedetta had made me a different person for a while.
On the way to the hospital, I didn’t stop glancing at the clock on my wrist. The urban area was still crowded with people going back and forth in their vehicles, so running would be useless.
“Can’t it go any faster?” I asked Nives, who was pulling the transmission switch.
“The traffic is really heavy, Alpha. The car is stuck in the middle.”
Then I called Godiva, assuming that she might have woken up. I felt relieved when Cian informed me that Godiva and the baby inside her were saved.
I made several calls to Castor but couldn’t get through. I tried to tell him, but he was still outside Burze and wouldn’t be back until midnight. Why didn’t Godiva receive my phone calls?
That question kept swirling around in my head. I remembered when she winced in pain, clutching her stomach. I cursed myself for my actions earlier. I almost made Godiva lose her baby.
We arrived at the hospital about fifteen minutes later. My heart was racing rapidly as I ran to the room where Godiva was being treated. Feelings of joy and regret mixed together; I could hardly tell the difference. I hoped Godiva would forgive me.
I arrived at the room where Godiva was being treated. My breathing was still labored when I only found Cian, who seemed panicked as he spoke on a cell phone. He looked back at me once he realized where I was.
“I’m on the phone with Alpha Castor, but I can’t reach you.”
Ignoring Cian’s question, I glanced around the room and didn’t see Godiva. I smelled Godiva’s scent faintly. I tried to mind link with her, but she blocked me.
“Blaze, can you detect Godiva?”
[She disappeared. My mate disappeared!]
I refocused myself to look at Cian. He explained the state of this room, which had been empty from five minutes ago, through the mind link. Blaze went crazy and growled so loudly that his voice filled my head.
“Order your men in this hospital to search for Luna Godiva. She must not be far.”
In this tense state, my head hurt and my heart felt like it wanted to jump out of my body. I exerted myself to follow Godiva’s scent. Even though it was thin, I could still smell her scent.
This was all my fault. If only I hadn’t left Godiva and if only I hadn’t gotten drunk, I wouldn’t have lost her. It’s not quite a loss yet. I convinced myself that I could still find Godiva.
My mind still remained positive, thinking that Godiva would return to the mansion. She must have gone back there. I didn’t care about my disheveled appearance that invited every human eye I passed in this hospital.
I entered the car and ordered Nives to return to the mansion. Godiva’s scent disappeared when we got out of the hospital. I clenched my fists and growled in the car. The drive seemed twice as long as usual just to get back to the pack house.
When we arrived at the mansion, I could not detect Godiva’s presence. I searched for Godiva in every room of the house, hoping she was just hiding because she wanted to be alone. I had to find her.
“All warriors, gather in the great hall!” I commanded with Alpha order.
Alvise came first. Followed by the five warriors that I knew were guarding the surroundings of the mansion. The remaining ten were from the gardens and the riding field. They all showed alertness before me.
“Is there something important, Alpha Pollux?” Alvise asked with a curious expression.
“Luna Godiva is missing. I couldn’t find her at the hospital. I’m ordering you to search the entire city of Burze for Luna. Report details every hour to me-Alvise, I’m asking you to go with me to the Godiva family home.”
I was on the verge of despair. Knowing that Godiva was alone out there in a state that hadn’t fully recovered and was pregnant, a terrible thought crossed my mind. Why did she disappear like this?
Is she angry with me?
I saw all the warriors disperse to carry out my orders. I was still trying to call Godiva, but still nothing. Even now, I could only think of one last place Godiva might have visited, which was her family home.
“What’s wrong, Pollux?” Alvise asked me once we were in the car.
“Did you know that she left the mansion?”
“Yes, Luigi reported to me that Luna Godiva left with Trisha. Luigi said that Luna Godiva left just to walk around the mansion.”
“Cian told me that Godiva was bleeding. She was pregnant with our child. She went to the hospital, but by the time I got there, she was gone.”
“By the Moon Goddess, what about Castor?”
“He last texted back that he would be home late at night. This is my fault, Al. I was the one who caused Godiva to become like that.”
“What do you mean?”
I told him about our sex this morning. The part where I got really drunk and Benedetta-all I told Alvise. He responded to me with a rough exhale as he shook his head from behind the wheel.
“Alcohol always gets you distracted, and you end up in trouble. Why don’t you ever learn from that, Pol? Any woman would be angry and disappointed with you. Regardless, Luna Godiva must have had a good reason if she could leave suddenly like that.”
I am indeed guilty. Everything Alvise said was true. If Castor knew about this, he would definitely act the same way as Alvise.
My heart was still racing rapidly. I’m lucky I can still feel it. One trigger, even if it is a small thing, will make my heart feel squeezed tightly, and I don’t want it anymore after that night.
“I’m sorry, Godiva.”
We circled Burze until midnight. I asked Alvise to stay with me to look for Godiva. We slowed down as we passed through the city parks, hoping that Godiva was just taking a walk to relieve her fatigue.
As I continued to sharpen my five senses, I detected the scent of Godiva all over the place. For the first time, I felt helpless. Coupled with Blaze breaking down to talk to me, I was even more disoriented.
‘Oh, Moon Goddess, give me a clue to Godiva’s whereabouts. I’ll go crazy if I can’t find her.’
I heard Alvise’s cell phone ring. As soon as she answered the caller, I gasped when she mentioned Castor’s name. Alvise changed the mode to the loudspeaker so I could hear Castor’s words.
My heart was racing. My breath caught in my throat until I couldn’t think anymore. Castor’s voice sounded cold and terrible.
“I thought I could trust you, but I was wrong. You don’t deserve Luna’s love, Pollux.”
