Castor PoV.
I thought that all of this was no mere coincidence. Everything had indeed been determined by fate. Pollux and I were destined to have Godiva as our mate.
During the journey home, I kept looking at the moonstone diadem that I was holding. Every time I moved it, the color of the gemstones changed. I only found out after sending a photo of the diadem to Alvise and forwarding it to Bice.
Bice confirmed that the gemstones in the diadem were moonstones. It matches our pack’s name. Dad had told me that every Alpha who wanted to form a pack would ask the Moon Goddess for guidance on the pack’s name. I was even more convinced of Godiva’s presence in our lives.
“Alpha Castor, your cell phone is ringing.” Pippo called out to me in a loud voice to wake me up.
“Oh, I was daydreaming.”
I picked up the call from mom. According to Pollux’s story, if mom had stopped by the company earlier, I can confirm mom is at the mansion now. I received a call from her.
“Hello, mom.” I changed the call mode to the video.
“Are you still on your way? I was waiting for you at the mansion. Pollux said you were going to Bliegro.”
“I’m on my way home, mom.” I checked our position with Pippo and continued, “I’ll be there in half an hour.”
Mom ended the call first. She still looked fresh and youthful at almost a century old. It was natural for a witch to make her life longer with her powers.
I asked Pippo to stop by the flower shop and intend to give Mom her favorite lily. When I arrived at the mansion, I heard a commotion from the center hall. The sound of mom arguing with Pollux was so shrill. They were always arguing, and it ended up with Pollux being chastised by my mom.
I thought mom was overreactive to Pollux’s insensitive nature. Every time Pollux made a small mistake, mom would become impatient. I was the one who used to mediate their arguments.
“Oh, mom. Why are you always dictating to me?”
“Because you’re still like a child. You’re supposed to treat your wife well, not ignorantly like that!”
“I’m trying, mom. You’re always so grumpy.” Pollux grabbed a handful of his own hair.
I came into the middle of them and immediately interrupted, “How are you, mom?”
“Fine. Ah, Lily, you’re sensitive, Castor.”
I saw Pollux roll his eyeballs and snort softly. I gave the eye movement code to make Pollux leave the center hall. The rest of me would calm mom’s temper.
We ate dinner together in the guest room and spent until ten o’clock at night talking. Whenever mom and Pollux argued, then mom and I would connect to talk about the many things that went on while she was traveling.
She told me about her visit to Struynia, a country where daylight hours are 20 hours longer than the usual 12 hours; mom sent me a picture of herself with a coven of northern witches. I thought mom was enjoying her solitude by traveling the world. I exhaled harshly after hearing mom complain about dad.
“Can’t you guys rekindle your relationship? You still love him, I know that,” I asked carefully so mom wouldn’t take offense.
“I’d rather be hung upside down than have to go back to your father.” He cheated on me, and I never forgive infidelity.”
“But mom, a werewolf has…”
“It doesn’t mean she has to have an affair. That’s why I’m always upset at Pollux, because he’s just like your father. Can never be faithful to one woman.” Mom propped her head up with one hand and her elbow resting on the armrest.
“Suit yourself. The truth is that Pollux and I want the best for you.”
“I know that too. Ah yes, I forgot my daughter-in-law. Can you summon her here?”
“Sure, mom.”
I got up from the chair and left the room. The moment I stepped out of the room, I noticed Godiva, who was on the brink of going into her room. She responded to my call and waited for me to approach her.
“Mom, I wanted to see you. Do you have time?”
“Of course.”
Arriving at the guest room, mom greeted Godiva with a smile. They seemed to be interacting well for a one-day meeting. I guessed that mom must have something important to discuss with Godiva.
I mind-linked with Pollux and asked him to come to the room. As he entered the room, he quickly put on his T-shirt. I immediately asked him to sit on the sofa side by side while I took the position next to mom.
“I got this from the Head Sister of the orphanage.” I held out the blanket and diadem to Godiva.
I noticed the look on Godiva’s face as she scrutinized the two objects. She knitted her eyebrows together and bit her finger as she scrutinized the two objects. Pollux was looking in the same direction.
Is it capable of evoking memories from your past?”
Godiva shook her head vigorously and said, “I have absolutely no clue, but this is as beautiful as if it belonged to a goddess.”
“A goddess would not deliberately give you such a precious object if she did not have a purpose,” Pollux chided.
“What do you mean, Pol?” I asked, to be sure.
“It’s like I said. Like the oyster that holds the pearl, it must have some power. It could be to protect Godiva. We don’t know her biological parents yet, do we? Perhaps they are under threat and do not want Godiva to be targeted.”
Pollux’s words have some truth about the matter. I also agreed with him. If that was true, then Godiva was indeed a special werewolf.
“Instead of guessing, how about I take Godiva back in time? That’s what I’m here for, right?” Mom interrupted our conversation.
Everyone turned to stare at mom. She grinned slightly as if she had planned everything. As a witch, she did have the power to travel through time.
Mom extended her hand to Godiva. Pollux and I trusted Mom’s plan to travel back in time. I convinced Pollux through the mind-link that we both had to trust mom. Traveling to the past requires a lot of energy for those who do it.
“Will I be okay? I’m so scared.”
I moved position and stood next to Godiva. I touched her shoulder and assured Godiva that mom would take care of her. I felt her trembling hands until our eyes met.
I saw the doubtful expression on her face. Not only me, but Pollux also put his arm around Godiva to encourage her. They seemed to be supporting each other.
Before I released Godiva to time travel, I hugged her. I hoped that mom and Godiva could get some clues from the past. I stroked her gray hair, and Pollux tightened our hug even more with his hands.
“See you later, wife.”
I heard a loud groan from Pollux. He rubbed his head after my mom hit him. Pollux grumbled in his heart to me, and I responded with a small snicker.
“Speak well. You brat!”
“That means I’m waiting for her to come back to me. Why are women always so angry and insensitive about us men?”
“‘Come off it.” Godiva doesn’t need to listen to your arguments.” I interceded.
I released Godiva to mom. Godiva clasped mom’s hands together and began to close her eyes. Pollux and I stepped back to give them some space.
I heard mom casting spells in a foreign language that I didn’t understand. I felt the floor in the room tremble, and a whirlpool of wind surrounded them. The sound of howling wind accompanied their departure until they were out of my sight.
“May the Moon Goddess protect Godiva.”
