“You can hold my hand, Luna Godiva.”
I wrapped my hand around Beta Alvise’s. Stepping slowly on the red carpet towards the altar, I kept looking ahead to where Pollux was waiting for me. He looks absolutely stunning, clad in a cream-colored tuxedo matching the color of my wedding dress.
Even though I’m shaking, my feet smoothly waltz towards where Pollux is. I have earphones in my ears that are connected to Castor. He guided me and encouraged me with his soft voice.
I finally stood right in front of Pollux and Bice after Beta Alvise released me. I extended my left hand to Bice, and Pollux extended his right hand to her. We seemed to be making a circle, according to the practice I did yesterday.
“The Moonstone Pack has been blessed by the Moon Goddess. I, Bice di Cenzo, Seer of the Moonstone Pack, ask permission from the perfect Moon Goddess to unite Alpha Pollux Melucci and Alpha Castor Melucci with Luna Godiva Fletcher as the highest mate bond in the Moonstone Pack. You may take the vows as Alpha and Luna together.”
I cleared my throat briefly. With Castor’s voice in my ear and Pollux’s voice, I said the vows, “By the blessing of the Moon Goddess. I, Luna Godiva, take the vow of a lifetime to become the spouse of Alpha Pollux Melucci and Alpha Castor Melucci. I will fulfill the duties and accept the rights as Luna Moonstone pack with all my body and soul, in sickness and in health, with sincerity of my heart.”
As I said the vows, Castor and Pollux said them as well. As soon as the vows were said, I saw a yellow light emerge from our hands. It glowed beautifully in my place and also in one of the cars parked in the distance, where Castor was.
I looked around me and gazed at the faces of the guests. Among them were ordinary human guests. The rest were dominated by werewolves, consisting of pack members and other pack representatives. I understood the reason Castor was not at the altar with us-because of the humans who I thought were Castor and Pollux’s business partners.
I turned my gaze back to Bice, who was reciting the ritual’s closing vows. Afterwards, Pollux and I kissed to close the couple’s validation ritual. I also heard Castor expressing his feelings through the earphones.
“I love you too, Alpha Castor.”
After I responded to Castor’s words, Pollux was already whispering, “You belong to us completely now. Remember, in sickness and in health. Ignore the pain, and I’ll replace it with pleasure. Are we done?”
I always felt a burst of emotion when Pollux spoke to me. So many emotions were created when we were together. I can conclude that Pollux would be an expert mood booster if he wasn’t so annoying.
I responded to Pollux with a brief nod. The rest of the party was filled with fun that I didn’t think was much different from a human having a wedding. In fact, all the omegas seemed to have had their one day of euphoric bliss.
It was only after the humans had gone home that Castor showed himself. He pulled up a stool next to me, flanking me next to Pollux. Castor took one of the glasses of alcohol on the table and sipped it elegantly.
“How are you feeling?” Castor asked as he touched my hand.
“Happy and a little tired. I’m not complaining; I’m just a little tired from perhaps being too dense,” I replied.
“I see. We’re going back now. Come on, Pollux.”
Castor stood up first. He held out his hand to me, and I took it to get up from the stool I was sitting on. Just as I was about to step around the table, I stopped as one of Castor’s men ran up to him with his breath caught in his throat.
For a few minutes, I was silent, looking at them both in turn. To my mind, it looked like they were delving into each other’s minds like psychics usually do with their patients. I frowned, as both of their movements were limited to eye and lip movements.
I felt my hand warm up as Pollux touched my hand. His attitude was more like putting up his body to be a solid fortress in front of me. My attention was distracted when a group of people in long, dark gray coats walked gracefully into the hall.
“Good evening, Alpha Castor and Alpha Pollux of the Moonstone pack. Rulers of Burze for three decades and also leaders of the Blackmoon mafia among humans. I hope our visit does not surprise you as we come in peace.”
Hearing the words of one of the men from the pack, I felt Pollux’s hands tighten to hold my body behind him. I heard a different accent in the way they spoke. With the pale white skin and the cold air that filled the hall, my instinct told me something strange was going on.
Did I hear it wrong? Castor and Pollux are mafia leaders. And who are these people? I tried to stand on my tiptoes to get a better look at their faces.
“Don’t move, Luna!”
Pollux’s voice sounded forceful. I returned to my position and listened silently. In front of us, Castor replied to the people’s words in a cold tone, and it made me quite surprised.
I felt a gust of wind that ruffled my veil. I restyled my hair, which had been disheveled by the wind. I immediately stopped my movement because Pollux was holding my hand.
“What are you doing?” asked Pollux, with a look that was hard to define.
“I was just…”
In the blink of an eye, the man who had been talking to Castor was already in front of Pollux. Gosh, he moved so fast!
I calculated that the distance from the hall to our place was about 20 feet, and he changed position in just one blink of an eye.
“You have a human companion. What a surprise,” he said with his gaze fixed straight on me.
“Has a millennium of life eroded your modesty, Virgil?” said Castor as he turned to face us.
“Forgive me, my lady. I’m Virgil; nice to meet you.”
“That’s enough basics. Tell me what you came to see us for. I don’t think I included the shitty vampire clan’s name in our guest list.”
“Still doing a whole yakking. I’m not surprised that it clouded your deduction. I would like to formally apologize to the Alpha of the Moonstone Pack for the carelessness of one of the Death Sanguine. Do I have to give my blood as validation for that?”
“This will suffice. We’re having an important event, and we don’t want things to turn into a ruckus. I, Alpha Castor Melucci of the Mooonstone Pack, accept the apology of Virgil, the leader of the vampire clan Sanguine Shadows. You can leave freely from our territory, and I will not tolerate a second instance like yesterday.”
“Ah, thank you for accepting the apology. Congratulations on your marriage! I wish the Moonstone pack’s werewolf bloodline continued bliss. We’re leaving.”
I saw the end of the tense scene between them. All the words they said are still ringing in my head. Mafia leader, vampire, Sanguine Shadows clan-what was going on?
I wiped the cold sweat off my hands with a tissue. The cold aura I felt slowly dissipated along with their departure. Without saying much, Pollux had already pulled me to follow him out of the hall.
“What just happened, Alpha Pollux? Tell me, are they really vampires like your brother said?” I asked as I kept pace with Pollux.
“Yes, they are both vampires and our enemies. I will explain once we get home. Stay by my side, Luna Godiva.”
