Karen watched, her heart in her mouth as Kai stood from the bed. He lost his footing, Karne rushed forward to help him but he raised a hand telling her not to
“Let me help you.” She Said softly.
“I’m not an invalid.” He growled in frustration. “I can walk myself ”
He stood up straight, his knees wobbling a bit. Karen sighed. It had been two days since he woke up, and it hadn’t been easy for either of them.
Karen followed beside Kai, watching him in case he didn’t anything. He had a determined look on his face as he took one step after the other.
“Kai you’re not rested enough yet.”
Karen tried to talk some sense into him, any sense at all.
“My pack is under attack” Kai said. “I can’t be in bed and watch them get hurt.”
“You could get hurt. Seriously. You have a gaping wound in your chest!”
“I’m fine.” He growled. But he winced, his hand going up to the bandages on his chest. “I can rest after we havi victory.”
Even in his state Kai still assumed control of the pack. He was the alpha, unquestioned and fearless.
There was going to be an attack in a week’s time. Karen had heard it from Nicolas. And he had also offered to train her. Karen was fine. She knew how to handle herself.
Nicolas, coming from the other end walked up to the duo, stopping in front of Kai.
“You should be in bed Kai.” He said with worry in his eyes.
“Out of my way Nicolas.”
“You’re bleeding again.”
Truly Kai was bleeding. Blood was soaking the bandage fast. Karen sighed softly. Kai had a notorious habit of being stubborn.
“Kai please,” Karen said.
“I have everything under control ” Nicolas said. “I mobilized the warriors and the teams. Everyone is ready should anything happen.”/
“I have to be ready myself.” Kai said. “What good is it if the war meets me in my bed?!”
“Kai please….”
Kai raised a hand, silencing her. “You both should take a rest.” He said and continued Walkinh. He was lie a child learning to walk, one step at a time.
Karen sighed and walked up to him. If he was going to push her away, she wasn’t going anywhere. She would show him who was the boss. Right here now.
Plus she hasn’t told him the good news yet.

The day ended with the healer borderline scolding her alpha.
“You could have been back to coma!” She said, her eyes narrowed. “It’s too early for you to start working out! You have to let your wounds Hela!”
Karen in all truth wanted to smack Kai’s head for what he did. Weight lifting?! He couldn’t even walk properly.
Kai glared at the ceiling, fresh bandaged on his chest that kept soaking up blood. “I’ve heard you.” He said tightly. “I need rest, yes. I got that.”
“Please! We can’t lose our alpha now because of his hard headedd nature!”
Kai turned to the woman. “I’ve heard you.” He repeated, sending a message that he was annoyed already.
The woman sighed she got to her feet and took her medicine bag with her. “Be well.” She said and left.
Karen turned to Kai. He was laying on bed face up, his fists clenched beside him. She gebtly took his fist in her hand.
“Kai,” She said softly.
“Where’s David?”
“He’s with Nicolas. He’s fine okay,” Karen tried to get Kai to talk to her. She grabbed his chin and turned his face to her. She could feel a bit of stubble on his jaw
“You all don’t understand.” Kai said, his eyes staring deep into hers.
“I know.” Karen sighed. “Asher thinks you’re dead. We already have an advantage over him.”
“And we have five days to get ready.”
“We’ll be ready, okay?”Karen smiled warmly at him. “I know you can do it. But You don’t have to do it alone. I’m here with you, okay? ”
He looked into her eyes , then he sighed. “Fine.” He grumbled. “Come here”
She leaned in. He grabbed her neck and kissed her. Karne kissed him back, her palms flat in the mattress to support her weight. She pulled back and looked at him, his hair splayed over the pillows
“Pillow princess,” She said with a giggle.
“Princes?!” He scoffed. “Behave yourself. I am not a pillow princess.”
Karen burst out laughing. “Oh yeah? Who else has been placed on bed rest? Princess?”
He glared at her playfully. “I’ll get you for that. Just wait till I get out of this bed.”
Karne smiled. “I know you will. Till then, you’re my princess.”
He sighed. “Whatever.” He pulled her down to another miss.
Control yourself, Karen told herself.
Kai was still recovering. He was weak at the moment. She had to control her urges.
“I need to tell you something.” Karen whispered against his lip
“What is it?” He asked, his tongue licking her lower lip. She bit it gently.
“I’m pregnant.”
He froze. Karen slowly leaned back, watching his face. “You’re…. pregnant?”
Karen nodded. “I was going to tell you the day you left but….”
Kai tried to stand up.
“Don’t do that.” Karne sighed. “Kai!”
He didn’t listen to her. He sat up, wincing as his chest folded. He leaned his back on the headrest, pulling her to sit in his lap
His eyes were wide with shock. “You’re going to have a baby?”
Karen nodded.
“My second baby?”
She nodded, a grin spreading across her face. Soon his face mirrors her, his smile wide and bright.
“I can’t believe it…” He gasped. “A baby!”
“Yes!” Karne wanted to hug him, but she feared hurting him even more. He cupped her face, his eyes soft with love as he stared at her.
“That is the best thing I’ve heard” he whispered. “And I promise you Karen, this will not be like the last time I woudl let Asher take you away from me.”
Karne leaned in and kissed him. She touched his chin, tilting her head so she could kiss him more. “I only want you to be better.” She whispered. “Asher can burn in hell.”
His hand moved to her waist, grabbing her tightly. “I will protect my family ”
Karne pulled away and looked at him. “I know you will. believe you will”
“We’re coming in!” Nicolas announced from the living room.
Karen got up from Kai’s lap and sat beside the bed. Nicolas walked in, David holding his hand, a bouquet of flowers in his free hand
“Hello mommy, hello daddy ” David said with a smile . He walked up to Karen and gave her flowers. “I picked this out for you. Uncle Nicolas helped me too.”
“Awn, that’s so sweet ” Karen said and accepted the flowers. “Thank you baby, they’re very lovely.”
“No flowers for me?” Kai asked playfully.
“I’ll get you yours ” David replied. “Uncle Nicolas told me that you don’t like flowers.”
Kai glared at Nicolas. “Don’t listen to him..” He said to David. “I like flowers. Very much.”
“I’ll get you a lot of flowers then.” David said. He looked at Kai and his eyes fell. “Daddy, you’re bleeding again.”
“It’s nothing.” Kai said with a dismissive wave. “I’m getting better. Much better. Especially thanks to your mom.”
Karen shook her head. “Indeed.”
Kai patted the spot beside him on the bed. David took his shoes off and joined him, leaning his head on his shoulder
“I’m an uncle now.” Nicolas said, beaming with pride. “Can either of you guess how happy I am right now.”
“No.” Kai snapped “what is the update?”
Nicolas sighed. “Well, everyone is sharpening their claws and teeth. Training as hard as they can.”
“That’s good.” Kai nodded. He turned to David. “Are you training too?”
“Of course.” He laughed. “I can beat uncle Nicolas now!”
Nicolas shook his head. “You’re so powerful now.” He said with amusement. Kai rolled his eyes.
“Three of the alpha kings have agreed to aid our cause.” Kai said. “They’ll be sending their forces to us. With their help, Asher will be down for once and for all.”
“Why not all? Those old men didn’t want to help did they.”
Kai shook his head. “No, it’s much deeper than. That. Either way, when Asher does show up here, we all will be ready for him.” He looked at Karen and she smiled.
“Wait, what’s going on?” Nicolas questioned, his brow raised.
“You’re going to an uncle. Again.” Kai said.
“I’m having a sister?!” David gasped, lifting his head from Kai’s shoulder.
“Yes, that’s correct” Kai replied.
“Is that so?” Nicolas said and laughed. “Well, you’re also going to be an uncle.”
“Verena is pregnant?”
“Yes.”
Karen gasped. “Oh my, that’s wonderful news!” She turned to Kai. “You’re gonna be an uncle!”
Kai rolled his eyes, but he was smiling. “Yeah right.” He turned to Nicolas. “I’m happy for you, Nick. Congratulations.”
“And to you two.” Nicolas bowed. “Our darling alpha and his beautiful Luna.”

Karen froze. She was the Luna. Kai’s Luna.
Kai looked at her, his gaze gentle. “My Luna.” He said, his eyes gentle. He touched her face, his hand moving to her neck where his mark should be. “You are my Luna.”
“My alpha” she said with a bow of her head. “At your service.” The last part she whispered so only he could hear. Their little inside joke.
Kai rolled his eyes. He turned to Nicolas. “Once this is all over, there will be a celebration!”
“I love partied ” Nicolas replied. “But first, let’s make it alive this week. And then we can throw all the parties we want to throw.”
Kai’s face became grave. “That’s true. We can….”
A thunderous knock sounded on the door. “My alpha!” A warrior shouted. “We are under attack! Asher is here!”
“What?!” Kai growled his eyes flashing red.
“Karne, we have to go.” Nicolas said, urgency in his voice. “Kai, you need to stay back and…”
