“Okay, hold up.” Karen said. “What is going on here?”
Kai glared at her so coldly that she felt her blood freeze. “You know exactly what I’m talking about!”
“Well I would if you would just talk to me and stop being so damn passive agressive!”
“Mommy what’s passive agressive?” David asked sweetly.
“Not now baby ” Karen replied. She wasn’t about to have this conversation with her child in the room. “Baby, how about you go outside and okay okay? Mommy has something to discuss with this man.”
“Okay he said with a smile. “I’ll come and find you later and…”
“Not so fast.” Kai growled. He grabbed the boy by the scruff of his neck and held him up.
“Kai,” Karen said with worry. She got out of bed and tried to get closer to him
“Stay right there.” Kai hissed at her. He brought the boy up and stared at him. To his greatest surprise, the boy was calm, his blue eyes staring deep into Kai’s.
“Hi,” He said with a smile and a small wave. “I’m David, what’s your name?”
That ‘Hi’, Kai had heard it somewhere before. That same tone. But he couldn’t place where he had heard the voice.
“You keep quiet, I have a talk with your mother.” Kai hissed, hoping to intimidate him.
“Okay.” The boy said with a bright smile. “I’ll wait till you guys are done. Then you can tell me your name. Is that okay, mommy?”
“Put him down, please.” Karen said, her eyes pleading.
“You must have thought I’d forgotten our condition right?”
“Yes. In all honesty I had hoped you would forget.” She glanced at David, he had a smile on his face as he watched Kai. Fascination and awe shining in his eyes. Karen sighed.
It was like the boy knew Kai was his father. And he was just so comfortable in Kai’s hold.
“Are you that ashamed of his father?” Kai scoffed with a laugh. “Come on, if you wanted to f…”
“Language.” Karen hissed. “Not in front of a child Kai! Have some manners!”
Kai sighed. “Close your ears kid.”
“Why?”
“So you don’t hear the things I’m about to say next ”
The boy shrugged. “Okay!” He clamped his hands tightly over his ears. Karen sighed, rubbing her temples.
“Who is the boy’s father, it’s time to fulfill your end of the deal.”
Karen thought about it. It would cost her nothing, absolutely nothing to tell Kai he was the father.
But so much was going on right now. A war was brewing. Kai was agitated. And he was taking it out on her.
“Don’t talk to me like that.” Karen said, trying to stall for time. “I didn’t do anything to make you angry. Zorn transfer your aggression to me!”
Kai grit his teeth, his eyes flashing red. “Karen, so help you I’d you don’t cooperate right now!”
“What will the knowledge of his father do for you?!” She shouted at him. “I have a child. So what?! What does sit matter to you! You don’t live me, you never have and you never will! Why don’t you stop trying to control my life and let me raise my son in peace?!”
“Is that how you want to play?” He asked, a dangerous light coming to his eyes.
Karen didn’t like the aura shift in the room.
“Put my son down.”
“How about I throw him back into the dungeons, continue form where Asher stopped?” Kai raised the boy up and looked at him. “Yeah, how does that sound?”
Karens eyes wine wide with panic. “No. Kai you wouldn’t.”
“Do you want to test me?” He grabbed the boy at the back of his neck, suspending him mid air. “I should I destroy the last memoir of that bastard who dared touch you?”
“No!” Karen screamed and dropped to her feet. Hot tears gathered in her eyes and spilled down her cheeks.
Kai was serious.
He would kill David. Karen knew it. He wasn’t bluffing.
“If you touch him I’ll kill myself!” She cried out. She grabbed the closest thing to her which was pen and pointed it at her throat. “One stab of this, and I won’t be able to heal. Don’t touch him…. Kai I’m begging you! ”
Kai’s expression changed. “Karen, don’t play games with me.”
“Why is mommy crying?” David asked, lowering his hands from his ears.
“Cover your eyes and cover your ears. ” Kai said to him
“No!” The boy exclaimed. “Put me down! You made mommy cry! Put me down now!”
“Like I would.” Kai sighed. “I guess the apple doesn’t fall far form the tree does it?”
“Put me down this instant!” The boy growled and turned to Kai. For a milisecond, Kai saw his eyes flash red. And he felt the aura of an alpha in the room. An alpha that wasn’t him.
Imposing
“Give me back my son!” Karen Sobbed. “Please!”
“This is exhausting.” Kai sighed. “Stay still,” He used his alpha command on the boy. His eyes flashed with fear and he whimpered. “Close your eyes and cover your ears.”
The boy obeyed, his hands shaking.
Kai sighed and faced Karen. “Who is his father?”
“I can’t …”
“You can’t or you won’t?”
“You’ll take him away from me.” She whispered to herself. She lowered the pen, dropping it to the ground. “I can’t let you do that…”
“I’ll be doing a lot more than taking him away from you if you don’t open your mouth and speak.”
Karen grabbed her heart and cried. She couldn’t stand it. She couldn’t stand her son being taken away from her. It was something Kai would do. She knew it.
“You are mine Karen,” Kai said “you had no right to let another man touch you, talk less of getting pregnant for him!”
“I wasn’t…”
“You weren’t what?! Do you have any idea the pain I went through looking for you?! Believing that I had lost my child?! And it turns out that he’s not even mine?!”
“I’m sorry!”
“Sorry doesn’t cut it Karen! Sorry doesn’t do anything! Who is he?!”
“You’ll take him away ….”
Kai sighed, getting frustrated with her. “I swear to the goddess Karen, you’re walking on my last existing nerve right now. If you know what’s good for you, answer.”
Karen raised her head and met his eyes. She got to her feet and dusted her clothes off.
Enough of this nonsense.
She decided she was done running. She was done hiding. She reminded herself that she was an alpha herself. And David was her son.
She would protect him with her last breath.
“You want to know who his father . is huh?”
“Yes. You’re finally paying attention now huh?”
“You’re his father.”
Kai froze. His eyes widened a fraction. Karen stared at him, watching every minute change in his reactions.
“That’s impossible.” Kai hissed. “You’re lying to me. Karne drop the damn jokes and answer me!”
“He’s yours, Kai. He’s your son. He’s your heir. Whatever you chose to call it.”
He shook his head.
Karen scoffed. “I was going to tell you you know. I was going to. But I was so dam scared. For all I knew you could kill me, because how could the daughter of your enemy bear you a son?”
“And you kept quiet?”
“I wasn’t going to forever. But then you ordered me to be executed didn’t you?”
His eyes hardened. “you are a liar Karen. And I had really hoped I wouldn’t come to this ”
“What lie?” She asked and spread her arms. “I’m telling you the truth. Nothing more.”
“I don’t have a son.” He spat. “And especially not one from you.” He tossed David at her. Karne caught him in her arms. He still had his eyes and ears closed.
Kai’s words hurt her a lot than she imagined it would.
“Actually, you do have a son.” A voice said from the doorway and Nicolas walked into the room.
“This doesn’t concern you.” Kai said to his beta. “Mind your own business.”
“Your business is mine too ” Nicolas replied. “Hello Karen.” He said to Karen. She nodded at him.
“I had been suspicious for a while, maybe you’re blind Kai but that boy looks like you.” Nicolas said with a soft sigh. “So I did some research myself. And here are the results.”
He handed Kai an envelope.
“You did DNA tests?” Karen asked, not knowing it to be happy or angry. How had he done that and she didn’t know?
Nicolas turned to her with a smile. “Yes. I had to .”
Karen noticed he looked happier, his cheeks had more color. It must have something to do with Verena waking up earlier.
Kai went through the papers as he read the lines, his eyes filled with shock.
“And also,” Nicolas said. “The voice in our link was David establishing a link inside a link, something only an alpha can do. What more proof do you need that he’s your son?”
